Even when I've come to terms that the "scientific miracles" were bogus, I remained a Muslim and relegated to the teleogical arguement that the Quran was only addressing things that a 7th century person would understand, and anyone can understand. The only thing that made me feel that Islam was true compared to, say, the Roman pantheon and is uncorrputed compared to Judaism is because I believed that God’s character reflected the scale of the universe we knew of today, as someone truly powerful, devoid of negative traits comparable to a human, and fair. That is until I've come across two hadiths, one wherein women are the majority of Hell on account of "being less intelligent" thus likely to cause others astray as well their inability to maintain prayer due to menses, and the other is God's wrath towards painters being worse than a murderer, because he considers anyone who draws an animal to be imitating his power. This made me realize that if the 'most powerful' creator in the world would consider whatever a mere human makes to be an imitation, then he is isn't as powerful as he makes himself to be, and it makes sense seeing why he has angels and jinns do his bidding, when he should be able to do all these by himself with no effort. And the vitriol he has over image makers makes him come off as insecure, which is a trait you'd expect in Hera or Zeus or whoever. And I used to believe that God, since supposedly he has made women less intelligent, would thus go easy on them being the all merciful, but that Hadith proved otherwise. Neither was he living up to his namesake, nor was he any different form other deities. Thus I left my attachment to Islam.

What's wild to me is the seeming lack of vetting or instruction provided to new converts to Islam, be they famous or not. I converted to Orthodox Christianity, and it took me 2.5 years (all the while attending classes) to finally get baptized and accepted into the Faith. Islam seems closer to the "Sinner's Prayer" model of confession, which for as much as they go on about how great their religious culture is, is actually terrible for the individual's faith and understanding. I don’t know what Tate said, but I see the duality as conceptual, not literal. Saying “if evil is vile there must be good for it to appear vile by comparison” is not saying the literal amount of evil deeds in history has an exact opposite amount of good deeds. It’s noticing the concept of evil and then saying there must be conceptual good as well.

Lamech
Methuselah’s son was named Lamech, a root still evident today in our own English word, “lament” or “lamentation.” Lamech suggests “despairing.” (This name is also linked to the Lamech in Cain’s line who inadvertently killed his son Tubal-Cain in a hunting incident.[10])
