What’s up, I’ve been airbrushing for 30 years and I saw one of these and I had to pick one up. When I first tried it, it was sputtering and spitting until I found the secret. The needle and nozzle it comes with is too thin to spray with. So I got a 0.5 needle and nozzle, after that it works like butter. BIG difference. It will never replace my Iwatas or my compressor but it’s good to do quick sketches and to take on the go. Good video by the way.👍🏽
This is a cool video. I’m a miniature painter. So it is really interesting to see what other people use airbrushes for, and the tolerances they expect to be normal for airbrush usage. It would NEVER have occurred to me to try and use one of these portable brushes to paint a pair of sneakers. I mean, come on! It’s running at about 18PSI max. But for painting minis, at close to midnight, when you’re able to grab two hours of hobby time, while everyone else is asleep.... these devices are so quiet, so unobtrusive that family might believe that you’re actually doing something productive - like a bit of banking or investing. Honestly, this gear is far from perfect, but it has it’s place. It’s weak, but quiet, so you can be super sneaky and get stuff done and no-one is the wiser.
This airbrush isn't designed to cover massive areas. It is built to be an affordable option for those that airbrush fingernails, mini's, and small items. Additionally they don't have the same size needle. There is a huge difference between an airbrush with a .5 needle which the badger has, and a .3 needle. Of course there will be less volume of painted sprayed when the needle is smaller. In this case you would be getting about 1/3 the volume, which I think is reflected in your testing.
I started with this cordless airbrush version. It was painful to work with it. The nozzle broke off (when I tried to switch it carfefully), after 5 weeks and the compressor died in week 7. It took ages to clean the airbrush. It took years to build up layers, no matter how thin the paint was. Imagine working with a clogged airbrush, because that is how it felt all the time. If you buy cheap, you will buy twice! My Harder & Steenbeck Evolution really showed me, what airbrushing should be like lol.
Usual customers: "Let's try it out on paper sheets on any kind first" Dillon: " well Let's try directly on sneakers " No fear for the kind of customs ahah
I actually bought one of these to use on my very first pair of customs I finished last week! I've never used an airbrush before yet I could tell the airflow and adjustment weren't right - but I was still able to get my gradient done decently! This video has just encouraged me to consider going for the real thing tho...

I decided to see if it's just me or is it the product and your video convinced me it's the product. I'm going to return mine and stick with my badger.

I feel like you just saved me at least two days of time and headaches. Thanks! 🎉

As an Airbrush newb, the self contained airbrush system you've being demonstrating has me now wondering if setting aside rattle cans that have served me well over the years in painting models in favour of this type of thing that requires a fair bit of learning to master has been such a crash hot idea. I'll see how it goes, but I've a feeling that if current practice is serving you well, why change for a journey into the unknown? The immediate advantage to me is that using an airbrush allows for almost endless colour variations. No bad thing as it happens but, necessary, or ideal, even, who knows? The attraction here of course was the self contained powering of the airbrush and so avoiding the purchasing of an air compressor. The airbrush and its can of electrical energy will arrive here sometime next week, I bought local rather than from overseas. This allows for less troubles if something goes wrong and the tool needs to be returned for repair or replacement. I'm not so sure that this self contained airbrush is actually not much more than a gimmick, but time will tell. Model building teaches patience, so this may need to be drawn upon before two moons have come and gone.
Old post, but what kind of models do you build? I do mostly military, but have had a hankering to build some cars and trucks, maybe vehicles I've actually owned, plus some fantasy vehicles (Ferrari, Lotus, etc). I've owned 4x4's, a '68 El Camino, SPL311, MG's, etc. I think I'll get one of these for interiors, cockpits, etc. The spray cans obviously don't allow good control of the paint application, especially thickness which can kill details, like panel lines, door jams, and such.
Woke up thinking on a portable compressor, I still think I like that little underpowered thing! I think it could work well connected to a micron. Great review man
Im ab beginner with airbrushing and I have that exact same one I really don't have very many complaints except for the battery life. I personally feel that the battery doesn't last long enough when you're in the middle of a project you have to wait for it to fully charge in order to complete. Just off of doing one pair of Retro 13s it took me two days to finish both boat shoes
Haha yes that would definitely interfere over time especially if you're on a deadline. It also starts to become quite heavy after holding for an extended period, just the ergonomics of it.
Your exactly right on that. But hey man, I want to thank you for the making and uploading these videos, I've spent hours watching you create these masterpieces day in and out. It's almost in comparents to sitting in front of the TV as a teenager watching every episode of Dragon Ball Z lol I don't miss a video. You do amazing work boss.
Got this as a gift recently from my girlfriend. First time using an airbrush and have gotten some Mr.hobby metallics to spray, but can't get anything else to spray no matter how much thinner I add. I am spraying using acrylics and have tried several paints from Mr.Hobby Aqueous, Tamiya metallics, and citadel base colors. The airbrush sprays thinner and water just fine, as well as airbrush cleaner. But I am wondering how I can get some colors to spray. If anyone has any tips please let me know.
Just an idea, but if it sprays water and thinner fine, have you tried making the paint mix as equally thin …or as close to the viscosity as water/thinner? Then when spraying maybe heat up the surface with a blow dryer or something and then paint the layers on in thin mist layers?
Actually the only thing you are complaining about is the pressure of the airbrush, which is around 15-20 PSI. To scale modelers, this kind of air pressure is preferable to do basic works, with small coverage. For shoes I think it must be around 30 PSI to cover up such large surface.
Actually I'll try this portable air brush until I get electricity where I lives, that will work until I can step up my game, you understand, but I'll also try and get better soon as possible... You're the best 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯...
I have this same one but a different “brand”. I’m a first time air brusher but the compressor in this kit already seems to not be running at full capacity. The first two times I used it, it was fine. Last night, I made sure it had a full charge and put some water to make sure it would function. It did. I put some primer in (for miniatures) and thinned it with some water. Seemed decent and it was more the first two times I used the brush. I did quick trigger pulls, about 1-2 seconds each. I don’t even get done with the first model, the paints not coming out very well and the compressor is not as loud or vibrating as hard in my hand. The kit only came with a .3 mm needle/cone/tip so I had to make do. I’m looking at getting a different slightly more expensive one with a compressor with wall socket cable. Hopefully the airbrush is somewhat decent. Does have multiple needles as well. I WOULD NOT recommend this airbrush kit
Also what should I do to really get started? I bought a AF1 but I’m afraid to start it. Should I practice on paper or knock of AF1’s until I get a nice idea of the airbrush I’m using.
You can definitely get started practicing on paper, cardboard, anything like that just get a feel for your airbrush. What we use to make the smooth gradient is called the middle bar technique where you take an even mixture of both of your colors and spray that where they meet.. In a way its like creating a 3rd color and adding that in, but what you do after is take both of the original colors and blend those back on top of the new middle bar color you created. We give a breakdown in this video here (th-cam.com/video/SKubheHrF5k/w-d-xo.html)
Interesting video..thks. You can see the difference in the two guns spray pattern...maybe the cheap one has a number two needle .very small. where your pro one has a 3 0r 5 needle. something you didn't mention at all. can you even change the needle in the cheap gun ?
Hey dejesus I asked you about a week ago if you would consider using solarcolor dust. You said you just need to find the right project. What about color changing floral? That's a project I'm gonna try to do I'd love to see your take on that.
Can you push the power button to make it go up in how fast the air comes out? My air pump has that option i pushed the power button 3 times before turning it off.
Thanks bud, I dont recommend them for anything truthfully. But if there ever was a time it would be for tiny small details like outlines or something similar
Because the rear screw is for liking the trigger to how far you want it to pull back to! Best to just keep it out our more expensive ones are push and release locks in the screw for modeller's this thing just no! It's hard enough using mine with a tiny secondary water trap attached direct to the airbrush! The single compressors you get are better for starting up with but it will stop working within a year to 2 years all 3 of mine did I ended up paying out for a big double tanked 620H sparmax compressor never had an issue and don't get a single bit of water through the airbrush like the single small compressors with the heat ut produces and condensation builds up in the piston as no airtank for it to escape to!
Hi DeJesus, I'm hoping to airbrush my Padel Tennis racket, which Portable Airbrush Spray USB Compressor do you recommend? Also, do you have a preferred paint? Thanks
I don’t recommend any of the portable airbrushes unfortuantely. If you watch this video when I compare it to the badger patriot 105, there’s not much comparison. I would use angelus paints
I've had about 3 Paasche sets in 20 years, kept loosing pcs down the drain or pushing the needle too hard I break the nozzle tip haha! The portable compressor is cheap and can be used while charging! Even though the nozzle can't be removed it is a stronger type of metal! A needle cannot be pushed through! Been using it for stencils mainly and it's done good so far, been using it about a year! It's cheaper to replace for someone who only needs to do small fades on panels, I think the lower psi helps because you have to work it in more!
It’s crazy I’m going through an airbrush situation currently and your video popped up. I almost purchased this one lol I’m a beginner starting on a budget. Thank you for your videos! Also, where can I purchase bulks of Laces in variety colors

You should do cheapest vs expensive airbrush. I use a $15 airbrush and it’s kinda more maintenance to keep clean and unclogged but other then that it works really well for me
This item does seem like it has potential but I guess the technology just isn't quite there yet I mean it is convenient to be able to have one of these on your travels instead of having these huge compressors to take everywhere you go but until they can rival the compressors then they need to get back on the drawing board and figure that part out otherwise I don't see any use for it at this point at least for this brand that you bought maybe the quality ones might have actually giving you the same or a rivals that of a compressor.
Is it the airbrush or the compressor that's the problem? Could you have put your Badger on the portable compressor for better results? Is the compressor even compatible with other fittings or is it a proprietary thread? Could you add an airhose to make the ergonomics more familiar? How does it handle acrylic/alcohol inks? Are you thinking of doing a followup video?
I think the comrpessor really just crank out enough psi. The fittings on both the airbrush and compressor seem to be a bit different than anything ive seen around but I am pretty curious to test if I can get the proper fittings to test some different things.
I think this would work for someone like me who lives in an apartment and have no electricity in my garage... I make fishing lures and plan on custom painting some
Hello! Did you buy this cordless airbrush system, and if you did, can it do a decent job for painting lures? Because that is the same reason why I was looking at this airbrush.

Dude I love these videos! I have been wanting to ask for a while now, do you order shoes as orders come in or do you order a bulk amount of shoes and push them out? Thanks so much for all the guidance!
For my personal this seems interesting for 2 mains reasons above the price, first I do not have space for a proper airbrushing set up, living in a 40sqm with my gf, and second It seems to be very useful for covering mesh fabric especially, even if the air flow is not that big it would be good enough to get a better finish than using paint brush ?!
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear a little question Dillon, I've seen some airbrushes with mini compressors, with 25psi for the compressor and a 0.5mm nozzle for the airbrush, the one you review has a 3mm nozzle which brings to maybe too diluted paint to avoid clogging, do you think it would change something 0.5mm nozzle? I've read that 0.5 is more recommended for acrylic paint
Well i tried to read at least 20 comments below, but my tickling ulcers are coming back. Folks are sho' funny. One question was, I wondered if we could operate the cordless compressor all day long with the USB Cable attached to a Wall "Brick"? When I'm doodling in my sketchbooks, many times I like to add a hint of color, with Watercolors, to suggest a mood or Costume Idea. Pretty sure I can push that thinner paint thru this cool portable Air Gun.

Gonna atleast look into the badger patriot more than likely it will be what I get, if not I'll buy 12 of the generic quality ones first so might as well jump in feet first haha
Hey bro! I need your opinion. Does a compressor without an air canister have constant pressure and air flow? Supposedly, the container provides this. I'm going to buy my first compressor (I already have an FA-186AK airbrush), and I'm not sure if I need a canister for compressed air.
Hey DeJesus, I have been doing customs for a little over a week now and my customs are coming out great! one problem I have though, is that when I put my Satin Acrylic Finisher on it seems to make my paint that I am applying the finisher to start to come of and kind of leak off onto my white areas, and I don't apply the finisher with a brush, I use the air brush for everything. Tell me what I'm doing wrong! Please help!
Very odd, is the paint Forsure dry before applying the finisher? Otherwise it just sorta sounds like the paint might not be bonding properly so it could need some more prep work
So I am customizing shoes and when I paint the bottom and put a sealer I don't remember what brand it comes can you tell me the steps to painting shoe and for the paint not to chip
Ok well here's a question, I don't want to customize my nikes n jordans, but I'd like to be able to tape them off and repaint the white plastic mesh on the white tech 4s, everything's pristine white except some of the netting and I can't do that. So would this be sufficient for simple stuff as such. Get at me. Personally I was looking at the airbrush from, No Name brand. actually what it's called, seems to have decent reviews

the shirt he is wearing at the beginning of the video would make a clean custom also is it worth paying the 300$ on angelus
It would! Make sure you use our discount code to help you save a bit (dejesus321) but sounds like you bout to go crazy!
Crazy, I was just looking for a video like this yesterday lol
Haha great timing! Thanks for watching.
Hi im new to customize and would like to know what are the different types of paint that can be used to customize shoes other than angelus
Well... If its a shoe... Then u need more powerful spray.....
That cordless spray migh suitable for Warhammer thingy....
Would this be good to buy as a portable airbrush when you’re working in an outdoor space?
I just don’t think it’s powerful enough to actually have a good time using!
Can you push the power button to make it go up in how fast the air comes out? My air pump has that option i pushed the power button 3 times before turning it off.
Not on this one unfortunately
Bro your vids and your replies has help me a lot 👌🏽 I appreciate every moment you upload a vid 🙏🏼 I have a question are posca pens good to use?
Thanks bud, I dont recommend them for anything truthfully. But if there ever was a time it would be for tiny small details like outlines or something similar
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear thank you so much for the reply 🙏🏼
This really helped thanks! But can you use it while it is charging?
Hey I just got the badger 105 and I have a air compressor that like hold 125 psi it will work the same as long as I adjust the psi
Yes it will
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear thanks your the best
Wow haven’t been here in a minute but I know I’m getting the best review for sneakers customizations
could you use an oil based polyurethane with this product?
I think it lacks the power ..
Nice!
Just got one off ebay for $17. Trying to spray thinned resolene. hard to tell how much is coming out with that sealant.
What about painting very small things like Hotwheels?
I would say depends what type of paints you’re using, if they’re super thing maybe.. but overall there’s a still a lack of pressure issue
So they no good then basically? For say acrylic primer spraying
It’s crazy I’m going through an airbrush situation currently and your video popped up. I almost purchased this one lol I’m a beginner starting on a budget. Thank you for your videos! Also, where can I purchase bulks of Laces in variety colors
Check our @goglace and @lacelab!
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear you are awesome! I’m literally starting my shoe biz off your videos. Do you think FIT Sneaker Essentials online program is something that could help a starter like myself? If you ever offered something like that, that would be dope! Thanks for all you do, it’s appreciated and very helpful.
@@MarleyMarBih I’ve heard good things about it!
Did u get a good airbrush I am also starting customs
could i use something like this for restorations
Overall I can’t honestly recommend it
You should do cheapest vs expensive airbrush. I use a $15 airbrush and it’s kinda more maintenance to keep clean and unclogged but other then that it works really well for me
Yes I think that would make for a great comparison video. Which one are you using?
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear “Dual Action Gravity Feed 0.3mm Gun Spray Airbrush Nail Art Paint Tattoo Tool Set” I get them from eBay
@@KickzzrusKustoms what compressor do you use?
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear Airbrush Depot TC-20. I got it about 3-4 years ago
@@KickzzrusKustoms nice dude! I think a $15/20 airbrush vs maybe 200/300 would be a super cool video ! Thanks for the suggestion
Agree! If it this worked as well as intended it would be great for travel!
How about the WORX MakerX 20v airbrush?🤔🤔🤔
wonder if you can use your own airbrushes with the correct adaptor to the aircan
Yes I belive so
That's for light makeup or cake decorating
I bought the worx and hooked to small compressor can't get everything dialed in
Sorry, this may be a really dumb question, but can you customize fake leather shoes?
Yeah of course, there’s just a lot of disadvantages to it.. the material won’t react the same as regular leather when it comes to prepping or painting
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear I'm actually shocked at the fast reply :D. Thanks!
It is good for doing stencil art and temp tattoos too.
Can you change the top part to a better one think that will improve it
Hi. What paint should you use when making use of a airbrush?
Really depends what you’re painting. If you’re reffering to what I use on shoes, that would be Angelus paints!
Can i use it as a fine soda blaster?
You probably have to adjust the back piece so the spray can come out better
Where to get new nozzles and caps.
Not sure on that one unfortunately
Is it the airbrush or the compressor that's the problem? Could you have put your Badger on the portable compressor for better results? Is the compressor even compatible with other fittings or is it a proprietary thread? Could you add an airhose to make the ergonomics more familiar? How does it handle acrylic/alcohol inks?
Are you thinking of doing a followup video?
I think the comrpessor really just crank out enough psi. The fittings on both the airbrush and compressor seem to be a bit different than anything ive seen around but I am pretty curious to test if I can get the proper fittings to test some different things.
How you manage clogs in that?
Would not be fun figuring it out lol. I haven’t used it at all since the comparison
Hey Dcf you should try and take that Compressor of and try to use a normal compressor just to see how that performance
That would make for a great comparison! It seems like I would need some type of unique adapter but I may look into that more
I think this would work for someone like me who lives in an apartment and have no electricity in my garage... I make fishing lures and plan on custom painting some
Hello! Did you buy this cordless airbrush system, and if you did, can it do a decent job for painting lures? Because that is the same reason why I was looking at this airbrush.
Is the Master Airbrush Cool Runner ll any good for painting shoes?
How bought and price
would this be good for small projects on sneakers like minor colour panel changes?
I still just think it doesn’t have enough power overall especially considering it’s not a tenth of the price of a good setup
Can anyone help with a recommendation? I want to get a airbrush setup but no clue where to start..
I’d go with the badger patriot 105!
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear thank you so much for taking the time to help me out your the goat....
Planning to get this for minor paint chip repairs on guitars. Would anyone recommend it?
Do you think the air brush that the harbor freight compresser kit comes with would be a good air brush to start off with?
Oh no it’s super cheaply made
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear damn man I was looking into the harbor freight compressor by its self but its not available to ship only the kit is and I don't think its worth paying almost a extra $50 for the air brush if its cheap

Do you ask for a payment upfront before you even start painting the shoes ?
Yes I do!
Was that cordless a Kibee?
I bought one of these and i love it!
Hey can u do wayyyy more of videos like can you paint a jordan 1 with me please I really enjoy them
Glad you liked it! Deifnitly plan to do more
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear yes thank you i can watch them all lol
Good Video! How do you clean the Cordless Airbrush?
Thanks! I just cleaned it the same way I did a standard one. Ran cleaner through it, spray excess in a cleaning pot, leave cleaner between sessions
Dude I love these videos! I have been wanting to ask for a while now, do you order shoes as orders come in or do you order a bulk amount of shoes and push them out? Thanks so much for all the guidance!
I order as they come in, theres too many sizes to keep in stock usually.
Yeah these videos are the best! Testing multiple items is time consuming and not everyone wants to go through the hassle.
Thank you for sharing this
great stuff man! I was about buying this, but glad i didn't
Glad I could help!
Yeah any airbrush application will beat paintbrush when it comes to fabrics so you can avoid those clumps and filling in the holes
Thanks for posting. Maybe someday they will build a good one.
I just started customizing shoes and a bought an airbrush and after the first use when i pull the trigger just for air it comes paint out too what should i do to fix it?
Sounds like your needle isnt pushed all the way forward and locked in.
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear thank you i will check it out
Thanks, your Great!

Any air brush recommendation for beginners?
Badger patriot 105, we show it off in the video!
Oh man don't know how I missed that🤦♀️, thank you
I bought this exact airbrush when I was first starting off and it stopped working on the second day...
Lol I believe it
i actually almost bought a cordless airbrush when i wanted to start airbrushing thank god i didn't!!
Yes I think youll have a better experience long term starting off with something better.
I gotta be honest I don’t know man. Go with the harbor freight airbrush compressor and you’ll never have any issues lol
Where can I get it
How do you thin out the paint
Angelus makes a product called 2thin
This thing is meant 100% for make-up. You could use it for fine detail work and shadows, but thats about it.
Yup i can totally see it being useful in that field!
I was seriously considering this airbrush as I am disabled and cant afford much. This gaave me pause for thought. I appreciate you making this review!
also.. totally adorable =P
Have an excellent day my dudes
Thanks for watching!
