The shifter seems nice quality and used materials, the meaty and loud click is probably really immersive when playing - however, the loudness could probably also be an immediate problem for some people where noise is a concern and seems like there's no good in-between to achieve here. There's not much you can expect out of a sequential shifter and it seems most of them out there meet the expectations, so it's really easy to nitpick on the smaller things, and this shifter seems to have a handful. The gear display is cool and the fact it doesn't rely on software seems like great idea at first, but one mis-shift later, it's all out of sync with no quick way to fix it. Additionally it's also in a place you never look at during a race, so you can't even get any information out of it, you just drive with the knowledge in your head that there's a little gear display you can't see and it's definitely out of sync - seems like ocd nightmare 😂 No display at all would probably be a better choice, or even better - have one or two buttons more in its place. It's a shame about the fourth button that you can't bind as well. Overall seems like it's still a great sequential shifter that gets the basics right and it tries to offer a little bit more than others, but with a bit odd result.
All great observations! I have played with the adjustment and I think I’m able to find a good middle ground now. Thanks for your amazing comment yet again. I genuinely feel that comments like yours carry a huge amount of weight and really help people to make their own decisions. It encourages discussion and often shows that my opinions are just that, and may not be the same as everyone else’s. More opinions makes for more informed decisions :)
Having the additional buttons is what appeals to me most with this shifter. Means I could set my permanent buttons on the shifter and not have to worry about the different layouts when I switch wheels. Also the double USB, one of the things I dislike about the Newt is the placement of the USB port, I'm always hitting the lead sticking out of the side of it.
Yeah it is super handy for resetting to the pits or lights or whatever. The USB ports are handy but could still be placed better I feel. It’s a really cool product
@@LaurenceDusoswa did you actually setup the shifter thru the simagic software? There is a video showing how to setup the shifter right so that may cause the miss shift?
Just a couple tips: Adjustment is done via the center bolt, using an Allen key. The jam nut and cylinder housing should remain untouched. You can also reverse/flip the LCD display, for users who want to mount the shifter 180 degrees from your setup. When connected to the Can-Bus port on the wheelbase, the shifter will power ON and OFF with the base unit. A setup guide can be found here: th-cam.com/video/2Pgse71daT4/w-d-xo.html Thanks for the review.
Hey man! Cheers! This isn’t a review, it’s a first impressions “thinking out loud” style video to show my thoughts rather than give actual information. I’ll try to adjust it with a hex key. Flipping the orientation is possible yeah. I can’t see anyone running it in flipped orientation though as the buttons and screen become somewhat obstructed by the lever and not as accessible. I’m yet to try it in that orientation so could be wrong. Can-bus makes no real difference for me because my wheelbase never turns off either. The power switch is in an awkward place on the mains adapter. I need to buy the emergency stop, really. Thanks for the detail as usual!
Great review. I really wish the gear indicator light was in sync with the game and you could map the neutral button as neutral and the other program button as hazard lights. I think it would be helpful getting back on the road after a crash. I think I really want this anyway, it's so cool. Thanks for the video
Yeah the sync thing is a real problem unfortunately :( the idea is really cool and if you never mis-shift, you won’t notice any issues. But I encountered the issue almost instantly. It’s a super cool bit of kit and the innovation being shown here is very very welcome.
I love this shifter but purchased it for £300 from a friend who had it less than a 4 months and used it maybe a few times so was like new. The main reason for getting it was down too its feel but more than that was the look. The leds buttons and the led screen even if not useful it still looks great with my triple screen set up and all my led button boxes and led button cube control wheels so fits in perfectly.
Looks like a nice piece of hardware! That screen looked like a gimic, but it really is bad that it desynchs. I think we had a chat in VC with some of the guys about maybe it fully glowing bright red when you hit the rev limit? That you can maybe see it glowing red? Currently it's just one of those things that look cool when you buy the product, but then you would never pay attention to it. Otherwise great build quality and everything. @Laurence Dusoswa you need to make a comment as your were making a mistake which could lead too problems for people. At the end when you show undoing the nut to give more or less tension was wrong. Your not supposed too undo that nut and turn the whole thing you should you the big silver Alan key they provided and you just move the grub screw in and out for tension.
