Pere Marquette River Steelhead Chase Spring 2017

Went on a guided fly fishing trip for steelhead on the Pere Marquette River in northwest Michigan. Had a great day. This was the most exciting fight of the day for me.
As I drifted my flies, my guide pointed out a fish off of my right shoulder. I lifted my flies back to place them upstream of the fish and the fish took the egg fly. It also took me quite a ways downstream and wrapped my line around a log. Fortunately, I was able to get it out and land the fish.

What was your rod/line/leader/tippet/fly setup for that?

+Quickplaya 10' 7 wt rod, WF line, leader down to 3X tippet, indicator fishing with egg or nymph flies. Hope this helps!

What size nymph you using there like a 8? I keep snagging the bottom haven't caught a steelhead yet.. only trout.

+Quickplaya For nymph and egg flies I've used flies in the size 8 to 14 range. Snagging bottom is probably more a matter of how much weight you're using and where the indicator is set.
