      For a 10x10. Can I use two 4x6 as post support and as other 4x6 as a beam across or does it has to be a 4x8 ?

      @@enrikjj7935 because it’s 10 feet across, you should be using a 4x8 horizontal beam. Let me review my schedules sheet and I’ll give you a better answer. I’ll reply again in a few hours.

      This is for the city of Glendale, Arizona. Scroll all the way to the bottom, in Glendale, you need a 4x8 for a 10x10 patio. However, you can circumvent this by positioning your posts closer together and have the horizontal beam come out further on the sides. And the. A 4x6 beam will work if they are say, 9 feet apart.

    • @luisangelmedia4459

      Thank you. Securing the bases to the concrete goes something like this: drill a 5/8 hole in the concrete about 4-5 inches deep. Or 3 inches if you don’t know if the concrete has a footing on the edge or for the posts. Then just start hammering the bolt on. The bolt grips the concrete as you begin to tighten the nut. Hope this explains things better.

      @@luisangelmedia4459 ok good to know. I should check my city zoning laws. I prob need to go 2x8 then cuz my span is about 16 feet. I have a bunch of 2x6s I was trying to reuse but if I go every 24” it will only be a few pieces so shouldn’t be too expensive.

    Her everyone. My video recently hit 100k views and I'm super happy to see the comments you have been posting on my channel. Thank you for your kind words. Please subscribe to the channel if you have not already. I have more patio builds coming in the future as well as other fun projects.

      Hey Luis Angel, your video is great. The only thing I think I’m confused about with the building of my new patio is the connection of the ledger board to the house. I’m wanting to connect it to where the fascia board sits now. I don’t need to cut into the rafters like you did. I guess I’m wondering why you didn’t just connect the ledger board to the existing rafters where the fascia would usually sit. Is that not a good way to do it? I’m trying to learn. Can I connect the ledger board directly to the fascia board or maybe replace the fascia board with a 2x6 or something stronger?

      @@evanphillips4302 I’ve seen in some cities that they will not allow you to attached a ledger board to the end of the rafters, so you may want to check with your city building department. Also, the reason why I would personally choose not to attach the ledger board to the fascia is because these eaves are coming down at an angle. The edge of the rafters are much lower than the very top of the house. In some cases, you really cannot afford to lose any more height. Take this house for example, it was barely able to clear the 7ft minimum height where we attached the ledger. If we had gone down more, we wouldn’t have enough height left. Hope this helps.

      @@luisangelmedia4459 that makes a lot of sense. That is probably something I would I have figured out once I got further into the project.
      You do a great job of showing the details. The most important parts are the flow of water off the roof and you clearly show how everything is covered. I live in Louisiana where hurricanes are obviously a problem so I can’t miss any issues.

      Bro...what about that indented crack between the new and old roof? Water will collect in that canal. It's trapped. Are you trying to build a small water river where the 2 roofs meet?

    I'd go at least 18" away from the break where the two roofs meet. This way, you can nail higher up and not create a potential leak down the road.
    I would also suggest using roll metal at the seem of the flat deck and gable roof. This would prevent a break in the seem area where the two roofs meet. Also, use mastic where the shingle/flat roof meets. It comes in tubes like caulking now.

      @@PNW_Sportbike_Life thank you. I do always offer them if they’d like any finishing underneath, but usually people want the patio cover built first and then save up more for the ceiling.

    • @luisangelmedia4459
      @luisangelmedia4459  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can. We call those “Arizona” rooms here. Basically an enclosed patio, usually with large windows or a set of Arcadia doors. But when done here in AZ, it’s recommended to put in as much insulation as possible, on the walls and on the ceiling, the fiberglass insulation that goes between the rafters and studs.
