- UK Railway FAST tilting trains at Lichfield Trent Valley station West Coast Mainline including Freight trains, Passenger trains and Local trains in June 2020! 🏴
A Weekday of West Coast services at Lichfield Trent Valley, heading around the South and North of the United Kingdom. Trains include:
- Avanti West Coast Pendolinos (of various liveries including 390119)
- West Midlands Railway Class 323s
- London Northwestern Railway Class 350s
- Direct Rail Services Class 88
- Freightliner Class 66.
Filmed on 23rd June 2020, Between 12.30 and 14.00.
This station will be soon be featured as part of Dovetail Games Train Simulator 2021: Birmingham Cross City Line Route DLC.
All videoing was taken whilst remaining within the UK Government guidelines of staying 1m+ from other people and with a face covering at all times. I travelled to this location via automobile and did not travel via public transport.

Another enjoyable video. Great location to see the tilting capabilities of the Pendolino. I remember the APT-P running through there on test in 1984. The APT was almost there, but it was rushed into service too early and the Government withdrew further funding of the project. It was deemed a failure even though it really wasn't..it just needed more time and development. If things had been different, the WCML would have had a fleet of tilting APT trains by the mid 1980's.
So tragic, It’s embarrassing that we just love to invent things in this country and dish it away to other countries, Just like the tilting technology that was sold to the Italians who used it in the Pendolino! Did you witness the replacement of 86, 87 and 90s in 2003 EJC?
StarlifeStudios Rail Videos Yes indeed I did. The WCML used to be so interesting with classes 81,85,86,87 and later class 90 on expresses, plus diesel locos often turned up on freight as well. My last ride behind a classic was 87004 "Britannia" between Stafford and Crewe in 2005. Class 87's were very capable and powerful machines with 5,000 HP available. They made light work of Shap and Beatock Banks often hauling 12 or 13 coaches. Yes, all the development done at RTC Derby on the tilting technology and suspension and breaking technologies were not lost. As you rightly point out, other countries including Italy utilised the new kit and technology. Same as the HST..a variant was used in Australia to form the XPT which is still running between Sydney and Melbourne today.

Hi Darren, I’ve just taken a look at the sectional appendix for this station and it shows 110 (non tilting) and 125 (EPS) for Tilting stock on all lines.

I can confirm there will be voyagers. Avanti are not operating a London to Chester/Holyhead service which means all voyagers are double sets running on London to Birmingham and Scotland. I stayed for two hours to try and see if there had had been a set swap but nothing turned up 😞

Hi Arnold! If there was one person I knew would pick up on the voyagers, I knew it would be you! The Super Voyagers just aren’t running on this route at the moment. I have a video coming up which includes Voyagers though 😃. Not Ipswich, I haven’t visited there yet but it’s on the list!

@@StarlifeStudios if you go to Nottingham you can see the 222s, 180s and the new 170s (the 170s are doing Robin Hood Line services so won’t be going to derby unfortunately. At Nottingham you also get HSTs so you would get pretty much everything a trainspotter needs (lol)

Up until February it was only 155 and 156 which had full branding now a lot more branding has started to appear at the rate of three or four a week. There is still a good mix around.
