Here's a quick explaination, the phony war was the time in which the French didn't do anything. And because of trenches. As the soldiers had bad communication (they delivered messages with motorcycle, radio communication was already invented)
The lack of training of the French soilders was very bad. And as trenches were built. There was no invasion of the Rhineland.
