Bloody hell, I remember my Dad taking me to a little game shop when I was a kid, he bought me E-swat and himself pro Boxing simulated (both on C64), that was the only time my Dad bought himself a game. Seeing it being played bought back lots of memories of my late Dad, almost bought a tear to my eye, but in a good way. Thanks for this Kim, I've rediscovered a lost memory of my Dad because of you, probably the best thing you could do for someone. Cheers
Oh my goodness, thank you sooooo much! I've been trying to remember the name of a game I had as a kid on the Amstrad and you featured it in this video - and it's not even a Codies sim game! Guardian Angel was tough as nails but so much fun!! :D
Advanced Lawnmower Simulator. I remember that game and the random praise / abuse you might receive, but I never managed to die playing it! Excellent videos, keep up the good work.
Quentin Reynolds my friend and I played it again recently, we both seemed to recall dying of an epileptic fit back in the day after hitting a stone! However we couldn't die again this time round!
So many great games and memories. My friend’s dad did the cover art for Treasure Island Dizzy and Rockstar Ate My Hamster. I’m actually playing at the Codemasters Christmas party this week. Going to nerd out on them massively
I remember owning a copy of Fruit Machine Simulator, found it very entertaining. Fortunately I didn't become a problem gambler! The £5 jackpot might be laughable now but it was nice to have in your pocket as an 11 year old back in 1988/9. I forgot until this video that I also had Pub Trivia Simulator too.
Decades later we have Goat Simulator, Shower with your Dad Simulator, Grass Simulator... ain't progress grand? :P It's interesting that 'Simulator' still denotes cheap, often nasty but sometimes cool games pumped out by bedroom developers.
Um...those modern games are all named in a tongue in cheek way. If you look all of these modern 'simulator' games the artwork, font etc parodies the Microsoft Flight Sim games. The codemasters games were not tongue in cheek. I don't think anyone was promoting Goat Simulator as a realistic portrayal of being a goat. As opposed to the blurb on the box of the old Codies games...
Jayfive276 Yes, I know, and I don't think I said anything that contradicts what you've written. That said, while the Codemasters games may not necessarily have been tongue in cheek, even by the standards of the day they clearly used the word 'Simulator' pretty loosely.
Farming simulators are enormous in Germany. They take it really seriously. You can get controllers that are the size and have all the buttons and levers of an actual tractor control console. So they can realistically simulate a tractor. And they spend thousands of DLC for new tractors. I'm not kidding.
I had the chance to meet the Oliver twins when I was interviewed for a job in their previous company and they are both incredibly funny :) they had a bag of tiny hats they were putting on cactuses and plants around the office and I got a job offer and a Dizzy pin by the end of the day :)
Advanced pinball simulator, I lost days of my life playing it back circa 88/89 as part of their 4 pack tape. So many great Codemasters games came on this 4 pack games. £2.99 or 3.99 well spent.
My fav Speccy gamedev company with that fantastic logo! Glad to see they are doing well nowadays! Wish them best luck and lots of interesting games to make.
Oh man, does this video take me back. I think I must have owned nearly all the early Codemasters games, though on my Amstrad. ATV and Fruit Machine were so good.
Some wonderful memories. I had many of these games, bought from my local corner newsagents for £1.99 or £2.99 Spent many hours playing ATV Simulator as well as Fruit Machine Simulator and Professional Ski Simulator.
I still remember the invincibility cheat on super tank. Type STANK during gameplay on the keyboard. Fruit machine is usually my go to game on the spectrum along with Fast food and Escape from the planet of the robot monsters. Zedex awesomeness👊
I'm not sure how you do it Kim, but you're so much in tune with my thoughts and nostalgia on all things retro. Whether it be references to "Viz character Eyes" to a love for fairly generic fruit machine games from CodeMasters. Don't ever stop what you're doing! I'm off to play "New Wheels John?" on my Speccy :)
I know these games are apart of the NOT SO UK history along with Hard House and Drum and Bass. But I never took them seriously as games, there more kind of time wasting apps. I'm glad you at least discuss them . Some of them look so basic that I might even be able to code one in mysleep and I do not do know how to do it. These games look about has hard to code as it is to edit a video in Windows Movie Maker.
Here is the last thing I made after ditching TH-cam as a useful platform to host good content. Take care bud. Always watching you from a far. Merry Xmas (Nes Manga) facebook.com/nesmangajackzoneentertainment/videos/1107091226005894/
Brilliant video Kim, would have loved to have seen the Amstrad games, but that's just me :) Professional ski simulator is good if you manage to stay on screen, if you don't your screwed, invisible skiing :)
Yeah I had their games for both my Amstrad CPC and Sinclair ZX Spectrum, but the CPC ones were better in my opinion, even if only graphically. My C64 owning friend was absolutely hopeless at playing Pro Ski Sim on my CPC, whereas I could get a long way in it, and usually without the course scrolling me out of view.
I think that Grand Prix on the CPC was the best version by far (even though I was a Speccy guy). My friend had it, but the rectangular cars just felt better controlled and clearer on the Amstrad. We called the orange car 'the sausage' for some reason.
Pro Golf Simul's theme perked my ears, then I found out it's the theme of the cartoon "Telly Bugs!" lol Reminds me how Turrican on C64 used a track from the Transformers animated movie soundtrack =)
I have all 3 Quattro carts for the NES published in the U.S. by Camerica. A shame we didn't get Quattro Arcade Coin-Ops, which included Advanced Pinball Simulator.
I finished 'By Fair Means Or Foul' back in the day. I mailed the 'victory message' to Superior Software, and I was one of 50 people to win a certificate signed by Barry McGuigan. Good times.....
A very nice trip down memory lane. I supported Codemasters by buying every game they made for my various computers over the years. I did enjoy some of the games you have shown, on my old speccy etc. One thing stuck in my craw with Codemasters though as the years paced by. When i reached the age of emulation at first in those early years, i could well understand the impact that using software that you had not purchased in emulators, may have repercussions on the industry. But Codemasters stance right up to today is to not allow their games to be played legally on emulators of such old computers like the ZX Spectrum etc. You can buy a digital version of games for the speccy from Codemasters on CD, but really why not allow those games to live again for those young gamers who never even saw a ZX Spectru. Many, many other software games manufacturers of yesteryear actually are happy to let their games be played on emulators. I would not buy any game now or in the future that is made by Codemasters after them having such a huge amount of money spent on their old games,
And here I thought the dubious use of the word "simulator" was a modern trend. The quality found here is still leagues above the crap on Steam today, though.
Larry Bundy Jr Yeah. There was a Super Stuntman Simulator (not to be confused with Super Stuntman). Codeys later re-released it with a new loading screen as Nitro Boost Challenge. Same game though.
Gremlin (Toyota Rally) and Accolade (Test Drive 2) were my favorites. They did not use the name "simulator", but offered some of the games that I had most fun with. PS: Maybe I did not know better.
I like Advanced Pinball Simulator. It's on Antstream Arcade. My high score is 20,785. I've never destroyed the red round thing in the upper left to end the game.
Advanced Pinball Sim is loosely Dizzy-themed, as you unlock the Village of Chigham, Zakks (I think) and the cloud castle. I never understood the significance of Chigham in Dizzy. Perhaps it's a pun on Chigwell.
Didn't they release the simulator games in 4-packs? I vaguely remember pub trivia and powerboat games along with another couple of games in a pack. Maybe on my Atari rather than Spectrum.
Pro ski simulator was funny. The screen scrolled at the same speed no matter where the player you controlled was. Good luck controlling it once you weren't on the screen anymore.
When I heard you say Snooker, I thought you said 'Snuka'. "Oh this is gonna be a game where we Super-Fly off the top of a cage. Then we go to a motel and murder our girlfriend."

BMX simulator had such a banging tune. I never ceased to be amazed at that 48k speaker pumping it out. Also a good game too!
The speech sample from Fruit Machine Simulator on the CPC is burned into my brain for the rest of my days. "CODEMASTERS.... FRUIT.MACHINE.SIMULATOR"
Oh my goodness, thank you sooooo much! I've been trying to remember the name of a game I had as a kid on the Amstrad and you featured it in this video - and it's not even a Codies sim game! Guardian Angel was tough as nails but so much fun!! :D
Loving the Peter Gabriel in the background

Why is this channel not more popular ? Kim your content and the work you put in to all your videos is amazing . Keep up the good work 😀
i do adore your retro gaming documentaries, they are all a wonderful trip down memory lane
I had 4 soccer simulators for the Amstrad! Looks pants now but at the time I loved it, I still actually remember the day I got it as well!
Another awesome video! My favourite "sim" was always BMX Simulator on the C64.
The Rik Mayall / Bottom inclusion was awesome too 👍
The more I watch your videos, the more I love this channel. Excellent work, Kim- I'm really enjoying today's marathon!
Great video Kim. Really bringing back a lot of good memories to this 'old' gamer. Keep up the good work.
advanced pinball simulator is easily the best pinball sim on the speccy. spent/wasted many hours/days on that one. nice vid...
Is that the Death Stalker theme at the end? Yay!
Epic vid. I genuinely haven't seen most of those games. Amazing,I didn't realise I had so many Cody games in my collection.

That said, while the Codemasters games may not necessarily have been tongue in cheek, even by the standards of the day they clearly used the word 'Simulator' pretty loosely.
There are serious simulator games with the Simulator moniker too. Like American Truck Simulator.
Farming simulators are enormous in Germany. They take it really seriously. You can get controllers that are the size and have all the buttons and levers of an actual tractor control console. So they can realistically simulate a tractor. And they spend thousands of DLC for new tractors. I'm not kidding.

Kim you're the bloody best.
the 4 quattro adventure tape was my fav codemasters dizzy, vampire, super robin hood & ghost hunters
Oh My God Oh My God! Thank you sooo much. So much of my childhood pocket money right here! ;)
Kim Justice drinking game: Every time she says "almighty" take a shot
Or “alas”.
Take a shot every time codemasters calls their games "absolutely brilliant" XD
Oh man, does this video take me back. I think I must have owned nearly all the early Codemasters games, though on my Amstrad. ATV and Fruit Machine were so good.

19:18 The music here from Pro Golf Simulator reminds me of the TV show "Telebugs". Well done for another great video, by the way.
I remember my mate getting professional ski simulator and we had a blast with it.

The snooker one was Steve Davis Snooker. Jimmy White's was only out on the Amiga and ST Atari
I asked for this video on a previous video. I LOVE YOU KIM!!!
I adore youtube. 2 guru's commenting on each others channels. A wonderful thing.
I think the BMX ones on the C64 are up there with Emlyn Hughes for the games we had the most fun with in 2 player.
Great work. I await the next video. Patiently. May you have a Happy Christmas or Holidays!
Pro Golf Simul's theme perked my ears, then I found out it's the theme of the cartoon "Telly Bugs!" lol

Advanced Pinball Simulator was great fun back in the day. Never could complete it though.
Excellent video.
It's actually worth entering the code in wrong on the C64 version of Pro Skateboarder.
5:55 where'd you get your nails done?? Nail Salon Simulator?
And here I thought the dubious use of the word "simulator" was a modern trend. The quality found here is still leagues above the crap on Steam today, though.
Goddammit, I'm addicted to this friggin channel. This channel is like crack cocaine.
LOL!
codemaster were my favourite developer on the c64, amazing games, Great video Kim 👍😎
Codemasters history video? Yes please Kim!
Love these type of videos, great nostalgia for me. More please!
ATV and Jet Ski sims were a fave of mine too.
Wasn't tere a Stuntman Simulator?
There was the almighty "Super Stunt Man", but it never had the Simulator suffix attached to it.
Kim Justice I had Super Stuntman! 🚁
Larry Bundy Jr Yeah. There was a Super Stuntman Simulator (not to be confused with Super Stuntman). Codeys later re-released it with a new loading screen as Nitro Boost Challenge. Same game though.
Kim Justice
Aah, thanks! I wonder if they changed the name on the box :S
Absolutely Brilliant!!!
Btw, Grand Prix Simulator 2 was such an improvement over the first one, love that game!
another great video kim. keep em coming, love everything you do
I got all these Codemasters games on the on Commordore64 and spectrum 128k.and a great video Kim
Gremlin (Toyota Rally) and Accolade (Test Drive 2) were my favorites. They did not use the name "simulator", but offered some of the games that I had most fun with.
PS: Maybe I did not know better.
I only remember two games I had on Commodore Amiga, Drum Studio and BMX simulator. Now both not playable on emulator. R I P.
I like Advanced Pinball Simulator. It's on Antstream Arcade. My high score is 20,785. I've never destroyed the red round thing in the upper left to end the game.
Fruit Machine Simulator was awesome, and I'm pleased to say, I've still got it :) International Rugby Simulator was also great!
I'd got really excited for Ninja Scooter Simulator for a moment, then I Googled it and saw it was put out someone called Silverbird.
I used to love ATV simulator . Great theme music (for the speccy)
I LOVED Fruit Machine Simulator, so addictive.
Holy shit I think I played Tim Miller's BMX simulator on commodore 64 way back
Yes please a codemasters video.
I'm a huge racing nerd and played unhealthy amounts of Codies games, especially 1nsane.
Advanced Pinball Sim is loosely Dizzy-themed, as you unlock the Village of Chigham, Zakks (I think) and the cloud castle. I never understood the significance of Chigham in Dizzy. Perhaps it's a pun on Chigwell.
Kim, are you going to do a complete history on codemasters? It would be great to hear about them.
Is that an 8 bit cover of Games without Frontiers by Peter Gabriel ?
3:09 'Lift a weight a few times' Ahahahha oh that one gave me a laugh :D
Linus Spacehead for the nes is a guilty pleasure of mine.
Didn't they release the simulator games in 4-packs? I vaguely remember pub trivia and powerboat games along with another couple of games in a pack. Maybe on my Atari rather than Spectrum.
Brilliant, hang in there Kim
Dizzy was originally titled "Anthropomorphic Egg Simulator"
you can see where they developed the micro machines mechanics.
I believe in a thing called love... Eeeeeeuaaaawwwwuuuuuu!
Mr. Hawkins has a good voice!
oh, god... Codemasters lol... Incredible to believe that they were still releasing games in 2015...
I had hours of good times playing that footy sim. The first fruit machine game was ace as well.
For me Codemaster's best game is Linus Spacehead's Cosmic Crusade. We didn't have as many of their games in Canada.
Always love your content Kim.
My fav Speccy game studio! Best regards to David Whitaker! Omg Google says he left us in 2012 :((( Imho he was the best 8-bit music composer!
Wrong David Whittaker - the VG composer is alive and well.
what the heck was that game where you could race a jcb against a tank and a c5? Cablt remember what it was called.
Thanks, Kim. :)
Love the Bottom clip!
Cash bash looks a great game ,
It was. Best fruit machine on the C64. But the rolls stay the same, not random. One could calculate the next state of the rolls.
3:37 is that the ULA rain from playing fantasy world dizzy on a grey +2?
spectacular video! thanks
Very nice presentation.
Can't wait for Thursday's Nostalgia Nerd. Larrry Bundy Jnr / Kim Justice Christmas Quiz Show live.

Pro ski simulator was funny. The screen scrolled at the same speed no matter where the player you controlled was. Good luck controlling it once you weren't on the screen anymore.
Jani Valtonen i loved the game. like you say it was annoying if you went to fast as well as to slow so you had to pace yourself.
ATV was my fave game on my speccy!
8 years!
ATV was brilliant had alot of hours on that game
charming as ever
When I heard you say Snooker, I thought you said 'Snuka'. "Oh this is gonna be a game where we Super-Fly off the top of a cage. Then we go to a motel and murder our girlfriend."
I like the Games without Frontiers rendition.
When is somebody going to release Codemasters Simulator?
