      the 3.8 that was in the late 1980s Oldsmobile is one of the best v6's of the era.
      This actually was a good front driver that GM did... GM has built a lot of junk over the years but the Buick Olds Pontiac 3.0 and 3.8 engine wasn't one of them. It made. Good power and was pretty common to go 250,000+ miles (400,000km) with out any real mechanical problems.
      I thought the engine in this video car was the Chevrolet "iron Duke" 4-cylinder 2.5 l if so it is also a really good engine although it never made a lot of power but it was almost bulletproof, they put that engine in everything from small trucks to boats to forklifts generators and everything in between. in the United States I don't think you could get a Okds with a 4-cylinder only the lesser makes that were pretty much the same car but I am no expert on late model smog cars as the all suck from all brands.
      Remember this was the era that Toyota bragged about 200,000 miles and Honda Civics were burning oil by that mileage.
      What is shocking to me this car was in Russia when it was the USSR in the height of the Cold War. It was the enemies car.
      For the record I want a Lada but here in the states they are really rare and expensive.

    Pure physics:
    You begin with max torque out of the engine that results in X Newtons of traction force (those are limited also by tyre slippage, but let's assume it does not happen like in higher gears).
    So you have X total force the engine puts, now lets see what X is used for: rolling resistance (quite low value 5%), aerodynamic resistance (gets high at high speed, but at this low speed is also low value 10%), incline resistance (this is quite high if the mass is high and the incline is pronounced.. but here i'd say it's 5% out of max).. and the rest is used to accelerate the vehicle beating the inertia so it's m*a=Force.. this is the 80% of the X traction force left which is fixed and finite output from the engine..
    m*a=80% X so you lower the mass it gives better acceleration all the time for any vehicle.
    Sure at starting point there are other things involved with tyre slip, but after 2nd gear this particular engine is unable to break traction, so a rough estimate like above is 95% spot on. (i've ommited other factors like rotary acceleration of the roating parts like engine shafts wheels but those are pretty low to account for)

  • @TronixGuy93
    @TronixGuy93 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    There is a threshold. It's a tradeoff, like anything. Reduce weight increase acceleration, to a point. Reduce it enough you can increase top speed. Reduce it too much you can go so fast you might catch air in a light enough vehicle.

    Also, never drive a car who's windshield was just kicked out like that : you'll get eye fulls of glass shrapnel that fell into the cowling at speeds as low as 20 kmh. Trust me, i know. It'll even get around sunglasses 😣
