      You should consider applying to a program called TAPIF! It’s a French government program that allows fluent English speakers with, I believe, an intermediate-advanced level of French to teach English to k-12 students. It’s 8 months (October-April). I believe they provide just under 1,000€/month. But you only work about 12 hrs/wk and can supplement your income with other jobs! The application cycle opens in October and ends in January if I remember correctly. I think it’s a lot more competitive to get placed in Paris (probably requires advanced level of French and some English teaching experience) but it’s still an opportunity to live in France for 8 months 😌!! I got accepted in 2016 and didn’t go because I wanted to go back to school for another semester 😔 but I think I’m going to apply again this year 😄!! Wish I had taken the opportunity when it was presented smh! If you end up applying, bonne chance 😁🥂!

    General cost of living is about the same here in Australia, except for French cheeses of course, which is obviously due to freight costs.
    Beauty treatments are a little more expensive though, however wages are higher here so that would explain the higher costs.

    For the metro ticket, daily or monthly pass, does the price depend on the zone? For eg. in London you can split your pass, so if you're only travelling within zone 1-2 which is proper central London it's one price and then zone 2-6 is a different price. There also used to be a zone 1-4 & a zone 1-6 which obviously was the most expensive due to the inclusion of zone 1...i think they still make these for tourists but its a lot easier just to get friends an oyster and just too up as you go as it does get capped and if you use the bus you can pay 1 fare for upto 3hop-ons if you make your trip is within 1 hr I think, so great for running errands. Is that the same in Paris?

I live alone in a 40 square meter appartement and I pay not more than 35 euros per month for electricity and 15 euros per month for insurance. I remember the last time I visited Paris. I was crying in the airport cause I had spent so much money!! 😂😂 oh god! But ok… I mean, it’s Paris! Tiny hotel rooms, expensive food which I couldn’t eat cause I m Greek and we don’t use butter but again it’s Paris and I love it for many many things. Who doesn’t want to live there??

    This is already more affordable than living in Santa Cruz, California. I pay 1,500 for a much smaller space than yours. But can you do a video on healthcare as an expat? Like more of the bureaucratic bs that’s hard to learn about until you’re there in the thick of it. I used to live in Paris studying abroad so your videos are fun for me to reminisce and dream of returning!

    Good day, I have a few questions unrelated to the video, can I live in Paris without being fluent in French, or only beginning to learn French and what about crime in Paris. I am a pharmacist (black ), thinking about moving to Paris for retirement .

    • @landonjohnson285
      @landonjohnson285 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe many people, including Tiffanie (if I’m not wrong), are not yet fluent in the language but live in France. Generally, you don’t need to be fluent to live in France. However, learning as much as you can will only help you in the long run. Of course, you should probably have enough knowledge of the language to get around (shop, ask questions, etc...). Also, there are actually many places in Paris that offer French courses for Anglophones! As for crime, I would say to just be cautious and aware. Just like you would be in any city. To elaborate, I’d say just be aware of the way you carry yourself. I’d say you should walk around confidently and try to make yourself not stand out because pickpockets in Paris tend to target possible tourists. One thing you should know is that you should not sign anything on the side of the street! It is common for pickpockets to have fake petitions so that they can distract you while you’re getting robbed! Generally Paris is a great city and I have no doubt that you’d love it there, but just be mindful!

    The 15th isn't expensive at all. The 6th is very expensive and sooooo posh. That's the area to be.
    And for transportation, if you're a student you must be 26 and under. I found that out the hard way since being an older student isn't a thing there like in the states.

    • @jujublue4426
      @jujublue4426 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are doctorates in France but most students only study for 5 years, the ones studying longer are rarer. But you still need to study longer when you're a medical student or want to lecture in university for example.
      Sometimes there are older adults but they are rare.

    What about rent leases? Do landlords hike up the rent every year? Also if someone isn't in the corporate world, is it harder to find a job as an American? I'm an academic Librarian, but I speak Spanish and English.

    • @eunosnurb4123
      @eunosnurb4123 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rents evolve according to an index given by the state. So it increases every year but very slightly. Overall the tenants are very protected.
      For work I don't know, but outside the big cities, we speak rather badly English in France. Just, my sister is a college librarian in France. She had to pass a specific diploma.

    I live in NYC and it’s crazy that the cost of living in Paris is lower compared to NYC. Even when I visited London in 2019, I didn’t find it as expensive compared to NYC, especially compared to the quality of food? Can a Parisian with an average salary afford €1100 rent?

    • @jujublue4426
      @jujublue4426 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, French wages are way lower than American ones that's why most people who work in Paris live in the suburbs or even more than an hour away to have a better lifestyle than in the suburbs. Other French cities are way cheaper. An average salary in France is often between 1400 € and 2000 € per month ( even lower for some people ) and landlords often ask you to have an income three times bigger than the rent, that's why students need a garantor.
