My dear old dad used to drive one of these. It was the green and yellow racing colours and turned heads everywhere it went. Can't wait to see this thing go! The car itself is quite small so it's maybe a small scale thing.

I've just bought a M-01 chassis with a repop Mini Cooper body, If I remember you have different tyre compounds front and rear as the motor hangs out in the rear. Great little chassis as I've got a M-01, 3 M-05's, a M-06 and a MF-01X

I bought and built an M05 Mini Cooper Monte Carlo edition for my nephew a few years back as a gift to him. Like you, and didn’t particularly like building it. Chassis was too small and fidgety, and had major clearance issues with the arches and the wheels. Those small little body details like the lights and indicators were a pain as well. But, my word, when it was done it looked magnificent. Proper scale. Almost didn’t want to let it go😄.

Hey Glenn! Mate I kinda like this car tbh!? It's definitely 70s/80's style car, which is kinda cool cos that's the beginning of my life growing up, so the 70's/80's motor car stlying has a special place for me personally emotionally! Very kind gesture to the guy(s) who donated so thank you! Thanks Glenn! Look forward to a future vid to see how this one ends mate! Wes, Liverpool UK.

The M chassis' are indeed 1/10th, and as you said all done for certain bodyshells so they look more scale. Personally I love the M chassis', they're pretty cool, easy to build and loads of upgrade potential, and they handle pretty well too. The M08R is the latest Tamiya M chassis, should be out by now I think, but it ain't cheap😅 I like the Lotus Europa, but I think it looks better without the rear wing, Andy Robinson RC did a great paint job on his. Cool video, looking forward to seeing what you do with this one👍👍

This is one of my favourite kits of recent. Something about odd 70's cars I really find appealing. Personally, I would paint it up in black/black metallic/black pearl to look similar to the black-gold livery of the Lotus F1 cars from the 60's - 70's. If you are looking to move it on after the build I'd be willing to recoup the costs... 😉

Yep they are 1:10 and usually feature bodys which was on the small side in real life. Take the Lotus Europa Special for instance, in real life it had 2337mm wheelbase, the M06 variant has 225mm, so it is nearly 1:10 scale to the point. The Escort MkII had 2400mm wheelbase and the MF01X variant which is also a M-chassis variant but with 4x4 has 239mm wheelbase and are spot on regarding size. These are true 1:10 scale as the HPI Cup Racers was. More modern cars are bigger and therefore the touring cars is also 1:10. The Mk1 Mondeo that Tamiya made was actually smaller than 1:10, more like 1:11 as the real one sports 2704mm wheelbase but the FF01 chassis had 257mm wheelbase. All true scale cars is molded after the wheelbase. Traxxas for example calls their vehicles 1:10, but it is just a class, not accurat measurements downsized from real life. Most of the so called crawlers are in fact about 1:8.5 in scale. Clod body is near 1:11 scale and if you put that beside a Traxxas Bronco, they are totally wrong for their scale when comparing them. The real Silverado picup which Clod is based on is much larger in real life than a Bronco.
Tamiya Zaspeed Capri is a tad smaller than 1:10 as a real Capri Mk3 has 2560mm wheelbase while the Tamiya one is put on the short wheelbase of TT02 which are 251mm. But the propotions of that body is accurat so the measurements do not make any difference to the look of it.
So some vehicle bodies are true 1:10 scale, some are near and some are way off and typically is just a class thing.
Tamiya big rigs are usually 1:14, but if they had to be made to 1:10 scale they whould have been 25cm wide and much much longer.
Regarding my own collection I like 1:10 and 1:12 scale vehicles. Smaller and they get too small for my liking, bigger and take up too much space.

Hi Glenn can’t wait to see your interpretation of the Europa. I did mine based on a type 54 lotus europa which was in Colorado orange a genuine lotus colour , you can Google the original lotus factory colours online. I also took the wing off as the car I replicated didn’t have one. I personally think that she’ll looks loads better once it’s all painted and stickered up and looks nice and scale. The reason you have tyres in two bags is: they are different compounds softer for the rear hard for the front, the springs for the pogo shocks are also same soft rear hard front. Enjoy 😉

Hey, M-chassis are a lot of fun! I dont particularly like the Lotus Europa either, looks like something they designed, but it melted in the oven, so they put a jacuzzi+lid in the back, and to fill it out. Its just, got droopy lines. BUT, the m06 is a peach. Use the Lots Europa as a basher chassis for it, and consider getting some cool M-chassis body for it, like a 911 porsche or something! Look foward to seeing you have a spin with it.

I like the M chassis. I've got a VW Karmann Ghia and Citroen 2CV Rally. I enjoyed the build of both. Wheelbase can be varied in kit. I quite like the Lotus. Seem to remember some of these in the Black and Gold JPS paint scheme. Good to see no pre drilled holes in bodywork. Used magnets on my VW Karmann Ghia, it looks so much better without the body posts. It'll be interesting to see your choice of paint. Box art looks a little bland. I'd thought about doing one in a racing green with Silver/Chrome lower body panels and trim. They need oil filled shocks. A little too bouncy for a low chassis out of the box on springs. Enjoy the build. ATB Darren.

M chassis with odd number are fwd, and with even number are rwd. The mf 01 x are 4wd. I think they are 1/10 scale of smaller cars
The m08 concept is the latest rwd tamiya chassis I think
I've run a couple of m06 in different wheelbases and they are really fun to drive with a "relaxed" motor. With something more agressive... Too much for me 😂😂

Lotus cars is just up the road from where I live the europa was a stunning car very tiny compared to the average car of the day
So although the m chassis is more 1/12 the size of the mini and this lotus would relate to 1/10
They are great little chassis’s and work really well it’s good for limited space and costs
I read the shell was deliberately left without holes to allow people the ability to go true scale with or without wing and magnetic mounts

Hi Glenn the ‘M’ chassis is definitely 1/10, this ‘M’ chassis I believe is rear wheel drive. The Lotus Europa stopped product I believe was 1975. It’s an iconic car, from an era of Lotus’ that were built in Norfolk, I believe they used mainly Renault engines. It’s certainly an odd ball in looks though, but then again, that’s what makes it stand out from the rest, whether thats a good thing or bad thing, will depend on your opinions of Lotus. You don’t sound very enthusiastic about this one Glenn? Perhaps the only way to resolve that is to build and run and see if this surprises? Enjoy my friend.

Loads might disagree but the Europa was a sort of entry level lotus. Never a great car.

Ive definitely always wanted an M chasis because they're usually true 1/10 scale but yeah this shell doesn't do it for me at all.

Mate this is awesome! Paint it a nice metallic red or blue. Tamiya often make these ugly ducklings, but they age well

If you want batshit crazy look at some of the period correct lotus colours from the late 60s. Flouro green, orange ,. Yellow...
