  • Well this 2022 sporadic-E DX season has started with quite the bang.
The maximum-usable-frequency (MUF) for sporadic-E climbed up to 162.525 MHz, which is home to NOAA Weather Radio’s WNG725 El Dorado, AR.
I had three other NOAA stations: Palestine, TX; Sherman, TX; and Broken Bow, OK.
This is my highest-ever-frequency sporadic-E catch…but not even close to the record. It has reached over 200 MHz.
This video was at 1650 UTC May 7, 2022. You’ll see that the video begins and ends with video of my local WPLG Channel 10 Miami, FL.
But a blessed day it was. Thank you, Lord!

Chris Dunne is one of the best NOAA Weather DXers. Very well known the WTFDA. This is great stuff. Antenna?

I THINK it was fhe Xtreme Signal 8200 from solidsignal dot com . Or, it was the Antennacraft FM6 into an indoor amp with cable from it to the 2011. They rival each other on 162 MHz, but I believe it was the 8200.

What is the distance? By the way, it nearly sounds like a local. That is so stable.

About 870 miles, but I had other clearer stuff (lower freqs) that day, including the 300 watt NOAA out of Antlers OK. Maybe about six in all.
