  • Everybody in the airgun world wants to go to one of the big competitions. The Rocky Mountain Airgun Challenge - RMAC - in Utah, Extreme BenchRest - EBR - in Arizona or the Pyramyd Air Cup in Ohio...but the cost.
    It's not just the entry fees but the travel and lodging and meals. Registration can be a chore too. You can do all the planning and not get a spot!?! RMAC filled up in about a half hour. EBR was full just as fast. There's no way "everyone" can go to these events, even if there wasn't a high cost associated with them.
    Don't get me wrong. If you want to go, you should go! Even if you aren't shooting it's a great experience.
    So what's an airgunner to do? My advice is to host events locally. The rules are out there. airgunsporting... All you need is a 100 yard range, some benches, a good spotting scope and, of course, some shooters.
    About three times a year, from mid-summer to early fall, Jeff at Trenier Airguns, formerly Trenier Outdoors, hosts a 100 yard benchrest competition. For more details or to contact Jeff, here is the shop's website.

    Jeff carries a variety of airguns, optics, accessories, pellets, slugs...you name it. Check it out.
    This video is about the August 2022 competition and DonnyFL team shooters John and PJ (me) heading over to Sparta to compete. While the field was not huge, there were good shooters and we had lots of fun!
    I used two different air rifles in the video. One was my FX Impact MK II in .30 cal. It has a tensioned barrel and the Saber Tactical TRS. It's quieted by a DonnyFL Ronin and topped with an Element Optics Titan 5-25 scope. For stability I'm using the AccuTac FC4-G2 bipod and a Saber Tactical Monopod. The other rifle is a Wildcat BT MKIII Compact in .177. This one has a DonnyFL FatBoy 2.0 and an Element Optics Helix 4-16, and I'm shooting the 10.3 JSB KnockOuts out to 100 yards with pretty good accuracy. More on this in the video.
    Basically this video exists to promote local competitions and show a couple of guys here in Wisconsin having a good time. I hope you enjoy it!
    I almost forgot. I said I'd put links to the Hawke Spotting Scope I'm using and the Two Vet's Tripod. Here are those links.

      Also, does your spotting scope do well in the 100-400 yd range? Thanks

      Glad to spread the word.
      I’ve spotted sheds at 150, and coyotes past 300.

    After watching this video the first time I connected with Jeff via email and have another impact and three on order from him! Love shopping locally, or as local as you can get. Thanks pj! Hopefully I'll meet up with you at one of these events. Unfortunately can't make the one this month :(

      I'll be at Airgun Deercamp in Michigan this weekend with UpNorth Airgunner and Lethal Air, but John will be there for anyone else who is going.

    Thanks again, for the awesome video, PJ! Thank you for taking the additional time to explain why you need a spotting scope. That was my main take away from RMAC.
    Do you think your Wildcat can push the slug to about 1400FPS? I (SkeeterHawk) just posted a chart on Airgun Nation about projectile drag versus velocity and there is a steep curve until you get to about 1228FPS. There may be a point of "ultra stability" above 1228FPS.

      @WiscAirGunners  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm skeptical that you could get it up that high with a 500mm barrel, but maybe with a 700. I've not pushed anything that hard in .177.

      @@WiscAirGunners Thanks for your reply, PJ! It was good to meet you and John at RMAC!
      The drag would be different at different BCs, but the curve would be the same. As I mentioned on AGN, with a 10.3gr slug going 1400FPS, that is only about 45FPE. You are still legal, so would this leap above trans-sonic into super-sonic be the ticket to hit the X's? Will we end up using a 0.100cal "needle" that is 1/2" long going 1500FPS? Inquiring nerdy air-gunners want to know...or is it just me???

    Those green targets are impossible to see 25 cal hits. That is with 32 to 40 power optics

    • @WiscAirGunners
      @WiscAirGunners  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was able to see .22's and .25's pretty clearly with the Hawke ED glass on the spotting scope. I could see some of the .177's.
      The Element Optics Titan at 25 power lets me see the 25's easily.
      I've had other scopes and spotters where I would not make that claim.
