I created a StoryGraph reading challenge for this. Of course with all the credits to you and the link to this video. I hope that's okay. And I hope all the users of the app who are following your channel are going to join!
@@onourpath I can try, but usually TH-cam deletes comments with links in it. I'll put it into the next comment. Please let me know, if you can't see it.
Thanks, Scott!🌷Loved the intro by the way 😍I’m in! I’ve had The Yield unread on my bookshelves for a while now, and that would cover prompts 1 and 2, and perhaps even 6, since it would be my second Australian novel this year, after Restless Dolly Maunder😊
I really enjoyed Restless Dolly Maunder. I think I may be of the minority, but I thought it was a touching book and meant more knowing it was about the author’s family.
@@Book_Hugger Hi! I liked it and found it very interesting too. However, I think it would have deserved going into some more depth. I couldn’t get a real sense of place. Even I started getting… restless rushing from one place to the next with Dolly!😅
Yes! I really enjoyed Straya September last year! I look forward to expanding my knowledge of Strayan books further this year! Looking forward to the readathon shenanigans.
Started early. Just finished Limberlost by Arnott. My third Arnott--love his writing so much. There are so many Aussie books I want to get to, wish they were easier to find in the U.S. Hope you will do a big TBR for this read-a-thon.
Has there ever been a petition to officially change the name of Australia to Straya? Seems like something that should be on the to-do list along with a new monarchy referendum.
I'm not sure how her name is pronounced, and I do suffer from dyslexia, so I might have missed the I when I first read her name and just pronounced it wrong ever since, so I would suggestion you are correct not me - but however you say it, I really like her work. I'll be reading her new book Dirrayawadha when my library hold comes in sometime later this month. :)
I once sailed through the Torres Strait on my way to Cairns or maybe Brisbane from Darwin. One of the very most beautiful places… so… Torres Strait authors?
There's not many, because they're not a large population, but Jillian Boyd. Hopefully somebody in the comments will know more and let us know here please.
It's a shame that the new Tim Winton isn't out until October. I read Praiseworthy and Edenglassie this year which I'd wholeheartedly recommend for the 2nd prompt.
This may be a terrible faux pas, but I love the weird vibe of films by Aussie director, Peter Weir. I tracked down book versions of Careful He Might Hear You and Picnic at Hanging Rock, but never did find any others. Any recs for books with Weir-like Aussiness?

I couldn't find it on storygraph -- can you add a link here?

Obviously it was deleted as expected. Just search for Straya Readathon 2024 on StoryGraph.

@@ameliareads589 looks like it's been deleted. What's the exact title of the challenge? Maybe I can find it that way.
What a fun intro for the Straya September 2 readathon. 😁
Chai Time at Cinnamon Gardens is going on my TBR! A significant young adult read that my students have enjoyed is "Rabbit Proof Fence" 🙂
Really enjoyed this last year and read some great stuff. Looking forward to this year’s event 😊
That opening intro is GOLD! Gold Gold Gold for Straya!
I'm so glad somebody appreciated it.
Scott has me wondering if that is by a famous poet and he just tweaked a couple lines... 🤭
@@MargaretPinard It's an iconic beer ad! Somewhat poetic in a Strayan way...
Delighted this is back! I’m defo using this as the nudge I needed to tackle Praiseworthy
Yayyy! Great start to a readathon, Scott! I'm sure I've got some Oz on my shelf...
Stone Yard Devotional for me. Going to start it on the 2nd. 2 prompts done for me 😃 love your sense of humour 😂
Great prompts! I’m looking forward to participating. First up is a memoir that I have had on my shelf since 2021: The Asparagus Wars by Carol Major.
Thank you for that ad link--wow. Gold.
Love the VB ad music 😂
A Hard Earned Thirst Needs a Good Long Book.... might have to go backlist here... or reread Praiseworthy..... sounds like fun...

The parody intro is a riot!
Ooh! Can’t wait!
Great intro - what a blast from the past - shame there's no beer in the house!

I was going to do a TBR and a bunch of Aussie recommendations, but my computer had other ideas I'm sorry.
Yeah for Straya September. Great prompts Scott. ❤
Thank you. 😊
I'm in!
That opening
😁
GIRT! Now that book makes more sense as a joke, LOL
Matter of fact I've got it now. Count me in. I'm looking forward to the new Ella Baxter, Evie Wyld and want to get hold of Anam by Andre Dao.
My library just got a copy of woo woo, it's on my tbr too.
OZZIE BOOKS!!!
Has there ever been a petition to officially change the name of Australia to Straya? Seems like something that should be on the to-do list along with a new monarchy referendum.
No, but there is a petition to change our national day to May 8th, or as any Aussie would say Mate!
I just finished Dirrayawadha! Anita Heiss! Opinion? She seems pretty talented.
Wait, is it said 'hess' rather than mice-heiss? my author got a mention, yay!

Excellent options for the deadly prompt.
Are you able to please give us a list of Australian authors. I keep finding more and more and I wonder how many I’ve missed

I’ve now got so many Australian books, I could keep reading them for about 6 months lol

I'm sorry I'm slow to reply to this, but I'm unfamiliar with Peter Weir.
@@GunpowderFictionPlot oh, no worries -- I think I have a couple Aussie books I can read.
