Instead of rusting away in a field, this old tractor like so many like it is still working the fields in the 21st century because they was well built and gave great service to several generations of farmers. I got to drive one of the newer models when it was new in 1965 with power steering and more horse power than I was use to and loved it so much.
2-3 times? I'm a 4th generation 8n owner!! still work it every season of the year. Snow plowing, lawn mowing, garden plowing, wood splitting, dirt hauling beast.
imagine, the first time an old timer seen this after following his horse around the field for a month straight. Love old tractors and farming. Its a lifestyle, forget the city life and put some lean muscle on your body and calluses on your hands.
I tried using my grandpa's Dearborn disc-type two bottom breaking plow in my field and didn't get half as deep until I hit solid rock, I'm a little jealous. Great camera steadiness to your camera person too.
I’ll bet if it was dark your manifold would be glowing red hot! She sure runs like a champ! I love plowing and snow blowing and mowing with mine ! When I get behind the wheel I forget about all my troubles 🇨🇦😀
Nice! We love these good ol' tractors! Me and my husband recently bought our 2nd n-series tractor. First is our 9n which is dedicated with a Dearborn/Danuser posthole digger and 2nd is our 8n that we are using as the work horse for plowing, forklift, Dearborn 10-6 scoop, and whatever other attachments we can use but I wanted to ask if you ever used or thought you should use rear stabilizers for the 3-pt arms when you plow... we noticed our plow will shift side-to-side and will also lean to one side when the plow is raised up and we're on a slight slope and so making it a little more difficult getting the plow right where it should be when lowering it to the ground.
I live in east Tennessee. Some spots are, some aren't. I live in a valley like area, pretty much just soil when we dig, but there are slate rock in some spots.
What kind of differential does this tractor have ? If it is a limited Slip differential it does pretty good. I know I hear a lot of hype about locking differentials, but if this tractor doesn't have them, it doesn't spin out very much. I am considering buying a 2wd tractor for plowing, and tillage work. The Massey Ferguson 2605 doesn't come with locking rears, but the John Deere 5045d does. I like the ag tires that come on the MF, because of the tread pattern, and depth.
The 8n had an open diff no locks of any kind. For future reference you have the from bottom plowing too wide. The ground is easier to work up if the plowing job is more even. You adjust this by rotating the shaft that the lower links attach to. The old tractor does run well, it sound really nice and it is running about the right rpm.
I have a 48 8n as well and am trying to set a similar plow. What's the measure on yours? I have two 14s and am having a hard time getting it set to turn the sod completely over.
Is that plow a double 14" or double 16"? That is a beauty of an 8n. Looks almost new. Yeah the only LSD in these old girls are the double brake pedals! They work really well for traction control though.
Actually, it is most likely a double 12". With only about 22 horsepower on the draw bar, 24 inches of plowing width is about all an 8N can handle, and it is struggling here.
He's already in first gear. This ground is about three days short of being dry enough to plow. Still, interesting video. Wish him luck trying to disk this field to level it up for planting.
I have a 51 8N with a Dearborn 2 bottom plow. I think you are plowing in first gear and trying to plow to deep. I found that if you plow in 2nd (like the old manual says) and let the draft control do it's job, you would be amazed at how little effort is needed and your tractor will work so much easier even at half throttle. Seriously, it will plow so easy you barely know it's behind you. Just my opinion.
Every so often you need to plow as deep as practical to keep from having a "plow pan " from plowing at the same depth every year . Cant tell if that is sod or not but it always is hard plowing in sod
Johnny Warshaw 4cyl 119.7 ci (2.0 L) rated at 27-30 hp. transmission is 4 speed constant mesh (tractor must be stopped and clutch used to change gears) 4x2 wheel drive open rear (no posi or locking differential ) no high/low. 2700 lbs weight , not the most powerful but a workhorse i have a 1952 8n and it'll do almost as much as my newer LS XR4046 with exception being the ls has better pto and more power and 4x4 and synchro transmission (can shift from forward to reverse with out stopping and shit gears while moving ) but the ford is still used on my farm ill run it till it dies
You can plough , even though Id say you are a bit too deep but to each their own , could do with skimmers working , anyway well done there are so many idiots out there who put up videos much the same as yours and they havent a clue

The 8n tractor is inherited 2 to 3 times before it quits. only problem I have had with an 8n is being to reliable.
I know a few people who own one and itt have been totally reliable for them.

awm9110 I'm glad you proved me wrong. I did intend to say 2 to 3 times before it needs to be rebuilt not quit.
These were great old tractors manufactured in the day when Ford was a powerhouse in the market. Still a ton of them on out there going strong.
My Dad had a three bottom plow for his 8n tractor. Got to plow in fields a few times. Also plowed up garden in fall. Great memories

Farmer James nah having no self control and constantly shoveling garbage in your mouth makes you a fat fuck don’t blame the tractor
I just got my '51 8N and love it. I'm looking forward to putting out a bigger garden next year with it.
I tried using my grandpa's Dearborn disc-type two bottom breaking plow in my field and didn't get half as deep until I hit solid rock, I'm a little jealous. Great camera steadiness to your camera person too.
spent many a day plowing our back fields with one of these, sounds like he needs to open it up!!!
I’ll bet if it was dark your manifold would be glowing red hot! She sure runs like a champ! I love plowing and snow blowing and mowing with mine ! When I get behind the wheel I forget about all my troubles 🇨🇦😀

@1227Fretwork east tennessee is very rocky, but where i live in middle tennessee it is gently rolling with clay like medium and fine textured soils

I did a ton of work with my old Ford 9n. Very good tractors. A little weak on the rear lift but still good.
Curious to see if my ( new to me) ford 1710 2wd diesel will handle a 2 bottom? Its rated at 26hp and weighs in around 2400 Lbs..????
@brian93ist Actually it is in Full throttle
My God, I forgot about the gear/hydraulic whine...brings back memories!!
@brian93ist Not Sure on the Rpm's Cause my gauge is broke that shows that But the Gear Is 2nd.
in tennessee if you plowed when it was that wet, talk about some clotty cropland
Dident think it would do 2, and that soil black as night. good stuff

Does it have a high low transmission
nice 8n she was pulling hard in the hard land but she did good
I'm guessing it has a Ferguson plow on it?

the misses and i now have a 9n she may be old but she shows up for work every day of the week no better model on the market today
So, Benjamin, can you share with us some information on the plow? Is it a 2-14 or 2-16, how deep do you have it setup to plow?
I have a 48 8n as well and am trying to set a similar plow. What's the measure on yours? I have two 14s and am having a hard time getting it set to turn the sod completely over.
Need to angle it vack front plow pulling to deep

He needed to drop down a gear.. seems I used to plow in second gear wide open on the engine.
He's already in first gear. This ground is about three days short of being dry enough to plow. Still, interesting video. Wish him luck trying to disk this field to level it up for planting.
That *is* low gear on an 8N. Only an underdrive like a Sherman subtransmission would help
@1227Fretwork how many rpm's and what gear?
does it heat up?
@uncle33000 isn't Tennessee A Rocky Country?
quality ploghing right there
Great job plowing nice n deep👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Runs like a charm
no it it is just a limited slip differential lock
I did 40 acres of that when I was 11 back in the early 60s. For a kid it couldn't get more boring.
Used to ploughing like this

i agree,to deep and wrong gear, way to much stress on that tractor
Deff need more speed to roll the dirt over right
Every so often you need to plow as deep as practical to keep from having a "plow pan " from plowing at the same depth every year . Cant tell if that is sod or not but it always is hard plowing in sod
He said he is plowing in second gear, its struggling because its so deep and he said its wide open throttle...
flat head v8?
4cyl. I'm certain
+Johnny Warshaw its a 4 cyl bud the ford jublee had a special built 4 cyl check it out
Put It On 720P Video So You Get The Full HD Video
Suena lindo, bien potente yo tuve un ferguson 48
nice tractor
Looks so easy
Front plow taking too big a bite ,rotate that front shaft that the lift arms hooks to
Soil envy
oops that should read "front bottom"
lol that's shit is power. :$ oh yay.
First off, you're set up all wrong. The plow should be set up so that your right side tires ride just inside of the last furrow cut.
I think it's just fine,it isn't working hard at all
Run a disk over it first
I can put them plows on the back of my 790 John Deere and show ya how to get that plowing done in a hurry!
You can plough , even though Id say you are a bit too deep but to each their own , could do with skimmers working , anyway well done there are so many idiots out there who put up videos much the same as yours and they havent a clue
