My border collie, Jessy, just passed away after 17 years of a wonderful life. This video helped me so much. There is NOTHING like a border collie's quirks. Thanks.
I recently lost my 11.5 year old border collie...she had markings so much like Ellie. This made me tear up. What a funny wonderful little girl. Please cherish EVERY DAY you have together....
My BC is 13 now. Up until a year ago he looked and acted like a puppy. He's slowed down a lot now. An hour of exercise and he sleeps the whole day. And he's gone grey! In his few hours when hes not sleeping he is still the most intelligent, active dog!
Some people are posting this dog is bored and not exercised enough. If you have never owned a border collie then you wouldn't understand. I have a border collie mix. The border collie genes take over my dog's DNA....He appears mostly border collie. Meanwhile you can walk these types of dogs or mixes, 20 times a day/45 minutes each and they are still like this even if you run them too. Border Collies have a high energetic drive and a high pray drive compared to other breeds. It's genetic. Nothing phases their energy. Even if you do not occupy their minds they will entertain them selves with funny behaviors. It does not mean the owners are doing something wrong. They are very intelligent animals. My dog is 9 years old now, but he still acts like he is 2 years old. His energy drive has toned down a lot, but still has his daily spurts. These kinds of dogs are always on the go. If you have owned or do own one, you will understand this and puppy stage is the worst phase to deal with...lol.
I agree Ann I have 2 BC mixes and it doesn't matter how hard or long you work them they never tire my dogs are ready to go at a moments notice at all times they keep me young lol
I could not agree more. I give my 10.5 yo border collie an hour if hard woods walking or snow shoeing every day, then my wife takes him out for a bike ride or ski the evening. He is still looking for more so he plays shadow in the kitckhen while we cook dinner. Sweetest dog I have ever known also. What a combo...
Mine is mentally always ready to go. She gets tired physically pretty easy since we have a fairly large yard that we allow her to run around as much as she would like, but even when you can tell she is physically drained, she still wants to keep playing. They dont know when to stop. My little girl could be sleeping, but as soon as I accidentally trip over one of her toys, she is up and thinks it is time to play at 12am. Couldnt ask for anything more though. She went through that rough puppy stage even though she is just turning 2. Within the past year she has gotten much better.
You have a beautiful border collie. Undoubtedly one of the best (if not the best) dogs to own.We used to have one (Floss) but she died ten years ago aged eleven. They fill your life with absolute joy and are always delighted to see you. They are hard work to keep entertained and need an incredible amount of exercise but they repay your toil in spades. You cannot help but develop a fantastic, rewarding and loving relationship with these fantastic black and white creatures. Enjoy. The both of you.
bc's are the best!. i rescued mine 4-5months ago about, i picked her cause she was the only one in the shelter that wasn't/didnt appear to be nuts, she always does this little hug thing and jumps on my leg everytime i come home or go, makes it so hard to leave sometimes lol. shes actually not very active... which suprised me, i highly.recommend you get one, shes super loual, only down side with these dogs is they have major seperatiom anxiety
Border Collies, the best and smartest dogs in the world, our BC Cross Barkley also has a 'thing' about pine cones :-) Thanks for sharing, Elli looks beautiful !!!!
A issue to think about when considering a border collie: They are SO FREAKIN' SMART that they can often seem to CRAVE CONSTANT mental stimulation...and when they don't get it, can seem to develop GENUINELY neurotic tendencies.
Best pets ever. They are so smart. I lost one recently, after 16 wonderful years. Too sad to get another right now. Enjoy the time you have, she is awesome.
you can give them 12 hours of activities and they still would be like that. mine didn't slow down until he was about 11-12 years old. but he would still have bouts of energy.
I loved my Gypsy Rose alert because she had a right blue eye and a left brown eye. Jer ears were 1/2 pricked too.My Tessie had no blaze, but she was beautiful too. Her right ear would stick up and her left would stick out. Bo Peep was ears would stick straight up and Jack's straight ears would lie back a bit. He had a wide blaze and was a big boy. Sweet too.
My border collie does the same thing in the snow, and I cant tell you how many basketballs we have gone through. She also goes nuts when we sing happy birthday. They are so smart though. We play hide and seek with her all the time. Shes even learned to open the door to the garage so she can get outside with us.
Our BC is infatuated with water and the dishwasher. It jumps up and down like a fox hunting a mouse under snow when the dishwasher is opened and then turned on to run. Our BC loves the garden hose and loves to get sprayed with the hose and watch his water bowl get filled. He loves Frisbee and balls and his rope. BC are good dogs but they take your time and shed a lot.
my BC "Gus" used to do those same things. except he didn't like water, he hated water. He didn't like to play fetch but loved trying to keep other dogs from playing fetch lol. oh and he for some reason had a special thing for whistle pigs(marmots). Whenever he heard one he'd start growling and his lips would curl up. don't know why, i had him since he was a pup and he wasn't traumatized by one.
Our BC Bessie (wife's good girl) died lil over a month ago at 17 yrs. Then her companion Drake (my good boy) also a BC died a week later, he had a massive tumor (that we didn't know about) had to put him too sleep exactly one week after Bessie's passing. We had Drake for 8 yrs, he was about 10 yrs total age. Just got an all black BC Austrian Shepard mix 2 yr female. I named her Betty. Yes after the Ram Jam song 'Black Betty' she took to her name right away! Should have called her shadow as she is truly my shadow. This one chose me, so as with all of my companions Betty goes everywhere with me. She looks good riding around in our vintage VW's...especially my bus Eleanor. So happy to have her and what a lover girl! Thanks for letting me vent gang as I am still hurting over the loss of our other BC's.
Sorry for your loss! It's tragic how you lost both your precious dogs only a week apart from each other. I'd be hurting so much if I lost my Aussie. My sympathies to you.
Thank you, and bless you soooo much! Means a lot! Still hurts but we are coping. Waited a month and got another baby. Not a BC but close...she instantly became daddy's girl. :). Again thank you and bless you and your baby! Mike...
It's no issue! My pup is also a tri-color Australian Shepherd (8 months old), and they're very similar to BC's. Bessie and Drake will be watching you from Doggy Heaven!
Michael Slack We had to have our Golden Retriever put to sleep on Tuesday July 25 2017.We had Bud 10 years and we are just devastated.I havnt been able to watch a video and my foster son made a new one in memory of Bud.I know how you feel sir. However im waiting for my husband and son to return from collecting our new Border Collie 10 wk old pup.He wont replace Bud but he will be loved and cared for just as much.Good luck with Betty.
My border collie does weird stuff when he's bored too =) I think it's because the constantly crave mental stimulation. He will obsess over your plastic soda bottles while you're drinking it hoping you'll let him have it to play with, and he constantly hunts for lizards in our back yard.
Note to new BC owners...if you're having problems with your pup, then they need more exercise. That's almost always the solution. 20 yrs with them now. They also calm down some around 2 yrs of age. Anything else is just a dog. PS. great pup on the vid.
I think Elli would enjoy a remote controlled helicopter. Our collie Jack would go freaking *insane* for his helicopter. And you actually have the space to do it justice!
Our JackBNimble would settle for herding lawn mower riders and playing Border Collie soccer. His mother Tess liked the latter too. She preferred herding the hens and roosters who visited from the farm behind us. She also liked to corrall the geese and ducks at a lake park. Felt it was her job to keep them inside the lake so they wouldn't "terrorise" the children. Adults thought she was funny, but Tess took her job seriously.
Our border collie freaks out if you say ride and won’t sit still. Then he drools and foams at the mouth for the entire ride. He also barks like crazy if anyone give a high five.
JUST saw your video,I am convinced our dogs are related,my dog had 2 litters of puppies and yours acts just like her and her son 1 of the total of 9 .1st. litter 3 girls and my boy,2nd litter 3 girls 2 boys.
They all do strange things. I’ve had 4 Border Collies at different times. A friend called and asked for advise with Border Collies and I told her don’t do anything your don’t want to do everyday 2 days in a row. It becomes a habit for them and you’ll never be able to stop doing it.
Border Collies ran the moors and glens of Scotland. That's why they have double coats, which throw off the rain. Their leg feathers are our wellies. They are strong, loving, loyal and wonderfully intelligent. Guardian Angels. ❤
My border collie LOVES to play basketball. She runs in to the basketball so hard though, so for fear of her fracturing something I don't play it with her often.
I know what you mean! They can be a little crazy with the play sometimes! After my friend Brody rammed a stick up the roof of his mouth playing stick, we have to carefully select the sticks now. He has had the cone on his head 3 times now for various "playing" injuries. They just go flat out until they can't.
Hah! You could put so many lol comments/annotations to that like "omg! Omg! She- she opened the can!! It went pop!! Omg! She opened the Pepsi!" haha lol
Her constant circling is a sign that she is under stimulated. Try getting her one of those red rubber balls and put peanut butter and broken up dog treats in it.
What’s good about border collies compared to other dogs is you never have to cut their claws. They’re too busy. Oh wait, I spoke wrong; everything is good, but mine doesn’t like Suzuki Samari 4x4s, beagles, or our neighbour Misses Bucket.
Our Border Collie Misty is now 20 months and just beginning to get out of the terrible two's and terrifying threes and ferocious fours. She has become a very very wonderful dog having gone through basic puppy school and teenager boot camp. She is well on her way to becoming an excellent service dog. Yes I said service dog. Her intelligence makes her the perfect candidate for this type of training as it is an activity that requires her to put that massive mind of hers to work solving problems to help my wife. Misty is our second Border Collie and I wouldn't be without one now.
by nature Border Collies need to be kept busy, they need a job! thus the reason he is very very excited! at least looks like a big enough yard for him to run and play but yeah, you need to keep them busy or they will destroy your house!
My border collie reacts the same way over the word walk. She really does recognize the real word. I say, "Go for--?" (her ears perk) "Go for--?" So, then I tried, "Go for bok?" or "Go for nok?" Her ears go flat when it's not the right word. Then I say the magic words, "Go for walk?" and she goes beserk, spinning in circles, whining, and panting.
I adore Borders - after we have had our cuddles she knows to go in the garage & get the bird food out & then watches all the birds come down no problem with Kites but does not like my squirrels !!!!???
My brothers collie whenever someone from the house sneezed, he would run around the house in circles just like when your run after getting the can opened! Soo funny!
Adorable.... our Sadie runs circles when I bring out a hand mirror or a roll of foil. The reflection gets her off and running! She will sit and stare at a shadow on the wall too. Huh funny what dogs find interesting.
Great collection. My bc mix also herds occasionally and go in circles, around me, if he is excited, or just for fun, when he doesn't find his fetch and gets angry... Runs as crazy till exhausted. He also likes strange noises, like opening a can, or spoon in a teacup.. scratching, he does the head tilt.
My dog likes the lawnmower, balloons, opening a bicycle lock, bottles, rolling over dead groundhogs and birds who have been killed by a car, digging holes, etc.
I had a German Shepard that we bought for 150 bucks. Great dog, lived to be 12. No health problems. I doesn't really matter how much you payed for the dog. All that mattered was that the family loved him, and he loved us back.
Yeah, they are much smarter then people give them credit for. They have the processing power and word recognition that rivals a young human. They need constant stimulation. I am glad to see it has a nice yard to burn off the energy.
I wonder if the dog can hear the air moving over the piano strings? You could dampen the whole set and see if the behavior continues. And going in circles is how you surround the herd/flock.
I guess you didn't name him after Dr. McCoy's nickname. I named my first girl, Gem after the Empath on "Star Trek" because she was empathic. She's come to me when I was sad, look sad and then try to cheer me up. Lived 13 yrs. Tried to give my Tess a Vulcan name, but she wouldn't respond. Preferred Tess Siobhan. Tried again with my next girl, a red/white. She said 'no' to T'Ami too. Said 'yes' to Gypsy Rose Lee. Next girl: T'Ami or Síla.
I made Part 2 to this video! See my border collie react to lasers, vacuums, and cracking eggs th-cam.com/video/dwJrOnIVAuY/w-d-xo.html
My border collie, Jessy, just passed away after 17 years of a wonderful life. This video helped me so much. There is NOTHING like a border collie's quirks. Thanks.
Sorry for your lost but I count in it said u have him since 1992
I recently lost my 11.5 year old border collie...she had markings so much like Ellie. This made me tear up. What a funny wonderful little girl. Please cherish EVERY DAY you have together....
Amazing curiosity, raw intelligence, boundless energy - this is a very happy dog enjoying life to the fullest. Plus she's really adorable!
The mixture of intensity and sweetness and quirkiness makes these guys the best ever.
My BC is 13 now. Up until a year ago he looked and acted like a puppy. He's slowed down a lot now. An hour of exercise and he sleeps the whole day. And he's gone grey! In his few hours when hes not sleeping he is still the most intelligent, active dog!

True. They just love stimulation and movement, and something to get focus on. Mine loves squirrels. She will watch them all day if you let her.
I just love Border Collie 💕💕💕💕
The absolutley most amazing breed in the world. Its not even close
I have 2 Border Collies and they are smart and athletic. My one BC is smarter than a lot of my relatives. Greatest Breed in my opinion.
I agree they can
Be really funny my border collie is scared of tomatoes
I have a standard poodle and a golden doodle.
OoBoth of them are smarter and sweeter than 87% of the people I know. They keep my heart alive.
you know what they say....you can pick your dog but you can't pick your relatives
Hahaha. That's funny (I agree).
She is as beautiful as our collie
Same beautiful madness
You have a beautiful border collie. Undoubtedly one of the best (if not the best) dogs to own.We used to have one (Floss) but she died ten years ago aged eleven. Watching border collie videos is not helping with me wanting one so badly. I have everything planned out for when I get one ohmygod

mark will
I plan on getting one, I've wanted one for so long.
Ayona Patrick Can I have him/her? XD
+Ayona Patrick I got mine 2 weeks ago
+TaseTheRainbowxXAJ
My BC changed my life. I adore him.
You won't regret getting a BC, best breed ever.
Border collies are such great dogs.
Exactly like my collie. I love how it just takes one word to send em on a mission. Such good dogs
What beautiful dog she is smart. I am planning to buy border colie in near future.
Basket ball is too hard for the dog. A Mason and Hamlin piano is a true delight.
It's notre bizarre, the border collier is the "top 1" intelligent dog
They are the smartest dogs ever.
Attacks falling snow.
Border Collies, the best and smartest dogs in the world, our BC Cross Barkley also has a 'thing' about pine cones :-) Thanks for sharing, Elli looks beautiful !!!!
You have a beautiful dog. And like many others it reminds me of my border collie of 15 years. RIP Skye.
My border collie loves washing machines, tumble dryers and hair dryers! BCs are the best dogs x
I don’t have to tell you this: border collies are smart!
Border Collies are fun and crazy. Mine loves learning tricks and being a goofball. Even at 10 years old she is still full of energy.
you can give them 12 hours of activities and they still would be like that. mine didn't slow down until he was about 11-12 years old. but he would still have bouts of energy.
I had to laugh. Every collie I've ever had was into the "playing with pine cones" thing.
Border collies are smart and handsome
The greatest breed. I miss our Mandy who died last December at 14 years old. Wonderful companion.
What a smart and beautiful girl Elli is! Thank you, watching this brightened my day. :)
So cute! I love the white mark on his lower back! I have a border collie and just love him SO much!
Sweet too.
I see nothing bizarre, they just want to play and have fun :)
The piano was the cutest thing...adorable
bc's have such interesting personalities!
That's completely my border collie now i know that there are other Border Collies like this
We had a border collie named Cooper. My form of entertainment as an 8 year old was turning on the sprinklers and watching Cooper attack the water.
If I made a video showing all my Border Collies quirks, it would run at least two hours long lol!
Ya gotta love a Border Collie.
Herding the turtle lol! They are truly a unique breed.
My border collie does the same thing in the snow, and I cant tell you how many basketballs we have gone through. She also goes nuts when we sing happy birthday. They are so smart though. We play hide and seek with her all the time. Shes even learned to open the door to the garage so she can get outside with us.
my border collie does the same thing with cars. If we pass one, she'll sit at the door expecting someone to let her in. lol.
I like to watch this once a week .........it helps lift my mood . X
awesome dog !!
My sheltie has some of that herding quirkiness as well, but not nearly as much as border collies. They have so much drive!
Michael Slack My condolences.
Michael Slack We had to have our Golden Retriever put to sleep on Tuesday July 25 2017.We had Bud 10 years and we are just devastated.I havnt been able to watch a video and my foster son made a new one in memory of Bud.I know how you feel sir. However im waiting for my husband and son to return from collecting our new Border Collie 10 wk old pup.He wont replace Bud but he will be loved and cared for just as much.Good luck with Betty.
she is one inquisitive and a beautiful dog. im planning to have one soon. also you have a beautiful neighbourhood and home
I love working with border collie
My border collie does weird stuff when he's bored too =) I think it's because the constantly crave mental stimulation. He will obsess over your plastic soda bottles while you're drinking it hoping you'll let him have it to play with, and he constantly hunts for lizards in our back yard.
Note to new BC owners...if you're having problems with your pup, then they need more exercise. That's almost always the solution. 20 yrs with them now. They also calm down some around 2 yrs of age. Anything else is just a dog. PS. great pup on the vid.
haha my collie does this too. He also likes to drop tennis balls down the stairs
I love how she tilts her head when she's listening
Mine did the same thing!❤️
They all do ❤
Our border collie freaks out if you say ride and won’t sit still. Then he drools and foams at the mouth for the entire ride. He also barks like crazy if anyone give a high five.
Ive got a Rottie, Border Collie, and a Bullmastiff. They're all amazing and very smart dogs :)
A wonderful dog and a neat place to live. Good show Elli.
Border collie: Sees turtle
Also border collie: **I MUST HERD THIS**
Border Collies ran the moors and glens of Scotland. That's why they have double coats, which throw off the rain. Their leg feathers are our wellies. They are strong, loving, loyal and wonderfully intelligent.
Guardian Angels. ❤
I love your dog, and what a beautiful home and grounds you have for him to play in!
Your collie is freaked out n stressed with a sudden noise her running around like that is fear
This is freaking adorable, my dog is almost the same except with the last two
I love this dog! :D
Keep telling yourself that till the day you have to put it down or get it a doggie wheelchair. My B.C. will be running circles around it.
my border collie absolutely hates it when I play the piano, I pull out the bench and she goes straight to bed.
I have a Border Collie too. I think they are saying " Where are the SHEEP! I know in my bones there supposed to be some SHEEP! " HAHAHA!!!!
Border collies = Love!❤️
What’s good about border collies compared to other dogs is you never have to cut their claws. They’re too busy.
Oh wait, I spoke wrong; everything is good, but mine doesn’t like Suzuki Samari 4x4s, beagles, or our neighbour Misses Bucket.
I thought it was a completely normal dog, until it came to the piano.
That dog is trying to herd the piano.
by nature Border Collies need to be kept busy, they need a job! thus the reason he is very very excited! at least looks like a big enough yard for him to run and play but yeah, you need to keep them busy or they will destroy your house!
And tennis balls, frisbee, wide open beaches...
They love to learn and please. So clever
Elli is so adorable!
I bet he goes insane when you play the piano lol
The mine and such for balloons, he does not like the vacuum cleaner, he fled the original. So here it is.
Soo funny!
I could spend hours just watching a collie do it's thing, best dogs!
Adorable.... our Sadie runs circles when I bring out a hand mirror or a roll of foil. The reflection gets her off and running! She will sit and stare at a shadow on the wall too. Huh funny what dogs find interesting.
My border collie will played with a dried up piece of leaf if there is nothing else
Best dog on the planet
very nice dog. thanks much for sharing
Elli is beautiful Kaitlin, great video!
I have one very similar to her, although your Collie seems quite calm and sane compared to my one who is a complete lunatic.
My dog likes the lawnmower, balloons, opening a bicycle lock, bottles, rolling over dead groundhogs and birds who have been killed by a car, digging holes, etc.
When you keep saying walk, Elli is like "Okay lets go! Lets... are we going or no?"
I had a German Shepard that we bought for 150 bucks. Great dog, lived to be 12. No health problems. I doesn't really matter how much you payed for the dog. All that mattered was that the family loved him, and he loved us back.
From what I have learned from my Border collie Posey they don't like wheels.
This was such a joy to see!
I watched your video just before I got my Border Collie named Bones.
Bones is now two years old and I came across this video again. C:
I love it.
