      @@dansmodeluniverseI’m glad you both did this oddly designed model despite all its flaws,there have been a few times I’ve questioned my sanity to do this but as Ralph had said numerous times there is nothing like this out there the AMT model doesn’t come close at all,all the helpful hints and tips you’ve both suggested I’ve taken on board,today I used the trick Dan did with defusing paper on the nacelles and it worked fine,can’t see the bulbs at all just a continuous blue strip as it should be,I’m now about to start with the underside frame I’ve spent today moving and sticking wires down with electric tape so the frame goes in place without nipping the wires,wish me luck on that,I do think if I was offered it again I’d say no unless it was the defiant of the E in that case I’d have a serious think on it

    That is a fantastic model build of the Enterprise D that you have completed and modified. I'm right at the beginning with issue 1 from FanHome. I, too, am a perfectionist for detail and can see that I have a long road in front of me. Yet, I know I'll get there eventually. What a great job you have done with the ship and base. As I said before, it looks fantastic, and your work on it has paid off. Thank you for the video, and congratulations on completing a wonderful build....

    Couldn’t agree more Dan. It seems in this “partworks universe” anything goes. I’ve built a few, and the best was the Millennium Falcon. It fitted together, it was well engineered and a pleasure to build. These models are wildly expensive and so disappointing when you realise nobody actually built this, and nobody engineered this and you have no funding to deliver all issues, and are dependent on initial subscribers to fund the next issues from 30 onward, and then the next batch and the next batch. It’s very obvious mistakes, where “well orange will do” as it’s cheap and the manufacturer has orange in stock that’s so annoying. I have to say I gave up on this build 5 issues in, and glad I did as other partworks I did see through to the end getting delivery of a wire, or a bit of cardboard for my £10.99 or as you did nothing for weeks and weeks. The design of this was horrific, from the mistakes, the too heavy front, the appalling stand, the rats nest of wires, and all were as obvious as the nose on your face. How they have the cheek and how advertising standards allow them to say engineered, or museum quality and at the huge cost is beyond me

      The T-800 from Agora, for me, was a delight to build. The Lotus Esprit from them is also a joy, so far (although Pack 5 is delayed). Regarding the Enterprise though, the mistakes were/are unforgiveable. Lighted flush vent!?! And only one of them was lit!?!?!?
      That “stand” was a disgrace, they should have be flogged 😊
      The final insult, was the decals, they even got those wrong.
      Because I went to issue 20, I decided to see it to the end, but I totally understand why you called it a day at issue 5.

    This build has been plagued with issues from the start. That said it sure does look pretty awesome when finished. I'm waiting for all the issues to ship before I finish my build. Eaglemoss killed my spirits when they went under and Fanhome came in and saved the day but I'm still not doing anything until I have all the issues in hand. Definitely wayyyyyyyy overengineered.

    I'm a complete novice when it comes to more advanced model builds, but I've spent years now studying how to do things as I slowly work my skills up to standards. And I can tell you I was appalled at the way they were lighting it and the MASSIVE light gaps between the panels and around the windows and the lifeboats. The way the lifeboats didn't sit flush on assembly was a HUGE red flag that lighting issues were about to happen.

    With all the effort and genius modifications, you should take your model out on the road and show it off. You did an impressive job! I'd have to agree wholeheartedly, for anyone new considering the build, DON'T! I'm still to this day, stuck with a half built saucer that I'd considered many times starting back up to finish but seeing yours and RT Ralphs pains of building, mine will sit in a box gathering dust. The cost alone compared to all the build issues doesn't seem worth it to me.

    A great retrospective, Dan. And a searing condemnation of the hubris and inattentiveness which so obviously underpinned Eaglemoss’s originating the project. I’m not a fan of “the fat one”, and though I could afford to do it, I don’t want to spend that sort of money. Add to those strikes the errors you’ve highlighted, and the (amazing) mods you did - sometimes through necessity (to fix those errors, other times through sheer nerdiness (😉)… and those’re a LOT of strikes! What I can’t answer right now is: were FanHome to to another Trek partwork, and it was a ship I DO like… would I risk it? 🤷‍♂️

    • @dansmodeluniverse

      So far, the Batmobile is excellent and everything fits the way its supposed to. Although it is only 20 stages in, there are no red flags, where as by that stage with the Enterprise... well...
      So, if Fanhome were to announce say the 1701 or the refit I would definitely go for it.

    Eaglemoss never said it was test built. They repeatedly admitted that it was never done. They openly told visitors to the destination Star Trek event in London that they themselves had NEVER seen a completed model, the one they had was a prototype built by an EU manufacturer not the chinese company that they had contracted to develop the subscription supply and that they had only ever themselves received shipments 1-18 by that point.. there are videos of these statements about…

    I quit building this disaster at stage 50. $720 thrown away on the worst model kit I've ever had the displeasure of building. The constant delays in getting the parts, the overengineered lighting, poorly fitting parts and horrible light leaks everywhere did me in. I'll just wait for Tomy to release the D which I'm sure they will in the future that will be diecast metal, same size and fully painted and built at half the cost. This experience with these Partwork kits has soured me on them forever. Building a kit monthly instead of being able to build the entire kit is the stupidest method I've ever seen. Never again!

  • @frankiFracture
    @frankiFracture หลายเดือนก่อน

    I was $600 into the build when they stopped shipping kits, they sent a pair of shuttles and charged me $60. They then stopped shipping kits for 6 months even after contacting them and asking for the 2 kits a month. Their response was another pair of shuttles that I was charged another $60. I cancelled my subscription and now have an expensive piece of uselessness.
    I forgot mention this was the Eaglemoss build not the Fanhome.

      @dansmodeluniverse  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I got the first shuttle set, then I emailed them saying I didn't want anymore.
      I've asked Fanhome, for future releases to give a "basic" option; no magazines, no 'free gifts' etc. Just the build. (the instructions can be PDFs on their site). I hope they do.

    The worst bit for me was when Eaglemoss openly lied about the stand. It was published repeatedly that it was coming with issue 12. Then all of a sudden it was issue 14/16 and then we got that thing drop shipped from Amazon with “camera tripod” still attached to the label packing inside. It was clear then that this was never going to be finished by EM. That was the utter shocking careless attitude. Mine literally came from amazon in a box labelled chinese and a white sticker saying “camera tripod” and the the day after received the cardboard slip packing for the base from EM. Before the slip arrived I had contacted Amazon asking why I had been sent a tripod, no mention of EM or their plans. They just went online and shipped all their customers the crappest they could find to shut them up for another week

      I'll never forget when I took it out of the box, I had it on the floor and just stared at it, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
      When I signed up for the build on their site, the premium offer included the premium stand, which I wanted to go with but it wouldn’t let me choose that option, so I had to go with the standard offer.
      I contacted them but they said the premium offer was unavailable due to a problem with their site. Foreshadowing!
      But yeah, when I saw what they sent, and the wrap around piece of cardboard…

      @@dansmodeluniverse yep, and those in the US who signed up for that premium didnt get anything extra… just more money out.. Fanhome at least appears to have secured the premium base design globally …. But that said absolutely anything would be better than that tripod junk. I think that was when customers worldwide realised this project was done.., that fortnight and withdrawals was EMs overall final blow. I personally know 20 people who all dropped out at that point in just my local town

      Did ANYONE ever get the "premium" display that had the mirror base with LED lighting around it? Eaglemoss advertised it as an extra add-on which in turn, added a couple more bucks to my monthly subscription price. I paid for it as part of my now defunct subscription, but have yet to see anyone (including myself) with that base, only the cheap pyramid stand that I too would never have trusted to hold the ship
