- Kids love splashing around in giant wave pools at water parks across the country. It’s almost like swimming in an ocean, but these giants waves are machine made, created by tens of thousands of gallons of water being pumped into the pool. How can you stay safe in a wave pool? If you can’t swim, or if you’re a weak swimmer, always wear a life jacket. Don’t use inflatable rafts, as you can easily fall into the water. Children should always be supervised by adults. #InsideEdition

What if you wear a life-jacket? I can swim, and I struggled in one of those things. I'm not a very strong swimmer, but as the lifeguard said, the waves can easily go over the heads of strong swimmers.

In my country, they set up tubes and also floaties and life jackets and also, in the waterpark they dont make it too deep

I got stuck in the deep end of a wavepool when the waves started. I looked at the lifeguard and waved at him to get his attention. He turned and looked at me, my head submerging under the water. What did he do, you ask? Did he bravely jump in to rescue me? Well, he did even better! He smiled and gave me a thumbs up. And then looked away.

I was in a hotel in Florida. My family and I went outside to swim. While my dad was spraying sunscreen on my moms back, I went in the water. I was running in, and didn’t realize I was in 5ft deep water. I was struggling to get to the surface (I was like 3ft tall) there was a guy next to me in the water calling for someone to help me, he was like” Hey your kid is drowning” and didn’t even help me. The lifeguard just sat there watching me until my mom came and got me, I know it’s my fault for going in that deep, but I almost died because of a lifeguard not jumping in to save me.

The wave got over my head, and I got back up to breathe and wipe my eyes, but then another wave comes and I just couldn't do anything honestly. I was trying to get the attention of a life guard, but there were just way too many people in the pool and it was nearly impossible to get their attention. I would have drowned if it wasn't for a good friend that pulled me back to the start of the wave pool. I'm so thankful even to this day.
I have almost drowned at a wave pool twice, though thank goodness my older brother was there with me because he, in my eyes, saved my life. I wouldn't have been able to get back up because the waves just kept coming and wouldn't stop.

I'm a lifeguard at a wavepool. That's literally what we force weak swimmers to do. It may sound lazy, but it's better to prevent the drowning than to Actually pull someone out.

I have saved countless kids in the deep end of the wave pool at cowabunga bay in Las Vegas. I've seen them struggling and either swam to lift them or pulled them onto a tube I had. Luckily they have added safety features this year after two near drownings in 3 seasons that caused brain damage. Parents also need to take responsibility for their kids and always be nearby in the wave pool, esp in the deep end. Even good swimmers can struggle if it's a strong wave cycle.

I was in galveston this past summer when i got knocked down by a wave, but i was in the ocean not a wave pool, although i have almost gone under in one, also those waves were powerful enough to push me back to the shallows, i found out how hard it was to swim in waves that big, i feel safer in the ocean than a wave pool because at least in the ocean the waves start out small and gradually get larger the deeper you go, in a wave pool however the waves stay large even in the shallow end, so i can see how hard it is for someone to stay above water, the reason that wave knocked me down was because I wanted to know if i could handle bigger waves, let’s just say i learned a good lesson about huge waves, if a wave knocks you down try to get up quickly before another one tries to push you under, also that lifeguard is awesome for saving those people

My mom was a lifeguard when she was a teen. We had gone to a water park with a wave pool when I was around age 6. I had gone a little too far into the water and started drowning. There were too many tubes around me so I wasn't easily spotted. Thankfully, my mom was nearby and grabbed me out of the water and carried me to shallow water. If it wasn't for my mom, I would have possibly died.

At my water park they make all kids wear a wrist band that shows you took a swimming test before entering any of the high water attractions. Kids were not allowed to go into the wave pool unless they had a band

Caroline is s great life guard. Every time I’ve went to a water park with a wave pool, the life guards were lazy and acted like they didn’t see any issues if they were happening. Those who were there to enjoy the water park always came to rescue.

The same happened to me. I am a good swimmer, but was a bit tired, a lot tired and couldn't get a good breath to make it to the shore. Luckily the wave machine stopped and I got to an area I could walk. So yeah...it can happen that fast.
The trick to swimming in deep water is staying calm. I'm on a swim team and I swim in 13 feet. It's easy and fun to swim in deep water as long as you know how long you can hold your breath. Practice in shallower water before going to the deep end.
I almost drowned in 5 feet and I had fallen out of my inflatable raft. But thank God my sister saved me just as I was about to lose my breath.

Thank you for the reminder...I plan on taking my kids next week and this really shed some light on how on how dangerous these wave pools or just the waterparks can be. It's hard just taking them for 4 hours to a community pool that's only a few feet deep. What an eye opener. Any more suggestions on how to play it a little more safe please let me know. Thank you

At Great Wolf Lodge, I swam to the very front of the wave pool and struggled to stay above the waves. Every time I rubbed my eyes to see clearly and take a breath, water swept over me. I was very weak and thought I was done for. Then, a lifeguard saw me and saved me. It was pretty crazy.

I went to six flags and there was a 6 year old with no floaty and there were really big waves and he was drowning he was near me I saw him under water and I had to save him. His mom thanked me and the life guard. I saved the day :D ❤

They can get pretty dangerous. Waterparks can be big and scary for a kid, when i went to Summer Waves in Georgia(totally recommend) a little boy around the age of 3 lost his parents so he stuck around with us until we found them. And when we were in the wave pool i was on a float and the waves go so big and went so far that i accidentally ran over a little girl that looked about the age of 8😟she was ok but parents should really keep an i on their kids
Yeah, you can easily fall out of your tube and get caught between people and tubes with the waves going on. If i'm using a tube i'll wear a lifevest also, makes it way safer.

When I swam at the Typhoon Lagoon surf pool in Summer of 2019, I felt like I was going to drown because the pool is so deep, it’s really really hard to stay afloat, and to make it even worse, there is so many people around you, you can get hit so easily, without even knowing when a wave comes by in those packed wave pools

I went to a pool in San Diego with my little brother and the pool was 3 - 5 ft tall. My brother and i were swimming all the way to the 5ft pool and then out of no where, he started wrestling me. I started drowning and he went on my back which cause me to lean over. He started drowning as well and i had to call out my uncles name to save us which he did save us. It was the scariest moment in my life.

Lol I've been to Whirlin Waters probably about a hundred times (used to get annual passes as a child) and it's suprising seeing how unsafe the wavepool actually was. It was one of my favorite attractions there. Thank God no one has died though. It would be depressing to find out the place of your childhood memories was someone else's grave.

I always appreciated great wolf lodge for having a wave pool right in the middle of being intense and safe as a kid, that was my only experience with one as a kid and my mom made me be careful.

I don't like the term "strong swimmer" because one of my best friends was invited to my birthday party but since she's "smaller" than everyone else her mom said that she's not a strong swimmer so we have to keep her in the shallow end. I forgot that she said that and me and the other girls swam in the deep end and that girl was trying to follow along too but my mom told her that her mom said to stay in the shallow end. She started crying because she was embarrassed. Everyone tried to comfort her and eventually, my mom said she can go in the deep end but she has to be careful. After the party, my grandmother started making fun of her because she was crying. She said in a mocking voice "I wanna go in the deep end" "It's embarrassing" and then she said, "Is she a crier?" This made me so mad to think a woman way older than her is mocking and making fun of her just because she was crying. I later told the girl what happened and she started crying.

I remember being in a wave pool one time and I got caught on strong waves. I was walking back to the shallow end, and every couple of seconds, a wave pulled me under and I was having trouble breathing. And mind you, I’m a poor swimmer. After a few minutes, thankfully I got out.

My friend, her brother and I were each in a inflatable tube at a wave pool. We hooked onto each other by grabbing the handles, and we went too deep. We couldn’t swim away cuz we were on the tubes and even if we had let go, it would be hard to swim back with all those people. The lifeguard above was watching and laughing, although he was keeping an eye on us. When the waves started, my friends and I got scared cuz we kept going closer. Then, my friend’s brother pushed my friend and I deeper in so he could swim away and use us as a boost (rudeeee). Then I got scared and pushed my friend really deep in, and her brother pulled me in. She flipped over but was able to get back on her tube. We were laughing, but also worried (ik, mix of emotions). It was fun,but scary, lol.
I did this with friends at ocean breeze, we looked like Cocoa Puffs floating in water lmaooo

I can’t swim and when a wave comes in just hold my breath and go underwater letting the wave just past above me like nothing happened
I dont like wave Pools even when i started swimming at 4
My little brother fell 5 feet into the pool and almost drowned. He was stuck down there for a good minute and i was scared.this happened around when he was 4 or 5.thank goodness my auntie or someone else got him before he drowned

Piano tiles 2 Gamer_ Girl bring a life jacket. And use a raft just incase. I nearly drowned in one and no one saved me. The waves just pushed me to shore.

Why do you think lifeguards exist
Story:I was on a donut in a wave pool and the donut flipped and I was stuck and I started drowning. It was on my friend’s birthday... edit: none of the lifeguards saved me.

What do you mean? How were you stuck? Could n't you just swim out from under it
this is more then just whether a kid can swim. I took swimming lessons every year growing up and swam in the ocean above my head every summer as a kid, and I almost drowned in on of these when I was 12. also none of the lifeguards noticed, it was so crowded with tubes and people everywhere
