Yamaha YAS-480 Intermediate Eb Alto Saxophone
With a design influenced by high-end Yamaha saxophones, the Yamaha YAS-480 alto saxophone features highly accurate intonation, a warm tone and a quick response. It is lightweight yet durable, and comes with a professional-quality 62-style neck for a more mature quality of sound.
The hand-engraved pattern on the YAS-480 bell adds an extra touch of class, and endears the instrument to its owner. The redesigned octave key system gives players the flexibility to choose between the included 62-style neck and those designed for the Custom Z and Custom EX Yamaha saxophones. The included new 62-style neck has been redesigned for improved tone and response.
The separate key guards feature adjustable screw cap stoppers for professional-style technical adjustments, and the left-hand seesaw key has been designed to increase playability as well as provide a more comfortable feel. The YAS-480 features an improved mechanism from low B-C# ensures the consistent closing of the low C# key and promotes a clear response from notes in the low range of the instrument.

I just picked a YAS 480 and I can honestly tell you it's the best horn on the market for the price range offered. Student horns can run from 400.00 to 600.00 and some of them are ok for a student. This YAS 480 was designed exactly like the 62 and has all the design a features of a much higher priced horn, ...how ever! Its price point and sound is just fantastic. I had a 24 true tone Buescher and a student yas 23 and had intermediate to pro Selmer. The ones that were made in the USA. And out of all these horns. The Yamaha 480 stands above all of them!! You can't go wrong!!!
It plays great for a beginner like I am. With the previous saxophone that I have, I had great difficulties playing the higher notes on the 3rd octave. With the YAS 480 which I have just received, the playing is fluid and the sound of the sax is great!
I just bought one on EBay from the Netherlands and I'm waiting for it to arrive. I'm eager to try it out.

I would search for used ones made in Japan. The only reason to go for a 62 instead of 480, is when the price is too close to call and the condition you are getting is better on 62. Otherwise, 480 is a better value.
Would a Yamaha 480 with a V1 neck sound close enough to the Yamaha 62?

It is a Guardala Bebop traditional with very small baffel.
It does sound really nice but since it's an Alto sax you wouldn't need a metal mouthpiece, it's really not necessary
