First public wavepool in the Netherlands - RIF010 test session before opening

- First impression of the new wavepool in Rotterdam. A true unique urban surfing experience in The Netherlands. As a country with not a lot of good waves but loads of surfers this is a very welcome through the flat days that we get.
We got the novelty of trying the different settings in the middle of the city of Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Rif010 made an artificial wavepool for surfers and other watersports to enjoy the feeling of riding waves and learning how to surf but in a more controlled environment.
PS: After a few comments I wanted to add: A public wavepool in The Netherlands doesn't mean for free. It means publicly available to whoever wants to book session.
Sessions can be booked via rif010.nl

Really helpful, thanks man 🤙
Subbed
I had my first sesh yesterday and it was so much better than it looks like on the videos. Plenty of power. I agree that the 1,7 setting is better than the 2 meter setting. I’ll definitely be back for more!
Yeah I also felt that the waves felt so much better than they looked. What board did you surf?
How much was it :) ?
how is that 2m :D
Looking forward to sipping a beer at one of those bars, watching you guys ride the waves
I like how you practice what you preach! (The online surf coach lessons, turning, compressing, looking etc) Nice!
Jep. Always learning with the Surf Academy Pro information & techniques. Will use this wavepool for some in-depth technique analysis as well.
Going to train my backside. Thanks for the usefull info about this wave.
Good to hear man! This wave is definitely better for the goofy footers
Public wavepool is insane idea !! holly dam its freakin cool !!!!
If with this you mean its free, its not 😬, cool nonetheless!
But is cool anyway..anyone is able to go
Did my share of time on the US East coast and I know how desperate for waves you can get. Having something like this would have been a godsend.
The Urban twist is brilliant. 🚀🚀🚀
Looks so fun 🔥
It is!
I recall being surprised to see a surf shop in Amsterdam 30 years ago.
well on par with the quality of the natural waves we have here in the NLD!
lol yes it's shit.
Stoked for my first sesh there 💪🏼
When are you going?
@@surfcoachsaturday 13th 😊
@@AronRoversniiice! Excited to hear how your experience will be
Cool! But the person that has been sharing the wave size with you must have a very disappointed girlfriend
😂
so cool!!!
Thanks Nicole. Appreciate the support 🙏
Great stuff!!
Thanks Emi. You in the area? Going to try it out yourself?
@@surfcoach no unfortunately I'm not near there, I live in the south of Sardinia, I have a friend who lives nearby, he says he plans to try it.. subs and like!
Appreciate it ❤️
YEEAAH boooiii!!! 👏🏼🤙🏼

Crazy. Would angling the bottom of the wavepool to form an angled bank make the wave run longer?
Yes this would change the wave but not neccesarily for the better
Sick!!
Thanks guys
Hey thanks for the good video. What kind of board are you riding? I’m still debating which board to use for the expert session, either a 6.1 fish with 40l and a flat rocker or my 5.11 performance shortboard with 30l. I want to use my shortboard but I think the wave might not be powerful enough for it.What do you think?:)
Surfed it yesterday and there’s plenty of power! Any way there is time to switch boards quickly if you leave one on the “beach”.
Thanks for the compliment. I rode my Lost Sub driver2.0 there. Loved it but will try a bigger board as well. Definitely take a bigger board first. It has more power then it looks and you can always switch during the session if wanted.
@@frankioAll Right, thanks :)
@@surfcoach Thank you :)
@@surfcoach What dims is your Sub Driver 2.O?
Do you have info on the pricing for renting boards and wetsuits?
All info on rif010.nl
Now for some big fans on the side hehe.
What's the song name @ 3:00
It looks like there’s too much water for it to break properly
They're testing with less water in the pool I heard as well. No idea how that went.
Holland waves are small and weak even when artificial lol
😂
The metric system doesn’t look Hawaiian . But still really fun and refreshing
I think 1 dutch meter is about 1 hawaiian foot 😂
Its a cool idea. Be nice if it was 2 blocks long, but its cool that its just in the middle of the city, and isn't too expensive to ride. I read its $38-60 dollars an hour. Although you could probably just spend that money on gas and drive to the coast, idk much about surf in Netherlands. Hopefully they can keep it clean. Also nice its powered by renewable energy.
Longer wasn't an option in this location unfortunately. Waves here are very inconsistent and not great. This is a welcome addition for many
Our waves are absolutely worthless, mushy wind waves all year round. Except for the odd couple days a year. I surfed Scheveningen from the pier back in the 90s when it was actually a good hollow clean 6-8 feet. Never seen that again. Was pretty gnarly with the currents.
Which lost model did u ride?
Subdriver 2.0
What setting would YOU choose to surf on?
Does the wave allow for more than one turn/trick?
@@indetrucksyess. You can see and hear this in the video. 160cm is three short turns or two big ones
my man, there's no way that 3rd setting is a 2M tall wave... 2M is like overhead when the surfer is standing in the bottom, that's a 50 cm wave at best
I was thinking the same lol, how can he be taller than a 2m wave while croaching?
Agreed. This is the information I got told. Seems like they measure maybe only take-off spot and top of wave till deepest trough... Seems optimistic at least haha
This is marketing for kooks 😂
Don’t get me wrong I like the idea and the video
@@surfcoach yeah probably thats how they measure it, like from the bottom (ground) to the top of the wave
Itz Killah Irieeee
Netherlands needs a proper wave pool 8foot barrels. Minimum.
Agreed 🤝
You surf in storm water?
Filtration system is in place
Acid drop off the wall into the wave🤙🏽
Just been done by Italo Ferreira yesterday 🥳
Gaan ze het n beetje mooi aankleden ? Die hekken aan de straat zijn echt lelijk. Die houten wand ziet er heel goedkoop uit.
Het is midden in de binnenstad, dus 'curb appeal' is belangrijk.
The waves look fun but they should bring a wavegarden project.
Why a wavegarden?
@@surfcoachleft and right, longer.
@@surfcoach way more power. Much cleaner wave.
Real surf experience
lol! this looks better than a wave garden.
😍😍😍😍👏👏👏💪💪👍
🎉🎉
Even my grandson Sem ( 11 ) rides the waves
can it break left?
Watch the video fully and you'll get your answer of why/how
No
Wel phat.....public
Das ist’ grande
It looks both cool and a nightmare
hahaha 2m looks more like a meter...
this
It doesnt look good tbh on video, deff gonna check it out myself before I pay for it. The wavepool of Korea for example looks way better as does the one in Australia.
But I want to be optimistic, this is the beginning, i believe there is enough animo to make this a thing in the Netherlands.
Korea was fun.
Kan ie ook naar links vr de goofys
hmmmmmmm better then nothing but.....
Man, wat denkt ge van een België-Nederland surfbattle 😅
Let's do it!
@@surfcoach 😁 zou zalig zijn
unreal you can go for a smoke in the cafe then get a wave unreal
Looks like a nice shit pond! What a score!
At 5:13, is it a joke?
Oh sorry, all of these projects are a joke.
It’s a bit shit.
Budget wavepool, just what you'd expect from the Dutch 😂
Looks dirty
It's clean. Constantly filtered.
It looks terrible compared to the rest of the current wavepool tech available
It's the same tech as PSSC. Potential is there
@@surfcoach looks horrible. Drop in 2 turns and that's it. That containing wall looks too small to generate a proper peak and even if it deed..... the depht maybe not enough. Went viral because of the urban setting nothing more. Would be very hard to justify the ubsrd amount of money one would have to pay to ride the smallest artificial wave. I cant foresee that potencial. Plus... 1,60 meter wave?? you must be joking
@@surfcoach but the pool is way too small so it won't work unfortunately
I"m so jealous. Wave parks are only for the rich. This is amazing.
it looks stupid.
You would make it look amazing though 🫶
I dont think this project will be a success.
That place looks horrible
Hating for no reason 😂😂
@@mattress9074 nah , I definitely have a reason , that mushy-ass 2 ft wave looks like dookie island to me , it’s almost embarrassing 😂
Nah.... that's a rubbish wave pool.
Not the first…. Get your facts right, don’t be an asshole - DYOR Bad Boekelo was there since ww2
what a waste of money
Video went totally viral ...... these Generation Z youngsters need to get a grip on life and a perspective on the world they are living in.
2 Million views is Viral ?
Show me all your non-viral video's with those normal 2 million views ❤️
The water looks ugly.....They should clean it up.....and put the sun...Ahah!!
Ik heb liever over schenvingen! Waneer woont ik in Nederlands no veel surfers waren! net als CA - too many kooks now!!!
