  • We sent out Maggi Kari Mee packets to our friends and family to try for the first time. What is it like for Americans who have never eaten Malaysian food before to try Malaysian Maggi curry noodles for the first time? They mostly liked it, but many definitely thought they were really spicy. Watch this video to see their reaction and feedback to this Malaysian favorite.

    In SE Asia, we eat this brand because it's cheap and easy to get at the mini marts and supermarkets. I believe we in SE Asia grow up consuming this (not on a *daily basis* though as it's a processed food and therefore *not healthy* ) as one of our favourite dishes.

    Signature noodles in Southeast Asia
    1) Malaysia
    a)Maggi Mee (owh they should try the Tomyam & Asam Laksa flavour)
    B) Mamee - I recommend the pulled noodles cup ie Mee Tarik Lontong flavour (endorsed by Chef Wan)
    2) Indonesia - Indomie & Mie Sedaap

    The delicious way to enjoy maggie noodles is by not dumping the seasoning with the noodles into the pot with a high volume of water,like most people do.By doing so, you will end up with a diluted broth that is tasteless. Cook the noodles first in the pot with all the side dishes you like to add, like veggies, fish balls, eggs etc. Once cooked, then drain out excess water, leaving only abt 3/4 volume for the gravy, them only add the seasoning sachet . Then the broth will be thicker and full of flavour.

    Rachel’s aunt Jan is right. You can chop up some white cabbage (add this first when the water boils, cook till slightly soft before adding the noodles and seasoning. The veg adds some sweetness to the soup) or onions, and you can also crack an egg (this is added last, cook till the whites are white and it’s ready, the yolk as whole doesnt have to be fully cooked till hard pale yellow, but that’s personal choice- some ppl prefer the egg to be all scrambled in the maggi mee soup)

    Maggi Mee was our college midnight snacks. Since we don't have a stove at the dorm so the only way was to pour hot water in a bucket (of course we wash it thoroughly first) and put the noodles with all kind of flavours in it. Just imagine how it taste like when you have asam laksa + curry + chicken flavours. It was a lot fun eating with friends especially during exam week when you're always extra hungry with all those midnight studying.😁😋

    It is spicy,you could say that a lot of our people just love to eat spicy foods.There are more traditional foods that are even spicier than the Maggie but I rarely eat too spicy food so I only put some 'sambal belacan' in my daily food,mainly rice cauze it's not too spicy but it is spicier than the Maggie tho so..gotta be careful to not put too much of it or else I'll ended up drinking few cups of water before I can even finish my food 😅😅

    the best way to eat this;
    1) saute some chopped onions and a little bit garlic until smell sweet.
    2) you boil them noodle
    3) once onions turn brown, you put maggie seasonings and stir until all combine. yeah all of it.
    4) add cooked noodle together with its hot noodle water to sauted onions pan. dont add to much water you dont wanna eat bland noodle. maybe 250-300ml per packet.
    5) enjoy!
