Nikon Z 7ii Hands on review : It's awesome!

- I have been shooting with Nikon since the film era and now have finally made the jump to mirror-less with the Z 7ii and I am never going to look back!
The Z 7ii is an amazing camera, in this video I took it out to a national park in Japan and explored the camera and how it fits into my work flow.
If you are thinking of making a shift into the mirrorless camera market or just thinking f buying the Nikon Z 7ii then I hope this video helps you decide.

Ordered one yesterday with the FTZ2 and MB-N11 battery pack/vertical grip (which is what sold me finally on the mirrorless, as I’d rented a Z7 and HATED the small form factor and lack of vertical shutter release as a long-time Nikon flagship DSLR user with big hands). Tons of nikon glass already, but I ordered the Nikkor Z 24-50mm for a potential “one travel lens” solution.
Looking forward to getting the new kit and putting my mind to learning to use it.
Just got this camera and still learning. I was a photographer in the military 30 years ago and this is my first camera since. Excited to start shooting! Thanks for the video!

Great review! My Z 7II was delivered yesterday and I have no buyer's remorse.

Thanks for the amazing video. I've owned a Z6 for about a year now and I'm loving it. I shoot a lot of low light street photography and it does a really good job at that. I want to get more into Landscape photography so ill be picking up a Z7II here in a the next few days. Subbed!

Wonderfully explained in a wonderful setting. What could be more beautiful? For me, the Z7 II is a real powerhouse for photography and film. A hybrid camera that brings enough power for many use cases. On my photo adventure, I was happy. Because of the technology. But also because of what I experienced. Because in the end that's what counts: experiencing the situation. Best regards SLEH

Just snagged a Z6ii... to my surprise after sifting through all the "influencer" jargon, it was exactly what I needed... and I'm loving it! Exceptional color science & performance, phenomenal AF (and this after renting the Sony/Canon/Fuji counterparts). Great video, lovely location! Thanks.

@@splootan Not at all. They are both great cameras but the A74’s AF, MP’s, Eye detect, and 3rd Party lens support best the Z6ii and make it a better option for me. The only thing I miss is the rear LCD rez, but prefer the variable tilt on the Sony. Plus the A74 is far more customizable and I prefer it’s menu structure over Nikons.
Super video, you have said it all, the Z7 and Z7II are superb cameras and the Z lenses are fantastically sharp, I have been a Nikon shooter for 40 years
and I am so glad I made the Mirrorless jump.

@@robeson1231 Hi,Yes, I had the D850 for about a year, beautiful camera, i would say the sensors are very similar it was the compactness of the Z system that drew me.
Also the Z lenses are just superb.
@@douglasritchie2836 ahh thanks so much. Am still on the D850 (and D500). Am a wildlife photog so just wanna be sure I'm making an upwards move by shifting to mirrorless. And yes, everything I hear about the Z lenses is very positive 👍
@@robeson1231 Not sure I would switch to the Z system for wildlife right now. The tick is to keep the subject in the shot and the EVF of the Z7II still lags a bit in burst mode. Also no great Z zoom lenses yet. Personally, I would wait for the Z9 to come out as it seems like it will be a more action/wildlife focused body.

Awesome, yeah i still have no issues or hangups about this camera that I didn’t mention in the video. Grabbed my d750 the other day as a second camera and it felt like an old tired dinosaur 😂 thanks for watching and sharing the stoke!

I got my z6ii almost 2 weeks ago and I got used to the EVF as soon as I put my eye on it! I simply can't go back to the old VF. I really love my new camera!

Just wondered if anyone knows if the Ziess Touit 35mm 1.8 lens would work with the z7ii with an adapter? (autofocus) Really hard to find info on this online, really appreciate any help 🙏🏻

Thanks for the Video; fantastic information, my ownly comment was that I talked to Nikon about the IBIS and was told that when you turn the VR on, on the lens, the IBIS is disabled.

That must be a misinformation? I did some video on the Z6 ii handheld and saw big difference when turing the IBIS on or of in camera. And I always have it active on the lenses too. I would check that again.
@@kjetilsimonsen7180 all i can tell you is that i got it directly from Nikon tech support. If you put an f mount lens on the camera and turn off the VR, you will see that it is greyed and you can't change it. If you turn it on, on a lens that has two options, normal and sport, you will see either the normal or SPT on the camera.
I’ve just bought a Z7 ii after owning just about every camera on the market. So far so good. You are right though it’s designed for stills rather than video. I also bought the 50mm 1.8 S lens which is absolutely awesome. Nearly bought a Sony but too many issues with colour and menu system. Are you still using your Z7ii

I believe that almost all the newer SP lens from Tamron work now on the Z system with firmware updates - this is a list of the ones that I personally know work perfectly: The 24-70 2.8 G2; the 70-200 2.8 G2, the 35mm 1.8 VC; the 35mm 1.4; the 45mm 1.8 VC; the 85mm 1.8 VC and for DX the 18-400. I am not sure that they have yet gotten around to updating the 90mm 2.8 Macro and as Nikon has just released both the 50mm and 105mm native macros for Z today, maybe it doesn't matter. Thanks :)

Does the tamron 18-400mm (dslr) lens work properly with the z7ii + ftz adapter today?
Nice video. FYI, the second-gen Tamron 70-200 F4 ( which occasionally goes on sale for $399) works great on the Zs.

Is there a difference between the Z-mount and the Zed mount? Mine is the Z but I am worried that maybe I might not have the right one🤓

I've had the original Z7 since 2018 and can keep it longer and still be really happy, but I'll be in the position of being able to upgrade to the Z7 II soon and I'm looking forward to having that for another 5 years or so. We'll see. The original Z7 is a fantastic camera that makes outstanding images. I have a gallery full of wonderful images I love from my Z7. I'm really looking forward to the little changes they made in the Z7 II.

Hello All! May be it will be helpful for Nikon 7zii owners. I had problem "Lens initialization failed" during the first attachment of 24-200 Nikkor Z Lens to camera. It was solved when I turn camera on with the lens adjusted to the maximum focal length - 200 мм. It was my second lens of this type. The first has defect of small plastic ring with Nikkor name at the front of the lens - the ring was not fixed correctly - it jumps out - I exchanged it. The first lens also has initialization error - but it was gone by turn camera off and on as suggested.

The only lens I had problems with was the Tamron 18 - 400. I bought the adapter and re programmed it, now it's fine.

hello! I am planning to buy the z7ii and need to know if my tamron 18-400mm (dslr) works correctly with the z7ii + ftz adapter. It is a lens that I use a lot and I love.
@@drab_videos Yes it will work, as I have that lens as well, great isn't it. First of all though, you need to get a "Tamron Tap-In Console" This re-programmes the lens. Unfortunately its one of those things you buy and probably only use once. Are you in the UK ?
@@tectorama i’m from Spain, I tested the 18-400mm on a friend's z7 body with the ftz adapter and I think I remember that it worked fine without the “tamron tap in console”, shouldn't the same thing happen on a z7ii?

What do you think about the Z7II for wildlife and specifically birds in flight?
Thank you for watching 🙏 i am by no stretch a wildlife photographer, birds in flight has always been a weakness for me, but the camera has worked as well and i think a little better then my older DSLR’s ( d750, d4, d800) did in that regard. The tracking is really good as long as the bird isn’t to small in the frame. I have a couple of bird shots in the video. I hope that helps.😊🙏
I have used the Z7 for a lot of bird photography with a 200-500mm Nikon lens. It's great and quite easy using auto area focus.

Dude, AF is not available on many current Nikon dslr lenses when used with FTZ adapter

Honestly theres not many places or times where the camera is what let me down in my shooting. A good amount of (99%) of the failings was always on myself.

Isn’t the Z7 II a pro body….?
Yes, and no also. It isn’t robust like Z9 or even the older D3,4,5 etc. so it is probody in ability but if I was out in it and this was my only camera, I might be worried about it failing. Perfect under controlled use. Studio, landscapes etc. not so much as a bash about.
Use the Nikon D5 and D6 cameras and tried the Z6ii and z7ii mount camera in action, Sports and wildlife areas. I found the Z mount cameras were too slow in comparison to my D5/D6 for covering F1,Road Racing,Football, Rugby and battery life was rubbish
Wait for the Z9 that is the camera that should be at the same level.
