    Nice progress and thanks for sharing your knowledge. I can appreciate what you mean by saying it's an enjoyable process. When I was younger (and more impatient) I found working on cars sometimes a bit of a chore. Lately I've completely changed my mindset, I dont set myself a rushed timeline and I really just enjoy the process, it helps to get my mind off the day to day stuff and the sense of accomplishment makes it all worthwhile. Great to see another piece of Aussie history saved

    I’ve watched your videos for a while now. Your techniques have helped me to become a better painter especially with metallics. I spray yachts for a living in the uk so your videos have def come in handy. Keep em coming 👍🏻

    I did my hatchback similar in repairs years ago. They love rusting around the tailight buckets and around behind bumper and the bonnet hinges mounting plates, front rear glass corners rear doors. Seen a guy on eBay once selling fibreglass buckets that you could use resin to join with the metal. There's a primer called Teroson zinc powder spray it's designed for welding after where you can't paint after weld and holds up I had no issues. Out of all the cars I did Torana was challenging in repairs, mines not perfect never will be, your doing great mate cheers.

    This series just makes me smile Gunny. Keep up the great work. Unless the engine bay is in great nic you can go the middle road of satin black. Glossy enough but still hides little imperfections. Lovin this content.

    Big congrats on your hardwork brother..those types of cars is a tuff cookie. My dad used to paint those.. finishing mechanic work this week on my ride so I can free up my garage to paint.. also it might be hard to use but the tiger hair fiberglass and or the fiberglass resin is good for those welded jobs to overlay and on the inside.. great work

      Yeah man, just put metal back in and make it strong, use good primers and sealers, make it look good with a bit of filler. The panel game, especially the restoration scene has gotten quite elitist. But that's probably more the online world, in the real world this is how many people do it.

    Great progress there Gunny you are smashing it bro!! don't worry about the keyboard experts mate you are doing a fab job on the panels there is nothing wrong with those welds mate.
    I've done a lot of welding under cars in my time and I've seen some shocking work done by so called pro welders, I'm far from being a pro at it but IMO what you have done is solid and as you said it's probably stronger that what it was from factory👏👍John UK.

    Still kicking goals gunny well done man. Little tip for bare metal coverage, a product called Easy Phos by OxyTech. Aerosol, spray or brush on over bare metal, it is a very thin substance that goes on clear and I'm led to believe you can wipe down with wax and grease remover and epoxy straight over it, check it out mate.
    Keep up the great work and vids 👍

    Hey gunny another fun video mate, your smashing it. I've got a desperation question not related to this video, but I thought I'd ask on your most up to date video. So I'm respraying my 2005 hilux Ute, I sanded it all back, filled the stone chips with glazing putty, sanded smooth and preped, sprayed 2 full coats of 2k Body Pro P334 HS Primer, then blocked it down and finish sanded to P400g, this process went perfectly, no issues. 48 hrs later I blew it off, used wax and grease remover too clean it up, prepsoled it with your 50/50 meth/water mix, then tack raged ready for colour. It's a single stage paint Toyota Super White 11 (code 040), so no clear coat. However, when I started laying down the colour I got a reaction with the paint separating as if it had a contaminant on the panel. So I cleaned it up again with thinners and re-preped again, cleaned out my gun with 2k thinners and tried again, still had the same reaction. I went to the paint supplier to see if there was an issue with my prep method or the primer for using this single stage paint (Valspar 862 series 2k Polyurethane Mix) but he said no problems there. He recons its likely a contaminated cloth or my compressed air, but I always use fresh micro fiber cloths and clean tack rags out of the sealed bags, I've also got a water/oil filter first, then a water/desiccant filter second, and a Motorguard M30 toilet roll style filter third so I really can't see the air being the issue. He asked me to explain my process and when I said I used the 50/50 metho/water prepsol he shook his head and said that's probably the problem using a "strange concoction like that" (his words not mine mate). I used exactly the same metodology before laying down the primer with no issues. So, all that explained, could it possibly be the prepsol mix (I doubt it) but I am no expert. If it's not, what else could it be, and how do I prevent it happening again? If it is a contaminant on a cloth or the prepsol it self I'm going to have to lightly sand the whole car to get an uncontaminated paint layer and try again tomorrow, but I don't know what to try to stop this reoccurring. I know you are a very busy guy but I'd really appreciate it if you could respond with your thoughts mate. Cheers Andy

      @stevebonney9480 ปีที่แล้ว

      i have read all about your efforts, it sucks that you are having dramas at this late stage. My two bobs worth....just use prepsol, dont mix it.

    • @andywright2606
      @andywright2606 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Steve Bonney Hey Steve, thanks for the suggestion mate. I will probably do a you suggested, but having already potentially contaminated the primer I will still need to give it a light sanding to reveal a fresh layer. Cheers

    Can you do a video using the tuffest primer of all on a project. It's the gel based primer used on navy ships.. I had to cut it 50% with reducer. But wow it's very strong stuff. Painted a intake manifold cover and 7 years later it's still perfect.. I can't wait to get to prepping and painting in my garage this week. And tiny jobs..

    • @TheGunmanChannel
      @TheGunmanChannel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For now I just have to use what I have. And I have the zinc primer, it's actually awesome.

    Hey Gunny don't worry about negative comments your a painter not a fabricator or panel beater as long as you get there in the end. I personally customised many cars in the past and only got positive comment when they were finished and i did n't follow all the rules just got on with it. Plus there was no internet to get an idea from only past involvement in the trade.

    Satin black hides a lot of sins and it'll give the engine bay a factory finish look. Gloss black on anything less than a perfectly straight and prepped engine bay really highlights any faults and imperfections.
