    A lot of the “Criticism” surrounding this show just seems to be in bad faith. People complain about how different it is from the comics or whatever turtles show they grew up on, yet every animated version of the turtles is different from the source material. The 2003 show is the most accurate but even it strays away from the comics pretty frequently. If we’re gonna say Rise is bad because it’s different, then every animated incarnation of the turtles is terrible because it’s different from the original Mirage comics. Also, a lot of criticism on this show isn’t an actual critique. It’s just people saying they don’t like that Raph is leader or Splinter is a bum, when that’s literally the point of the series. It’s about them RISING into their more traditional roles that we’re familiar with. It’s literally in the title of the show.

    I love how Rise showed how the swapping of the leadership role in the turtles fundamentally changed the characters.
    A Raph that became leader had to deal with his anger issues and become more responsible due to the pressure of having to be the big brother, whereas a Leo that isn't the leader feels like he adds nothing to the team and copes with that insecurity with his overconfident "face man" facade.

    Agree with all the points. 2003 fav, still love 2012 and 2003 and even 87, but Rise is just more sophisticated in animation, plot and development like most animation nowdays. Quality breeds more loyalty to brand no matter what the age. My kids give 87 a raised eyebrow but love Rise the most and 2012 too, and happily acknowledge 2003 as pretty darn good. As a kid I was thrilled for anything, but expectations have been raised!!

    I think the rise of the TMNT franchise literally gave new powers to our heroes. Setting new feets for versus battles with other characters, finally us turtle fans can us a new power feet against the negative turtle haters of the franchise.
    Honestly, regardless the turtles have always been able to hold their own. But it doesn't hurt to add on some new steps.
    Some of the most popular Heroes were upgraded throughout the years. For example, (Spider-Man had bionic web shooters before he had organic webs) (Superman was unable to fly in the beginning but just able to jump tall buildings in a single leap, now he can fly). These are just some examples, it's just a thought.

      I only just recently began to get into any part of the TMNT franchise, and it has been solely because of Rise. (I never thought I'd be a TMNT fan, maybe because I'd just never tried it due to preconceived notions.) And as a big fan of Teen Titans (in various iterations, including the comics) with an aversion to Teen Titans Go, I honestly compare it more to the 2003 show, but with more modern/sophisticated animation and storylines. The 03 TT had the capacity to be both really wacky and serious in its stories, much like Rise. Plus, I love the animation of the 2018 show!!

    I loved TMNT as a little kid, growing up with both '87 and '03 but now as an older teen have forgotten most of it. Rise has been getting me back into the fandom lately. Literally, I'm going crazy over. I might even go back and rewatch '87 and '03 for the nostalgia and watch 2012 for the first time (I left the fandom before that version came out). Still, it's doubtful any iteration of the turtles will eclipse Rise as my favorite version.

    When Rise first came out, im just ignoring it.

    Im regreting those decicion.
    One day im seeing the animation and decided to give it a try.
    And boy im loving it.
    Sure. Im also need some time to get used to rise at first.
    But then Im realize its not just the animation,
    The details, the character, the villains, and even the Turtles as character.
    How they interact with each other just as teenager, as family. Im loving it.
    It makes me understand why many people love Rise Donnie as a character.

    Rise of the TMNT is what I call....a Redemption arc DONE PERFECT....I remember when I got the news or a new TMNT show...I was like....WHY? why not continue 2012, I effing love 2012 still does is my favorite, that is coming from a 90's kid, who grow up drawing, playing the toys, watching all the episodes of the original 87 show and me also loving the films and the 2003 show....to that point 2012 was unbeatable as the best TMNT ever made....so I was like....worrying about a new show, one inspired by shows like Steven Universe and Teen Titan go, in the sense of 10 minutes long episodes....yeah not sure, then the designs where reveal and I loss all hope..........but then the show premiere and.....damn the animation dude that put the show over, but despite I liked the first 4 episodes, I drop the show, I remember watching a Nostalgia Critic video and agreeing with some of his criticism on this version and didn't watch the show again..........until one day a friend sent me a clip, he said, DUDE WATCH THIS....I watch it and my jaw drop to the floor, was a clip of Shredder vs the Turtles and....I have to pick up and watch the show and dude, I never go back again, this show go from okay.....to legit contender to BEST TMNT SHOW EVER MADE, I love Rise and anyone who is still on the fence of not want to watch it.........just drop that and go watch this show, my god is amazing.

    That was an awesome analysis! Really enjoyed watching it! Also love the premiere feature!
    Regarding the first two points:
    Rise's animation is god-tier, no question about it 🙌
    I've always loved the organic and natural way the characters are sometimes animated in the 2003 show though, and the extremely cool, creative moves they pull out in fighting sequences every now and again (lots of those in 'The Shredder Strikes Back pt. 2', 'Lone Raph And Cub', 'Still Nobody').
    Sure, it's not as fast-paced, smooth, dynamic or flashy as Rise's animation style, but to me it feels almost like I'm able to get a grasp of their body weight and the effort an attack takes because of this occasional authentic, lifelike aspect to their movements.
    Oh! And there's also these little extra-attention animations you mentioned like April putting down the wet floor sign which I adore! In 'The Shredder Strikes Back pt. 2' instead of simply kicking the door shut, it bounces back a few inches and Leo has to kick it again; the way Master Splinter picks up his walking stick or Raph doing a front flip and almost a three-point landing when jumping down the stairs.
    ....... yeah, as you can probably tell I'm super hyped for your '03 content!😅

    I’m a huge 2012 fan. To be honest, I’m not exactly the biggest fan of every other version of the turtles, but I can’t exactly form an opinion on them because I haven’t watched them like I did with 2012. But I can respect them for what they did. 1987 was the first TMNT show and has some charm to it, like the likable characters and environments. 2003 did amazing with the fight scenes (sometimes) and was much more dark than any of the other shows. I’m going to exclude 2012 because it’s been my favorite version of the turtles for a long time now. Rise had the best fight scenes out of any of the shows and sometimes had some sad moments, and I agree with you that the animation is spectacular. Like I said, 2012 is my favorite, but I respect every version of them because they all tried something different.

    Rise does have amazingly well animated action sequences, but I still love tmnt 2012 fights more, it’s just the realism to them. Plus the artwork and soundtrack. Like when Leo cuts shredders head, that one frame is something I will always remember.

    I appreciate your take on Rise. I grew up with both the '03 show and '12 show.
    The '12 version actually got me liking TMNT. But Holy Cow, Rise has spun me into a hyperfixation with the turtles.
    Leo across the board is my favorite. I am similar in how i present myself and some of my interests when it comes to previous versions.
    The Rise version was a bit grating at first with how irresponsible he is, but the movie made me fall in love with him and I've found that he kind of embodies the stuff I never really liked about myself. It's kind of therapeutic to see a character with similar internal insecurities.

      I didn't mind it. I felt it was like a modern day revamp of the episodic nature of TMNT 1987. We had two back to back long-form narrative shows with 2003 and 2012, so the switch-up was a little bit of a break from that for me.

    I LOVE rise of the tmnt. I didnt watch much of 87, i watched 03 and it was fine, the animation was just sorely lacking which took from the action for me so it felt really tame, probably a symptom of being a 4kids joint (or foxbox or whatever)
    2012 was my favorite despite the gap between seasons 2 and 3 being infuriating to me to this day. Like the krang had 3 months of being almost completely unopposed (ignoring the centuries theyd been on earth) how did they not just WIN?? Why were they drawing, quartering, and mutating humans and making fake newscasts for the rest of the country when the plan was to kill all humans anyway?? Season 4 was a complete waste and beyond that it was a mix. The show could have been streamlined to 3 seasons honestly.. anyway
    Rise came along and by the time it ended it was EVERYTHING i wanted from a tmnt series. Witty sense of humor, amazing animation that only got better, a...decent mix of plot episodes and "filler" (not a great balance particularly in season 1 but fine..) though some of my favorite episodes were filler like clothes don't make the turtle, lair games and snow day. The characters were interesting and engaging enough that they dont have to be "on" for me to like them. Just spending time with them was fun. In contrast to 2012 where there Always had to be something happening, a bad guy to fight, like we couldnt have more than 3 minutes of downtime with them because they just weren't all that interesting as people.
    03 was almost purely a drama with a little action sprinkled in, 2012 was an action drama with some comedy sprinkled in, but Rise was an action comedy with a little drama sprinkled in, and thats what i want from a premise as absurd as "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" take yourselves seriously enough that i care about the characters but you're not Dark Knight, you're Ninja Turtles. It's ok to be loose and silly.

      A common misconception is that TMNT 2012 ended with Season 5 while the creators have cited that the true ending is meant to be the Season 4 finale with Season 5 acting as an additional anthology series. I just like to throw that out there in hopes of people understanding and finding peace with the true ending of 2012. With that being said, I WISH WE COULD HAVE HAD RISE FOR A COUPLE MORE YEARS SO IT GOT THE CHANCE TO DO THE SAME! Yet and still, I am grateful for the time we had with the show as well as the movie providing a bow on the project as a whole!

    I LOVE RISE! It is my favourite version of the TMNT, it's actually the first time I've bothered to buy TMNT Merch or read the comics. Don't get me wrong, I love 03- I grew up with 03 but Rise is my VIBE! It is just on my wavelength and I adore it! I also enjoy the goofy 87 series, the 2012 version, even the 07, Turtles forever and Batman Vs TMNT movies, I would even have enjoyed getting to see the 07 film sequel.....I'm sad that got cancelled...HOWEVER- The Rise Movie was BEYOND EPIC! The animation was beautiful and the fight scenes were just...WOW! You know? Stunning, amazing, just completely awesome.
    I know that we all have our doubts when a reboot comes out, and hey, we don't HAVE to like it, BUT I think it's important that we give it a chance.
    For example, I was originally really excited for the 'bay-verse' movies, and Mutant Mayhem movies, but they just did nothing for me, however I am still going to give the Mutant Mayhem Tv Series a chance to win me over, we'll just have to wait and see.
    Hating a show before you've even given it a chance is stupid, but you don't have to magically agree that everything TMNT franchise related is amazing and perfect. I find both to be equally obnoxious.

    Let's face it guys, Rise did it better. We all know a few more seasons would have convinced the naysayers. Always said TMNT is not a franchise for gatekeepers, first show betrayed it enough that you can't come back from it. Peter Laird might want the Image run decanonized but in our heart we know, every TMNT is valid. IDW TMNT was WACK loved that the initial rivalry was between Leo and Donnie because Donnie didn't believe they are... REINCARNATED NINJA TEENAGERS. I mean that's the best part about TMNT it's so loose every new thing feel a little fresher than in other franchises.

    I avoided Rise cause exactly that, making Raph the oldest+leader, though I was also getting TMNT fatigue which was probably the main reason why I didn’t bother with Rise back then that I was still in the middle of trying to finish 2012.
    Though I have not watch it quite yet, but I’m curious how the show made Raph the leader and why they decided to give Leo the leader role when Raph is already one, is it because Rise Raph didn’t want to be the leader?, they seem to be comfortable having him be a leader

    • @TheEasternSiren
      @TheEasternSiren 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Apparently Splinter saw Leo’s potential in strategy after their fights in S2 and thus figured that he might be a better leader than Raph who jumps to things irrationally (thus Leo being the newly promoted leader)

      @Freezient 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheEasternSiren I see so Raph’s not very good at it, but still I don’t understand why Leo couldn’t just be the strategy guy without being the leader. In the original Leo usually relies on Donnie but Leo still leads.

    • @XueGYang

      @@Freezient Raph was the leader because in the rise story, he’s the oldest brother, and he felt responsible to take care of everyone. At the end of the series, literally while credits were rolling for the last episode, Splinter made Leo the leader.
      The reason for the change is throughout the whole show, the decisions Raph would make for the whole team is to bust through everything with force. Not really making a plan.
      For Leo, he always tries to think three steps ahead of the situations the turtles are in, and keeps his brothers in check whether their causing trouble, or if their feeling down and need a morale boost. Leo’s still goofy and wants to have his own fun, but when he needs to get serious, he’s usually giving the turtle that helps them overcome their obstacles.
      Rise Donnie although he’s smart and of course cares for his brothers, usually wants things to go his way and doesn’t always put his brothers first.

    I'd have to watch the 80s Turtles show for a more fair comparison but Rise is my second favorite TV version of the Turtles after 03-07. Rise had great: animation, action, comedy, & character interactions. It was nice for a more comedic change after 2 more serious incarnations. I do put Rise over the 2012 Turtles though as Rise is great to watch plus the 2012 Turtles had a lot of filler & the primary romances of: Donnie with April & Leo with Karai were really bad/cringey

    12:53 I would say the 2003 krang were better, especially oroku Saki who was a krang that became the shredder. He was intimidating, deadly in and out of suit, great personality, and was the only shredder to kill the turtles and rule the world. Now comes the tricky part because rise of the TMNT Krang has more abilities than the 2003 version digital not needing mutagen to create mutants they just need to infect them with their tentacles. So if that do that to the shredder it could be a problem, 19:27 even though these Turtles and every generation before them has done something different with the source material the poor of the source material still stayed the same in those characters except for the 87 Ninja Turtles, raph is the emotional hothead backbone of the group, Michelangelo so lazy expression slacker, Leo the noble and honorable older brother, Donatello geeky scientist of the group, they have added and taken away personally to theses turtles over the years but they still stand the same

    Just to comment on the animation of the Movie: comparing the animation of the show to the movie is actually a detriment to the show because some of the scenes of the movie (like the car chase with Hypno and Warren) were animated by a puppet animation studio, hense why some parts of the movie actually look kinda worse then the show.

    Okay being a 2012 fan I’m about to spill out my guts so if you like rottmnt read it or not. I have A LOT to say.
    First of all why is Raph so huge?? All 4 turtles are supposed to be shorter than humans. It happened in 1987, 2003, and 2012 but they’re just randomly taller now?? They’re turtles for crying out loud they’re animals. And if you think it was cause of mutation you’d be wrong. THEYRE TEENAGERS. they’ll grow taller within age. They’re 15. Okay now on to problem 2. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO SPLINTER. HES A LAZY RAT NOW. Splinter is a sensei not a couch rat. Also throughout all the series hes NEVER been grey. He’s a brown rat not a grey one. Problem 3. What’s with their weapons? It’s too dumb to be true. I get it’s a cartoon but it’s such a stupid idea. And Donnie’s staff? Bro wth. They live in the sewers. Where the heck are they getting technology.

    • @GeekilyOfficial
      @GeekilyOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      2012 is one of (if not) my favorite TMNT shows. All 4 Turtles aren't "supposed to be taller than humans." There's no law dictating their height. If that was such an issue, why not complain about 2012 making Splinter taller than the Turtles despite literally no other version of TMNT doing the same? With your words, Splinter is "supposed to be shorter than the turtles," so why does 2012 get a pass on that but Rise has an issue because Raph is "too tall??" Also, what do you mean Splinter had always been brown when the 2003 series (based on the original comics btw) ALSO has Splinter as a grey rat just like Rise does? Plus, this speaks to me that you didn't watch Rise given the fact that Splinter's character is explained and doesn't boil down to him being "just a lazy couch rat" by the end of the series. Same goes with their weapons, because each Rise Turtle has their classic weapons by the end of the story. And again, apply these same questions to the previous TMNT shows and do you still have a problem then? You ask where they get the tech for Donnie's bo staff in Rise, but why not ask where 2012 Donnie got the tech to make a mech suit taller than NYC buildings? Where did 2003 Donnie get the tech to build an underwater sub? Where did 1987 Donnie get the tech to build the blimp? These are non-factors that you can apply to every single version of TMNT and we give it the pass all the time. Again, 2012 is probably my favorite, but why would I act like changing things in Rise is a "problem" when there is something equal to what Rise did in almost every other version of the Ninja Turtles?

    • @annranti
      @annranti ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Dude, Raph is an alligator snapping turtle. And these are HUGE turtles. The fact that he is an alligator turtle can be understood by his spiked shell and skin, huge size and sharp tooth, which is a reference to the shape of the beak of the original turtle. And Draxum specifically mutated them for the war, why shouldn't they be tall? In the future, Raf would have been just a fucking TANK if he hadn't died lmao. Leo has grown over six feet in the future. (Btw same in 2012tmnt)
      SPOILER
      And Splinter's height is a reference to his grandfather, from whom he once left, because he did not want to follow the path of the clan and sacrifice his life for the sake of an ancient legend like his mother did, but in the end he came to the same as his grandfather. And Splinter is not just a couch potato! He has a huge backstory and character development. He's not lazy, he's depressed, imho.
      And Geekly has a point lmao
      But I also want to add that this version of Donnie is probably robbing bank machines (at the end of the first season, we briefly see S.H.E.L.L.D.O.N. hacking a bank machine, and in the episode with Baxter Stockboy, there is such a dialogue: "Raf: does he want to turn us in for money?! We are turtles, we live in the sewers! We don't have any money!" - "Donny: * counts a huge wad of money * yes yes we are poor as dirt."). And in the film, we also find out that all of Donny's equipment is "trademarked", which may also mean that he sells his equipment on the black market. Well, they also show us how Donnie rummages in a landfill and looks for spare parts for equipment. So this Donnie actually has a lot of explanation for why he has an advanced tech. Well, besides being a genius lol.

    I love this new version of the ninja turtles and I was sad that season 2 had many canceled episodes. But, the best thing that happened was that the series ended, because Nickelodeon is going down a dark path and I mean the path of WOKE.
    April is now black (although I admit that April from Rise is the best version of all). And without leaving aside the woke content hidden in some chapters like Snowday.
    If the series had continued little by little the fans would influence Nickelodeon to do things and make decisions out of context such as turning Leo gay. Something that would not contribute anything to the character and would damage the franchise with his ideology.
    Rise is the best TMNT series, and it was good while it lasted. But, it is better to leave it as is. Since we don't want said series to "Go Woke, Go Broke."

Furthermore, if you're going to believe what people say, then look for the experts, that is, the fans who know the whole history of the ninja turtles from head to toe, and you'll see that everything you're seeing is an agenda. I mean, this is just an agenda Woke.

I like the fights in rise, but the characters most of the time don’t even use their weapons as regular weapons, but I do like the mystic powers. I honestly feel like the newest TMNT show should’ve been called “Rise of the TMNT”, and rise should’ve been called “TMNT: Mystic Mayhem.
