I have a bluebird box. They have nested for 3 years. Over 50 little birds have come out of that box. Next to the box I have a bird feeder and they never go to the feeder. These birds are primarily carnivorous, they like worms, insects and love spiders. It is fun to see that none of them in this video eat seeds, they are all going for the dried worms :-) :-)
seahue! Congratulations on an awesome video! I never really put much thought into feeding them; other than special berry cakes & suet cakes. Obviously, mealworms are the way to go! Now I'm in poor health and unable to replace houses, put up feeders, etc. Your video absolutely made my day! My mother & father used to call blue jays bluebirds a long time ago. (I saw another viewer who said the same. Lol) I gave them their first "official" bluebird house and the ONLY feeders they ever had. Oh, how they loved the Eastern bluebirds when they started seeing them come to their yard! Quite a long time ago, I had pairs of bluebirds and several families to stay thru fledging. The type of bluebird house, size of the entry, height at which you mount it, where you mount it and places to fly to when spooked all have to be considered when providing housing for them. It's all totally worth whatever it takes! Thank you, seahue, from the bottom of my old heart for sharing this special video with so many others. I'll be sharing it, too! God bless you and all of your beautiful feathered friends. 💜
a beautiful sight to behold, seeing these beautiful friends filling their hungry little bellies! Thankyou for loving them and sharing your outstanding video with us! I feed wild birds year round in Colorado and seeing this is so good for my soul!
As a kid I always thought blueJay's and bluebirds were the same thing. I've sill never actually seen a bluebird in person, but I love watching 14 of them chow down on meal worms!
I've got many Eastern Bluebirds also since I put up a bluebird house about a year ago .They seem to only like the dried mealworms and they spend alot of time chasing each other around. I don't know if they're being competitive, playful or just honing their skills but they do have some wonderful flying abilities.
You're right, watching Bluebirds is so much fun but the cost of mealworms is very expensive. The solution is to raise your own mealworms. It's so simple and cheap. All you need are a few plastic trays, some wheat bran and a few baby carrots. I won't go into detail but there are hundreds of videos on raising mealworms. You'll never run out again!
I just started to put out bluebird boxes this year.I have a lot to learn i find it very rewarding as of 5/5/2019 she is sitting on 5 eggs i have a camera in the box .Wish me luck i an caught up in the bluebird fever.
Thank you for feeding the bluebirds. I also do it in my backyard and I absolutely love my babies. I put a container with water, and they drink all day long (The righteous one takes care of his domestic animal)
How wonderful! I have my first nest of baby bluebirds this year (they might have fledged today) and am so obsessed with these beautiful birds! I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I had 14 at my feeder!! I have my cameras ready in case mom and dad bring the babies!
Hi David. I've never seen so many bluebirds at a feeder at once! Exceptional!!! Bet they've never seen so many tasty morsels! Awesome. Don't know what else to say... uuuummmmm Congratulations, my friend.
You want Blue Birds folks put out MEALWORMS...!!! It's there favorite i've had just as many at my feeders especially over the winter months. I've been in the avian field now for the past 30yrs. So i've had my fair share of time feeding and working with these birds among MANY other species for that matter. And no matter what i've experimented with in terms of feeding them Mealworms are there MEAL TICKET and main attractant. So if you have them in your area whether there nesting or feeding at your feeders. Give them meal worms and watch them go ecstatic...!!!
@@reneescarborough2499 They're right outta the Fridge , I think. I keep mine in the Fridge to make them stay in the Worm stage. They'll go Beetle on ya in no time at all, but that's giving away a few more secrets.
Soak ur mealworms in hot water, leave to cool, easier to digest. Also try sunflower hearts, full of fat for winter. Absolutely love this. Been feeding birds for over 20 years. Need fresh water as well, every day.
Nice to see someone subsidizes with a buffet of many options...Here in extreme S.Texas you get a few migrants (Eastern Blues) that stay close to sumac tree's for berries when super cold fronts chill us out some days warm days you can see them hunting insects...But they don't stray from sumac's
So neat! I have 2 bluebirds that have built a nest in one of our bird houses and I leave them mealworms. I keep going out and buying live mealworms...I didn't realize they would eat worms that were dead. Or at least, they appear to be dead.
I never could afford the live mealworms. Luckily they love the dried mealworms, which I could afford, from the fun website CHubby Mealworms...Highly recommended:) I am happy to hear you have a bluebird nest close by:) Someday I hope to set up some nest boxes:) Thanks for stopping by!:)
Awesome!!! I just bought a Bluebird Feeder. There were Bluebirds here at my new home last year. Your video inspires me to believe my feeder will be successful. Going to set it up now. 3,000 Mealworms are due to be delivered today. Going to add Currants as well. Thanks for posting this video!
Last spring I noticed a few bluebirds eating from our suet feeders so this year I put out a mealworm feeder. Now we have a marauding flock of 20 bluebirds that come by everyday!
I am an amateur photographer I have several pics of this bird and 1 great video. I love your video. I am a little anxious when I get the meal worms I will have my camera ready. Thank you for sharing your video.
I get my freeze dried mealworms from MEALWORMS BY THE POUND They have free shipping & cheaper prices! You order them one day & you have them in less than a week! Love the video & the bluebirds!!!
Hello Seahue. wow this one was amazing, i'm glad to see you got lots of view on this one. you have so many that should have thousands of views. i'm gonna share your channel with my daughter for my grand daughters viewing. cheers mate.
Hi. Thanks for posting this video. Santa told me I was getting a mealworm feeder for our resident bluebirds this Christmas. What else did you put in the feeder besides mealworm? Appears to be corn? And seed?
FYI- Raising mealworms is very easy and start-up cost is minimal. There are some instructional videos you can watch to understand what you will need. Thanks for the cool video!!
This is really helpful! We could never figure out why our bluebirds only seem to drink water from our heated birdbath. We live in Council Bluffs, Iowa we are situated in a acreage type setting away from the city. Do you have a certain mix or recipe for your bluebird feed? Thank you!
Seahue, I love this! Bluebirds showed up like this at my feeders over the last two years, too. I like that you can buy bulk mealworms...good prices on natureswildbirdfooddotcom.
Yes the bluebirds are doing great in Connecticut...I've talked to people from other towns in Connecticut and they say they see many bluebirds as well:) I thought about farming my own mealworms...yet the bluebirds only eat them when the snow covers the ground...so it is a seasonal thang..I just found a great site on the internet that sells mealworms for an awesome price...4 pounds for $45 ..The feed stores around my house charge close to $100 for 4 pounds!
@seahue: Mealworms are easy and cheap to grow ... videos abound on how. Lots of ppl who raise chickens or have pet reptiles raise them. Some people eat them ... theyre supposedly nutty tasting when dry roasted at low heat.
We moved from MD to PA last March and, with broken hearts, left our precious beloved bluebird generations in MD. (we def considered trapping them and dragging them to PA with us! )Our many blue bird feeders full of mealworms have not succeeded in getting PA bluebirds to visit us.. We are going to put out some houses soon, but is there anything else you can suggest? We have plenty of other birds... but just no bluebirds..
Thank you Ron:) I'm told I have so many bluebirds because there are NO house sparrows in my area...I read the house sparrows are killing off all the bluebirds...Hope to see the bluebirds again during the winter:) they mainly come to the feeder when there is snow on the ground...
+seahue These bluebirds are very attractive. I haven't noticed house sparrows in my area. I used to see them everywhere, but it's been a long time since I've seen any. I see song sparrows and chipping sparrows though.
Such a beautiful video of bluebirds feeding.🐦🐦🐦💞☺
Wow, Beautiful Upload friend. keep it up. Thank you for sharing this to us. Greetings from Korea
thoes blue birds are so cute.
Very nice video, they sure do like those long insects.
I have a bluebird box. They have nested for 3 years. Over 50 little birds have come out of that box. Next to the box I have a bird feeder and they never go to the feeder. A western blue bird and a Mountain blue Bird visited my feeder. Such beautiful birds

Amazing! I have bluebirds nesting in my back yard, but nothing like this! I will have to learn how you do it!
Very nice
Wow, that's so cool! You need more mealworms in that feeder
If you watch the beginning at 0.25x you can see they really love those dried mealworms - they flew off when their crops were filled.
Envy comes to mind, David. I wish I could get Eastern Bluebirds to come to my patch.
Stunning collection you have there!
Thank you:D Nice to get a big group of polite birds:D
I live about an hour outside of Toronto Canada and I have never seen a bluebird in my backyard! You are so lucky!

They are so cooperative!
Excellent video!
Imagine a whole flock of birds saw a backyard covered in grubs
That for sure is the most bluebirds I've seen at once. We usually see two or three at a time. Then, the males duel for the girl.
4:50 she sees us..we're caught ! ;-)
Last spring I noticed a few bluebirds eating from our suet feeders so this year I put out a mealworm feeder. Now we have a marauding flock of 20 bluebirds that come by everyday!

Fantastic!!
Get them a pile of LIVE mealworms and film it, they would go BONKERS!!!
The red headed woodpecker kicked all the bluebirds out lol
We don’t have Eastern Bluebirds in UK but they remind me somewhat of the European Robin with their tawny chests and keen, bright eyes.
wow amazing

is it right that they are called the bird of Happyness?
Where are you? I am in southern vermont december 2020 and have seen three eastern bluebirds so late in the season!
I'm in southern New Hampshire and we have them year round now. If you don't already in VT you probably will soon too.
Bluebird: let me go get my boys
