Thank you Thorsten! Our team at Neon AI absolutely loved your video. Thank you most sincerely for your time, effort, honesty and contribution to the community.
You're very welcome, Clary ☺
Hey Thorsten! Chance from OVOS here. The rotating GUI is probably the most frequent question that hasn’t made the FAQ. It’s simply because the GUI in question is showing bespoke Neon graphics, but it isn’t a bespoke Neon or Mark II GUI. It’s the same GUI that runs on OVOS’ own, hacker-focused offerings, and which was at one point the only Mycroft GUI. Principal author Aditya Mehra of KDE/late of OVOS.
Aditya supported portrait orientation in case somebody built an OVOS device with a vertical screen, and then added a manual rotation feature because we were nowhere close to gyroscopes in our projects.
Since the GUI is *not* bespoke, it doesn’t trim that feature on the Mark II. We realize this is a little jarring because the device in question doesn’t do portrait mode, but since the only effect is a menu button users don’t need, it hasn’t found its way anywhere close to the top of triage yet. It’s likelier to get fixed in some kind of broader device support pass than on its own account.
Thanks for your clarification, Chance 👍. A shoutout to Aditya Mehra and KDE for the UI and for additionally providing features (as rotation) that can be used in future on devices which might be operated in portrait mode 👏.
Thank you for the video. This was very helpful. I am considering purchasing one and I am glad I watched this video
I'm happy you found my video helpful 😊.
Hello Thorsten, thank you so much for this video. I have been wanting to setup a pycroft for privacy in order to replace my alexa. I think it would work perfect for me, but maybe not for my wife, who is not a technical person. Hopefully, privacy focused assistants like mycroft will eventually evolve to an end user product, in order to appeal to a broad audience in the future.
I was hoping you would include the difference between Alexa and Neon/MyCroft. Other than that, good video.
Thanks for your topic suggestion. I've added a comparison video between Alexa and NeonAI to my TODO list.
This was a great video and explanation! I am glad to see that developers are continuing Mycroft's work.
I hope at some point you will make a similar introduction for Willow and its Inference Server.
Thanks for reminding me about "Willow" 😊. I did not have this in mind any more, but it's absolutely worth a look.
I'm pretty excited to give this a look! Found out about it earlier today. If I can find my old laptop, I'll put neon OS on it and turn it into an ai assistant. Is there a way to integrate with with a music service like youtube music and an ad blocker?
Not sure if all "old" Mycroft skills are compatible with Neon OS, but this list might be a good first place to take a look 😊. github.com/MycroftAI/mycroft-skills
Well that was somethiing probably a lot people where waiting for. A step by step introduction to NeonOS. I am still running Mycroft AI on my Mark 2 because the performance on the stable image is at least on my end excellent. I am actually pretty sad, that there is abviously no way for SSH with its operating system. Or is there a way I dont know yet? As for NeonOS within my own experience and also that similar impression I got from your video, specially the moment you had to wait 10 seconds to let Neon know you the realtime.... (even if you use an SSD and no USB stick), I dont feel comfortable yet to use it on a daylie routine. But I am still willing to give it a chance! You asked what kind of videos we would like to see next? Well, I can only speak for myself and I wish a step by step guide how to use putty or potty (?), and for example how to change the language from English to German, ne? ;)
Thanks. Yes the speed seems to be a little problematic right now. Not sure if the problem is while doing speech to text or text to speech, but i'll keep an eye on it. And yes, switching language (to german) is on my TODO list.
Gude! 😄
Guude! 😄
Hola, Peter in Spain here, I think she is up and running now after initial tech hitches ( duff ssd) Q have you found how neon can install a new skill by asking her, instead of using ssh
Hola Peter, i have not tried installing or configuring Mark II by voice instead of ssh. But just using voice seems much more user friendly. Do you think making a non-ssh voice only video for Mark II would make sense?
