Good Gravy Review, Holiday World Vekoma Family Boomerang | A Perfect Fit!

- Good Gravy is the new-for-2024 roller coaster at Holiday World. This was a much-needed family coaster for this Indiana theme park. This was given an adorable and corny Thanksgiving theme, as you walk through Grandma's house and whiz past oversized kitchen items. Then this coaster is also notable for being the first Vekoma family boomerang in the United States.

What this ride doesn't fix is the absurd hike up to Thunderbird, and the swing ride at the top of the hill. I saw a couple families on the day I visited that wanted to ride either, but didn't want to contend with that hill. Having GG's entry/exit a little higher up the hill would trick families to getting halfway up there.
The thing was, the entry building for Good Gravy! was already constructed for Pilgrim's Plunge, so they wanted to construct the ride around that. I think that if the park ever constructs another large roller coaster, the entrance will likely be placed partway up that hill since that's the part of the park with the most room to expand.
Thunderbird really is in an awkward spot, but it's worth the trek.
What a treat this was to experience! It really feels like the park got back on the right course, after the awkwardly placed waterslide complex that did not last long and Thunderbird. Thunderbird is great and looks nice, but it sticks out like a sore thumb thematically. Good Gravy! is just exactly what this park needed in every regard!
This is a perfect fit.
The more well themed coasters we get, the better, so I'm ALL-IN on Good Gravy, even if it's just a family ride & cloned layout. Love it

I am loving what little I've seen of this. I have decided to wait to see it in person before seeing any other videos or comments about its layout and theming. Thank you! One tip if you're waiting to watch the video is that they do a boarding group system when the line gets long. You get those at the ride entrance when that happens.

This is my favorite Single Ride Video because of the turkey POV. I love the theming of this Thanksgiving ride. All that's needed is a Lions Victory (and a Cowboy's loss)

Maybe it was the angle, but it felt like the front row got steeper than others I've ridden.
The boarding pass system wasn’t in effect on my visit but it reminded me of the awful month or two of Covid operations at kings island and cedar point when boarding passes were used.
I was surprised to see it, but it did prevent the wait from getting super long and it wasn't in use all-day.
While the rides theming is undeniably adorable, I think snoopys (as someone who hasn’t ridden either) looks more exciting even if both are family coasters and don’t need to be that thrilling, good gravy looks quite slow in return run footage. Happy they finally got a family coaster though.
Snoopy's ride experience is a touch snappier. But Good Gravy is so perfectly done for Holiday World.

I like Good Gravy more, but Snoopy may have better Gs (going off clones I've ridden).

It was a good ride. Maybe an audio feature would take it to Big Bear Mountain heights.
Incidentally our First time on BBM there was no soundtrack and we were “ so so”. But at night it’s the Best!

Having never ridden nor seen a family boomerang, I guess I was expecting more from it. It felt like a junior coaster, a step below a family coaster. I rode front & back, and felt not even a tiny bit of force. The theming in the queue was my favorite part of the ride. I went there first, and had a very short wait, then the line quickly grew. Midday, the line was down to 20 minutes, so I did it again, then the line got much longer, and boarding groups were brought back. Maybe the line got short late, but I didn't check. It does fill a gap in the lineup, but given the massive attendance that Holiday World draws, a low capacity ride seems like an odd choice. It has seemed to me that people who go to Holiday World don't mind long lines. I rarely have had issues with lines at Kings Island, so I think a low capacity ride fits better there.
I got on Rookie Racer at Six Flags St Louis the next day. That one, on the other hand, I was blown away by. Airtime in the back row, and I even greyed out slightly on the helix. That's a junior coaster that felt like a family coaster, and I loved it. I kept going back for more laps.
These family boomerangs as a whole are light on force. It just stinks big parks are adding them where the capacity can be problematic.

How fun would it be if the ride was called Schizo and caught a lift on the spike and went all the way to very top so then did reverse at crazy speeds LOL!

I've noticed a pattern with Holiday World. They built Thunderbird nine years after The Voyage opened, and now they build this nine years after Thunderbird opened up. So could that mean that their next new roller coaster will open nine years from now?
Not necessarily. They built Raven and Legend with smaller gaps.
My one criticism is that they didn't go with one of those Family Boomerang/STC combos like Tripsdrill or Emerald Park, catering to both families and thrill-seekers at the same time. Other than that it was a pretty good addition.
@@AceAviations2 As much as I'd love to see that too, it's probably way out of budget. They could have gone for dueling family boomerangs to up capacity and include a racing aspect, but I guess that was too expensive as well.
I wish they got an invert with it, but the family coaster was the bigger need.
How would you compare this ride to Howler, also at the same park?
This is a family coaster versus a kiddie coaster.

I want my mom to visit Holiday World for the wet park since she loves waterslides but hates coasters. (not to be confused with water roller coasters; the dry park coasters that have dry coaster track that splashes into water, like Arrow's 1st tubular steel coaster of Mattaerhorn Bobsled coaster) from Waterslides with water jets (or conveyor belts) which are also called "water coasters", but this term being more official without the prefix "roller".
In any case: Holiday world has THREE "water coasters" (as opposed to "water roller coasters") in their wet park. As for dry coasters: The only one she might like is "Good Gravy." She's 81 and it's up to her but I'm not holding my breath. What do you think I ought to do? In any case: thanks for posting!

I may not love that they went with a Thanksgiving theme (that "section" effectively has 3 sections now. There are other holidays! If we can't get Santa's Sleigh or Glacier Gulch (even if the latter is essentially Voyage) I need my humourous April Fools Day coaster for something in a similar veign to Good Gravy but different holiday) but it does look to be a good addition that will be good for general audiances.
I think their next coaster installation is going to be in 4th of July where the river rapids ride was
@@TriscuitBiscuit2000 Hopefully that means a revitalization of that area. It resembles the midway of a church carnival without that anchor attraction of a rapids ride (although those flyers being from Bish Rocco is pretty cool).
@@urbex_coasters I just wonder what they could add. I’d love to see a chance hyper gtx!! With their relationships/connections with B&M and Vekoma I wouldn’t mine a new gen vekoma thrill coaster or a b&m invert
@@urbex_coasters I would love to see an intamin but their relationship with them is rocky bc of pilgrims plunge/giraffica. An rmc raptor could be fitting too.
I wish they could expand Christmas, but it's pretty boxed in.
