- ESPN offered this Opening Day telecast from Chavez Ravine as the Arizona Diamondbacks and their newly-acquired ace, Randy Johnson, visit the Los Angeles Dodgers and their newly-acquired ace, Kevin Brown. If people going into this thought they'd get a pitchers' duel, well, things didn't quite work out that way.
I was 17 years old when this game was played and was a die hard Padres fan growing up in San Diego. I was absolutely heartbroken that we had lost Kevin Brown during the offseason, but I knew the Padres were not going to be able to offer him the kind of money he would make on the FA market. I was glued to my TV for this game back in 1999 because I wanted to see Brown and Johnson lock horns again.

Sheffield was my absolute favorite growing up and I love being able to go back and watch these games. But I will say the walk to Sheffield right before mondesi at the walk-off, was probably strike 3 haha. He caught a huge break

a legendary game! I thought that Dodgers were going to win the division that year based upon that game. How my teenage imagination can go south.
Also, do you have the second game of this opening series? That was the game that Chan Ho Park beaned Matt Williams leading to the brawl.
