Timeless, you can pass it down to 10 successive generations for about 250 years in the future, yet it will still sound so refreshing and inspiring. Well, why not when its coming from the eighth wonder of the world, the compositional magic of maestro Pat Metheny.

Pat Metheny is one of the greatest jazz guitarist ever IMHO. I am so happy you got "introduced" to jazz with Pat Metheny.

I discovered the Pat Metheny Group with a tune called «First Circle». That was in the 80s. 40 years later, that tune shatters me every time I listen to it. Lets me empty of everything but unaltered JOY. It's been more than 40 years of just joy. I only regret that I will never see them play again.
Minuano is also a masterwork. A roller-coaster in emotions. This is the Pat Metheny Group : they make you find that incredibly complex music «easy». The unsung hero of the band is Steve Rodby, «The Bassist».

Verdy, this was amazing that you reacted to this song!! Pat Metheny is not only considered one of the greatest jazz musicians but one of the greatest guitarists of all time. All the musicians in his band are fantastic, but his musical association with his keyboardist, the late Lyle Mays, produced years of great performances. I was fortunate to have seen the Pat Metheny Group four times, three times at the concert hall at The University of Texas and once at the Austin Music Hall. The person who recommended this to you should be complimented!!!!

The Way Up was most likely the best concert I have seen. I was just peaking with listening to the CD over and over and over and then I saw them perform it. Part 2 solo area was unlike anything I could ever hope to see on this planet. In Metheny's home town of Kansas City (close to Lees Summit) and I swear during that Way Up part 2 solo, at different times parts of the crowd wouldn't be able to take it and just go wild. It was amazing, but reaction videos to that may be challenging as I started getting into it after the tenth listen and ever since. First timers of The Way Up may be flumoxed but that's where the good music is when you know it's there and then you 'get it'. I think anyway. Quite a rant just because I saw the Way Up thoughts. Ha ha.

I’ve known Pat Metheny since 1977 .. I ❤️ LOVED your reaction to the music and the musicians. Their Keyboards musician ( Lyle Mays - RIP ) played many sounds you were unaware of on his synthesizers. Lyle was a genius and wrote music along with Pat. There will never be another PMG - Pat Metheny Group without Lyle Mays

I'd always loved this piece. Back in the 90's I was living in Chicago and Pat Metheny Group was playing The Chicago Theater. I didn't have a ticket, but I walked by the theatre, nonetheless. It was kismet that as i was passing by, the theater doors were open and Minuano (Six Eight) was starting. The ushers allowed me to walk in, unobstructed, and I was able to see this masterpiece played live! Truly memorable.

The Pat Metheny Group…in all of its variations has been fhe finest ensemble of musicians to ever take the stage in my lifetime. 20+ Grammies don’t lie. And Pat is so far beyond all other guitarists in terms of phrasing, intonation and sheer skill that he simultaneously makes those of us who try to play both inspired and hopeless to ever achieve anything approaching his skill.

Pat Metheny is one of the greatest guitarists on the planet, but many people are not aware of him because he generally releases material in jazz/jazz-fusion genres. I saw him perform live on Halloween at an old theater in Salem, MA in the mid 80's and it was a phenomenal show.

This era of Metheny always grabs me deep down. The chords ,the music, the playing but its the sound of the people singing the melody that gets me. Nice to see a young person discover this piece as for me it transcends jazz. If we did another Golden record to represent humankind for another Voyager this should be on it..

Pat Metheny doesn't sell 100's of millions of albums, but some of the greatest musicians on the planet line up to play with him, and the awards speak for themselves. There is only one Pat Metheny, you can't compare his genius and his work ethic to anyone else. Part of the attraction to him is how low key he is. Out of hundreds of others, this too is a great introductory piece.

It's great to see younger people exploring and getting moved by music beyond their normal genres of interest!
I was mostly a rock and roll fan when someone gave me a ticket to a PMG concert on my college campus in the early 1980's. It was life changing for me. I was in like the mob. Seen PMG in concert about 10 times over the years (and PM in trios as well) and I wish it had been triple that many times. For about 5 yrs after discovering PM, few in the circles I ran around in knew about him. Then on a first date, when I pressed the cassette player play button and my date said "That is As Fall Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls", I was gobsmacked. Fast forward 35 years later, two kids, a few dogs and a few cats and that same "date" and I will be going to see PM this summer at the Kennedy Center. It may sound silly, but most everything I am grateful for in my life has flowed from knowing the music of Pat Metheny (and Lyle Mays).

I've seen the Pat Metheny Group perform three times, now, over the last 40 years, and it's always memorable. Pat and keyboardist Lyle Mays (now deceased) composed the songs so that all the players mesh so well, with fantastic attention-to-detail (like the whistling and the vocals). I've never seen this particular live performance, so it was a real pleasure to watch. If I were to recommend another cut, check out "San Lorenzo" on his live "Travels" album or the song "Letter From Home." Or "First Circle." Or...

First caught up with Pat live while he was touring his breakout album in the 70’s called, “American Garage.” This is one of a few thousand shows Pat’s musical journey has taken him, to every corner of the globe. The passing of pianist Lyle Mays was a loss for music lovers everywhere. His style and compositions are uniquely his own creation. Also caught the two of them along with bassist, Jaco Pastorious backing Joni Mitchell on tour back then. All masters in their own rights. Lots to get to here.

I heard in an interview to Pedro Aznar, an Argentinean musician who was in the group by the time of this composition that Pat one day appeared with a lot of written music especially composed for him taking into account he is Argentinean. This song has the rythm of the Argentinesn chacarera. For me it' s a symbol of the union of Angloi- Argentinean culture and in this country there ar3 beings with great light that one day will serve to illuminate the rest if the World. I think this is an announce of it.

Wow. A Metheny reaction. You are brilliant young woman. I first saw Metheny and Lyle Mays (his piano player, since deceased, sadly) in 1980 at a jass festival in Toronto, an array of guitars all tuned differently. Oodles of Grammys since, the premier jazz fusion guitarist of this generation, young lady. You've entered Metheny World! Explore further. The first song he played in 1980 that night was 'San Lorenzo' ... and I've never forgotten. I would that to be your next listen. Be well, keep extending your love for music. It's the language of life. /M.

Nice! This is an oft overlooked genre and I’m glad you are learning about it. When I got my first stereo in 1978, I asked a family friend about what kind of music I should buy. He suggested a couple of greatest hits albums (Chicago, BTO, Doobies), but mentioned he was taking classes at the University of Miami Music School, and I should come and see Pat Metheny and the Jazz Ensemble there. I never made it to see the live shows with him, but I did remember and found records later and dallied quite a bit with a wide range of jazz and fusion artists.

Metheny-Mays is such a great synergy that will never happen in the world of music again. Unfortunately...

Verdy, you should react to "First Circle" from Pat Metheny Group. And as it seems you love rock music, you could react to the amazing "Root of Coincidence" from Metheny. He had the Grammy for this incredible instrumental rock performance.

You really should check out the recorded version. It contains a mind-blowing intro missing from this live version.

Verdi, I like your reaction videos so much 🎶😊🙏 My heart opens, when I see, how you live the music. I really enjoy experiencing the music, which I love, "new" with you 🥰 I also love, that you listen to so many different styles of Music 👍Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays are one of my faves in Jazz Music. I'm a musician myself. I am very happy when I see, how much joy you have in good music. Then I also have hope, that good music will continue to be appreciated in the future 😉 Thank you very much for your channel and your videos. I would be very happy, if you would make a reaction video for Opeth-Hope Leaves (live at the Royal Albert Hall) and Porcupine Tree-Way out of here (live at Tilburg).
    Greetings from Germany 🤗
