Does this game have any sort of time compression, or do you have to actually sit there in front of your PC monitor for hours and hours on the trip from mainland Japan to Iwo...or even worse...from Saipan to Japan?
Nah, I actually just overheated the engines until some died near the island and went in for landing. We sometimes do full scale 5h bombing raids, though :D

Sambot88 the new il2, il2 great battles is basically an expensive version of this but the interface, graphics, physics and sounds are way better. I have 200 hours on the new il2 and haven’t encountered (apart from 1 or 2 glitches) a single big yet. It does not disappoint, but it is just a little too expensive.

Except if they developed some mod to alllow this.
They have. With mods, it has been flyable for a decade or so.
