      Share the videos! As of now my Gears content doesn’t pull the numbers it needs to in order for me to focus on the lore videos, so they’re only really coming out when I have the extra time.
      At least until we’re closer to E-Day; Gears stuff is going to be twice a month rn if that.

    [6:50] Why this feels weird is that the original content is clearly trying to position the opinion/analysis as if it's a scholarly work (like a scientific paper published in a reputable journal), but at the same time wants to virtue signal by withholding key source material citations. That's a big no-no - scholarly work requires all relevant sources cited.

    • @Buster-McTunder
      @Buster-McTunder  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah starting the video with “I’m not gonna cite sources but trust me they’re bad,” is disingenuous from the get-go and while I can agree that fascism is bad, simply refusing to cite or reference sources makes you sound like you’re just coming up with things while claiming to be well informed.

    I feel that at a certain point, based on how much spin/ignoring of context that this guy is putting on the story, that he doesn’t actually care about delivering an accurate analysis of the narrative… rather he’s just using it as a vehicle to deliver his ideology.
    Also, it’s weird seeing Arch go “this isn’t a fascist government!” while this guy goes “this isn’t a socialist government!” - it’s like two guys on either side fend of the spectrum rushing to the deny media that would make their side look bad.
    Good video though, I’m liking your deep dives into these sorts of things. As an author, it’s useful to hear this sort of analysis.

      Albeit I do agree with him that Gears isn’t explicitly Socialist, but he does a lot to make them seem more fascist than the Imperium whereas Arch does the opposite.
      Glad to hear you like them though, we’re streaming every Saturday night so come say hi and join us as it happens!

      @@Buster-McTunder True, it’s not explicitly socialist, but I’d argue that this is the fault of the games creators rather than an in-universe fact.
      In setting, The Coalition’s founding document was written by Alexiy Desipich, a hardcore socialist. It’s only after the long Pendulum War and subsequent Locust War that the governments founding ideals were blatantly cast aside and people started calling them fascist.
      In one of the books, I forget which one, Dom is running through the streets and seeing non-COG refugees pushing in line, and he mentions that the new arrivals “just don’t get” how life works in the COG, about how “you give and you get” with the government, so they shouldn’t be worried.
      Overall, I don’t think the creators did a good job of depicting it as a socialist set-up, despite it being baked into the narrative.
      But, I think this all falls under the same vein of whether or not the “previous German authorities” were left or right wing. The COG is effectively radioactive at this point, and no real world individuals want them associated with their side.

    Yeah, this might be my last suggestion on Gears videos for now because I do not want to cause too much headache at this point. Lol. Plus this is basically the Arch video and Omaha video baked into one, so its a good conclusion.

      Eh it’s not that big of an issue, I’m more worried about repeating the same channels, if it’s not dogging on the same accounts time and time again I’m not against it

    The idea that Socialism and Communism are even remotely positive is hilarious. Socialism and Communism ARE totalitarian every time they've been implemented. Oh wait... "but that wasn't actual socialism, if only we'd do socialism right it would be good".... to quote every socialist dictator ever - "This is the good socialism! We're doing it right!" SMFH.

    • @Buster-McTunder
      @Buster-McTunder  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Meh, nothing at it’s extreme is positive but there are a lot of cultural aspects and policy based changes that can be made, influenced by socialist ideals that can lead to a better world for us if applied properly. Writing everything and anything off right away is the poisonous bit.

      @@Buster-McTunder Part of the problem with the original take (and it's definitely one of the worst I've seen) is it starts out like we're supposed to get a thoughtful analysis of the fantasy planet/fantasy world/fantasy gov't and it's political structures. However, instead it descends into a politically charged (and stupid) tirade. Setting aside whether one agrees or disagrees with the politics - it's clear as day that the original content person is a -hard- leftist. He defends socialism and communism like it's his baby while contriving arguments to support his pre-determined hatred for certain U.S. cultures and norms. Again, notwithstanding whether the hatred is deserved or not - my point only being that it's clearly deeply personal and not at all scientific or informative.

      This I can agree with, it’s intentionally dishonest and skewed in order to speak towards a specific agenda

    • @alexsmistakes7975
      @alexsmistakes7975 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I mean, they were doing it wrong by definition, the whole point of Socialism/Communism is that the workers own the means of production or that the people own the land/ are the ones who govern. You can’t have a toltalitarian government and call is communist or socialist as the simple act of having a central figure or group governing the people is completely against the comminist.
      Yes, Marx does bring up the need for a toltalitarian government but only as as a tool to take over and move the government into a communist state, he saw that the ruling class would not simply let go of their power and would have to be stripped of it. The problem is, this is really easy to twist, any dictator can easily say “I am just moving us towards true communism” well in reality letting his/her corruption and greet keep him in power.
      At the end of the day, I would say you are wrong and right, Communism could work, it works incredibly well in small communities around the world, the problem is that it will probably be impossible for any state to ever enact true communism, as the people in power will always want to stay in power

    • @mvanvoor
      @mvanvoor 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@alexsmistakes7975 Yeah, the ideals and principles as stated for these concepts are laudable. It sure would be nice if I could get quality housing, food, medicine, etc. regardless of my return contribution to society. However, it's just the practice of it has never, ever worked. It always comes with serious tradeoffs and nearly always "totalitarian government" is among them. The people in power will certainly always want to stay in power, and worse, the people they'd be replaced with then become the problem and the cycle repeats.
      Part of the issue here is that the original content person clearly doesn't want the obviously totalitarian COG to be socialist - not because they are not socialist, but because he doesn't want to accept socialism could be bad. That's not an academic analysis - that's a personal opinion. National Socialism was a form of socialism as it was also a form of authoritarianism and fascism. That doesn't mean Bernie Sanders' style of socialism is exactly the same thing - both ideals can share a common thread and be different.
      -
      Ultimately, I shouldn't know your personal opinion on socialism if you're presenting an analysis. If you want to argue the COG was Socialism or not(or any other political system), the way to do it is to state the definition and provide concrete evidence to support the point.
