@@UrbanMonkTV I've had the bike about 3 seasons now, have had the carbs cleaned and synced on it and have performed regular maintenance oil breaks etc. occasionally get a carb clogged (usually the 3rd after i really hit the gas and open it up, and have as a result ran vaccum tubes from the carbs over flows down past the engine to keep from running gas onto the engine when it does this.
just about to start my second suzuki build and saw your channel whilst browsing youtube, dont know how i have not came across it sooner. Looking forward to power watching these videos start to finish while i kill some time at work.
Yep, I plan on vlogging the build. It was my brother's bone stock '79 550L. He died suddenly last year without us ever getting a chance to ride together. I am having the bike shipped to me and hope to have it in a week or two. I'm not much of a cruiser guy so the plan is to do a frame off café build. I have done a couple other bike restorations but none involving a complete tear down. He rode the bike up to his passing so I am hoping mechanically it is pretty sound. I hope to really take my time and make this one truly special. Feel free to subscribe to my channel :)
Been following your videos for a while now, just got the engine in the frame (your lay down frame over engine technique), up to a rolling chassis now, time to start stringing cables and wiring. Inherited a basket case with no photo documentation; are you able to share any of your dismantling photos, especially cables and wiring? I realize it’s a big ask, but didn’t know if you might have already set up a photo bucket sharing thing. Thanks for all your videos, it really helps us amateurs out here.
Sorry, I stopped taking photos early on in my project because I realized my videos contained all the documentation I would need to remind myself of where things went. I ended up referencing my own videos multiple times.
Hi you are doing a great job of compliments, even I have a suzuki gs550e of 1978 wanted to know if you have manuals of components and a manual with bolts tightening pairs. Thanks
Thanks DeSmo Duke. For components lists and diagrams I use the parts finder found at shop.hponline.com/OEMpartfinder.htm. Just select your make, year and model and all the parts breakdowns are available. As for the service manual. I dowloaded that at basscliff website, members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/ . Great resource for GS owners.
I'm 17, and my uncle and father had shared and sold back forth to one another, a GS550 from 78. They gave it to me if i wanted to restore it. So now i'm starting this series from the beggining, any advice i should know before i get to the later episodes? i'm asking, is there anything i should do know especially for a first time hand at restoring?
William Flynn That is a great story! Makes your bike extra special. I would say this...Don't hurry. It's ok for these things to take a long time. The journey of the restoration is the best part. Get on thegsresources.com for tons of great info. Also get service manual from basscliff website gsarchive.bwringer.com. Use a suzuki parts finder for breakouts of specific parts/systems. Any other advice I would give is scatteted throughout my videos. Enjoy! And I love to see you project as it progesses if you're doing a blog or vlog or IG. Best.
I can already tell, I'm going to love watching this series of videos...
Thanks for watching! Careful, you may find yourself trolling Craigslist for an old bike before you know it. 😄
@@UrbanMonkTV I've already got the same year and model! XD, bought off original owner who went to my family's church runs nice, needs to run better.

@@bennettd2501 Fantastic! I have a roll of fuel line tubing that I intend to run overflow drain hoses down below the engine also. 👍

Just about to start up an 81 650 build myself, figured I sub up and follow along. Hopefully will learn a thing or two along the way!
SierraKiloGulf I hope you enjoy both your project and my videos. Thanks for watching.
Cool project. I'm getting ready to start a GS550 build as well :)
MotoBlaze Great! Will you be vlogging it? Would love to follow. No expectations here- I know how much added work it is.
