From what I have read, this was one of the reasons Vettle walked out of drivers meeting. The drivers are getting fed up with it.
Since Max has come into F1 he has always been a driver that has taken corners with "it's my corner, get out of my way attitude." The media knows it and the drivers know it. Vettle and Sir LH were asked about it and both said they would have to race Verstappen different because he is going to cause collisions. 11 championships between 2 drivers and they BOTH said the same thing. Don't believe me? Go look it up. It's on TH-cam. They need full time stewards, 1 race director, and stop playing favorites because they want someone other than SLH to win a championship. It's a disappointment and a disgrace to the sport I've loved for 40 years.

I'd love see the secret communication between all the people running F1. As they want to build F1 in US, Middle East and China would they want SLH winning again. I only watch F1 to see SLH brilliance and our rising stars. I the hope work SLH and others are doing will bring more diversity to F1. Really it only happens if he pushes it.

Get a grip my guy. There ain’t no conspiracy. Otherwise, Hamilton would have been penalized for gaining an advantage out of the track in the first lap of Abu Dhabi. Mercedes and Lewis have benefitted from mid-season rule shifts for the past 8 years, have won countless titles versus literally no one and you dare complain? The easy days are over. You will slowly have to come to terms with the fact that Hamilton is not the god you think he is out of a dominant car. Matters of fact, he has not done much to display his ability to operate lower end machinery - see early Merc this season: when the car struggled, he roamed the midfield while his teammate was consistently in the top 5 (extremely lucky for the most part this season with safety cars, yes).

Actually in Silverstone (to me) there's an even worse off-track pushing by Pérez that I don't understand why he didn't got a penalty. It was when Hamilton passes Pérez and Leclerc on the same corner. Pérez gets pushed wide by Leclerc, then proceeds to cut the corner and rejoin basically side-by-side with Leclerc, then goes wide and pushed Leclerc outside. While Leclerc has the "right" to push because he was ahead (just like Pérez with Hamilton later in the lap), Pérez should have been penalized because he cuts a corner to gain advantage, plus pushes Leclerc wide. If Leclerc didn't went wider then usual, probably knowing Pérez might be there, they would crash.
It's one of those rules I do not understand. To explain in a simple way, whoever is in front at the apex of the corner, has the advantage and has the right to push whoever is behind trying to overtake. That ruins the fights. Because as we see, now drivers simply make the apexes like nobody is behind. To me it makes no sense, if the guy behind has half a car on the side of whoever is in front, he should have the right to continue to fight for position.
I imagine at some points drivers will just get fed up of being pushed around and crashes will start piling up before the FIA finally decides to make it fair for everybody on track.

Sorry for the long note, I did some research on the rules for this year and I think this may bring more insight on how the judgement was taken for the recent overtake incidents. I personally dont agree with the Rules, I think that a car's length space should be left always thus to promote longer battles.
Indeed, the FIA's own International Sporting Code states: "Manoeuvers liable to hinder other drivers, such as deliberate crowding of a car beyond the edge of the track or any other abnormal change of direction, are strictly prohibited. Pushing or other contact resulting in a lasting advantage is strictly prohibited. Any driver who appears guilty of any of the above offences will be reported to the Stewards."
However, the ISC alone has never quite been enough to cover all the circumstances of F1 and, at the start of this year, F1's race director Niels Wittich offered some clarity on the matter to teams and drivers about what is and is not allowed.
And the key factor for judging the rights and wrongs of cars having the right to a corner was clearly defined in this 'Driving Standards Guidelines' document that was sent out.
While the definitions are 'non-binding', they are what the stewards take into account when ruling if an incident is worthy of punishment or not.
The crunch thing in each of the controversial British GP moves is to understand the point at which the car overtaking has earned the right to being given the track so can no longer be squeezed out.
The rule in the Driving Standards Guidelines is whoever is ahead in the apex dictates the exit. The stewards' judgement has been consistent with this principle. The rules state that if the inside car is ahead reaching the apex as long as he keeps his line within track limits he dictates the exit.
The Schumacher/Verstappen, Leclerc/Hamilton and Leclerc/Verstappen moments, of a driver overtaking around the outside, essentially requires the attacker to be ahead of his rival after the apex of the corner.
The document notes: "When considering what is a 'significant portion', for an overtaking on the outside of a corner, among the various factors that will be looked at by the stewards when exercising their discretion, the stewards will consider if the overtaking car is ahead of the other car from the apex of the corner. The car being overtaken must be capable of making the corner while remaining within the limits of the track."
In all three cases, the attacking driver on the outside may have got a fair chunk of their car alongside, but at no point where they ahead from the apex. So as long as the defending driver kept within track limits on the exit (which happened in all cases), their actions fully complied with the rules.
In terms of the Perez/Hamilton moment, where the Red Bull squeezed out the Mercedes after going for the inside, the demands are slightly different.
A car passing on the inside, the 'significant portion' interpretation is based on: "if the overtaking car's front tyres are alongside the other car by no later than the apex of the corner."
And that is exactly what Perez had done with his late braking move to snatch the spot from Hamilton by the time they were at the apex.
So as long as the move was completed in a 'safe and controlled manner', and Perez stayed within track limits at all times, the circuit was all his from the apex.
The racing rules may appear to encourage drivers being a bit more ruthless with their rivals on the way out of corners than they may have been in the past, but for now that's the way that both the FIA and F1 drivers are happy to accept.

  • @lucaslonghurst

It's because they base the decision on the consequence not the action. Same reason why Max got no penalty in Brazil last year but if that was a barrier or gravel or Lewis' car exploded/rolled he probably would get a penalty. It’s not how you're supposed to give penalties but it's how they do it.

Is that even car racing anymore? Why should I make it easier for you to pass me?

While I agree with you regarding the ridiculous double standard of stewards as of late, this isn’t really the best comparison. You are comparing a clip where Verstappen’s nose is considerably ahead with one where Norris’ nose is in front. Norris is ahead coming into the corner, therefore it is his corner. As is Max’s corner in the previous example with Mick. Another woeful display of bias is once again your mention of silverstone 2021. Yes, Max has a track record of being closer to the dirty side of the spectrum, but that accident was evidently hamilton’s fault. He proved that further this year when Leclerc gave him less space (as Verstappen did last year) and he was still take the inside whilst steering clear of Charles. To criticize the stewards you could have used the track limits examples or the fact that Alonso got a penalty for weaving in Canada while Leclerc did not in Silverstone, or worse, Ocon did not for closing him into the barrier in Saudi Arabia. You can be a fan and still have criteria, you know.

Bro the FIA count the white line as the track as long as you have two wheels touching the white line front and rear its not, nor has NEVER been a track limit violation only when a car goes wider than the white lines that define the edge of the track does there lap get deleted. Every driver that got a penalty went beyond the white line. Verstappen was on the white line which is 100% legal . As for the Albon penalty i dont think he deserved one, probably the only difference is the fact he was the car slightly behind but i still think it was harsh.
