    Fixed the last fence!
When I was young, I made my memories
a thousand memories to live with evermore
Then, later on, I had my memories
I lived my memories a thousand times or more
But now I know, but now I really know,
If I have Hope, and something worth hoping for,
One hope is worth a thousand memories
Now THIS I Know, THIS I know.

Pardon my terrible naivety but I didn't really know of Sean Mooney but what a tremendous baritone. Noel, of course, we knew all too well as we were neighbours of his across the road at 36 Sandymount Avenue and as kids we had little hesitation in adopting him as our local Santa Claus even knocking on the door of the house to let him know what he wanted for Christmas. He took it in great part. He also knew my great aunt Della O'Donohue who had spells managing the bars at the Royal and the Olympia. Each Sunday after mass at Star of the Sea he always dropped her off up to Irishtown where she lived after returning from America. These people are all so very missed and the clips from this tribute are a great reminder of a wonderful and kinder era.

Thanks so much, TP . Yes, I remember your dad rented your house to James Clavell (Tai Pan and Shogun) while he was away in a series in UK. I also remember that he had the first No 1 hit in Irish with 'Mi Iomlan'! Dad and he did a lot of stuff together, but I just can't remember.
Dad told the story of seeing a youngster running a scam on his pals across Wilfield Road. He'd ring our bell and when Dad would answer, He'd say hello and walk away. Dad watched out of the front window and saw him take money from his pals after betting them that he knew where Santy lived! a truly more gentle time for sure.

@@pjnpurcell I always remember your father's green consul with the leather style roof. We were younger than you guys, but I think my eldest brother (Ralph) was friends with Drew. The Santa story is not just a general one, because I can see me now with my pals Grace & Colm on your doorstep as we conveyed our requests. 'Oh, alright, boys and girls. O'il do me best. Mind you be good now, though.' Thanks so much for mentioning 'Mi lomlan' which I'd did entirely know of, but it will have been part of the gaelic pantomime that the Abbey did every Christmas. Dad was the Prionsa six years running, famed for his great singing voice and his manly legs in tights which had the young ladies of the parish in a giggle. It was a great shame that in moving to London, Dad wasn't known for his variety side so he continued on as a straight actor. The Queen's Theatre, by the way, backed onto Trinity on Pearse Street, just a bit up from the fire station. The Abbey company had moved there on a temporary contract which ended up being fifteen years, I think. I'm Stephen, by the way.

Yes, I remember we used to go to the Pantos at the Queen's., but TP's song was also released as a single! Went to No.1 !
My brother Vic went to Marian, it was probably him you knew. Don't have a relative called Drew. Nice to talk to you. All the best.

@@pjnpurcell Hello Patrick. I'll have to go on a hunt for this No.1 as I'm very intrigued and also I'm currently writing 'My Daddy, the Actor', and account of my father's life and times. Yes, Marian College must be the connection as Ralph went there also. Btw, there's a Facebook group called 'If you remember Sandymount ...' and Noel is regularly celebrated there.

@@pjnpurcell I have found the record in question and the background is in this press report. Not a hit for T.P., it seems, but I reckon why you might think so is I'd be fairly sure that it was incorporated into that year's Panton at the Abbey and sung by T.P. there. "For a long time past young
people have complained that there have been few, if any, attempts to produce contemporary gaelic songs of the "pop" type. To-night the first "pop" record ever made in the Irish language by Irish musicians, singers, composers and lyricists was introduced by Gael-Linn. The project was first mooted in July last, when Gael-Linn approached a well "known exponent of contemporary jazz, 25-year-old Ian Henry. Ian got together with Nial Toibin of Radio Eireann, his brother Thomas from Cork and Eoghan O Tuairisc who has won major Oireachtas awards from novel poetry and drama and who has recently given up his work as a schoolmaster in Ballinasloe to devote all his time to writing. Composer Jim Bolger who plays the bassoon in the R.E. Light Orchestra and two others who prefer to remain anonymous, were also brought in Then in the best "Tin Pan Alley' tradition they assembled once a week from September around the piano and together worked out the music and words Are they on a winner? The first record is Siuinin (Little Joan), a waltz and "Mi lomlan" (A Whole Month ) in "medium latin-rock" rhythm. Vocalists are Sonnv Knowles and Johnny Christopher. Both professional singer and instrumentalists, who are member of Neil Kearns band. It is a pleasant disc and with luck it should eo well. Gael-Linn deserve to break-through into the "DOR" market. With a good rhythm and something unusual about the singing, language is no barrier to the international 'top twenty".
