ive been playing this game over and over for 20 years, and absolutely love it every time. what works the best for me, isn't GF's. I use physical attacks. ill call up doomtrain for a boss fight even if the poison attack heals the boss, just to cut its defenses and cast any abnormal statuses that it can. then I wail on it. aura and aura stones on squall and rinoa, and limit breaks go nuts. but just in case I always hit the hidden save point that's right there by the terminal.
David V equip the move-find ability when you reach the bottom. There’s a hidden save point right there. But I never go after ultima weapon until my preferred party has their top weapons. My party is Squall, Rinoa, and Zell. Also I make sure Rinoa has taught Angelo both wishing star and invincible moon. But also I hit up the island closest to hell, and stock the spells found there. Well I used to, but ive found other ways to get the spells. If you get them, and junction them right, you can make your characters virtually invincible. Junction 100 ultimas, and 100 full-life’s to your elemental defense and all elemental attacks will actually heal you instead of harm you. The only slight exception is poison. Getting hit with poison will heal you, but it still carries its negative effects when you make an action. But if you can land yourself a ribbon, then you will never have to worry about it.
@@Jennifer-jt9cb thank you for the reply! I don't remember how I did it, nor how I dealt the frustration of doing the whole thing many times, but i defeated Ultima and omega (omega proof). I also remember being proud and promised to never do it again... Until I did it again. Love this game!

FF8 was my first ff and played it sometime around the year 2003 when I was 10, then tried 7 sometime around 2008-2015(can't really remember which year) Took me till I was in my 20's to realize that ultima has a slightly different version of cloud's ultimate weapon.
I always thought the green rocks were materia and deepnsea lab's scientist just discovered a mako well and didn't knew what it was but the planet created a weapon and killed them all thus abandoning the island. This is a nice throwback to ff7.
I struggled for a LONG time here when I was young and playing this for the first time because I didn’t know about Zell being able to cut off the security system at the start of the dungeon. I worked my way all the way down to Ultima, fighting random battles every two steps just so I can get my ass whooped a few times trying to draw Eden back before I really understood the junction system to make my party stronger and have more defense. Good times
My one problem and it was a small one with Omega/Ultima Weapon is that I think they deserved a special theme for fighting them (ala FFVI "Atma Weapon")
in my first play, I spam every GF in boss fight. then when i learn about junction i never used GF agan. in this video I think he wanted to show fighting scene with HD, good job.
It's my favorite.... everyone says it's too mushy. I'm not into romance stories, but this was obviously more than that. People just had a bias because this wasn't their airships and crystals FF. Sorry if a flying school, a dragonesque space ship, and the powers of godly beings weren't archaic enough for them, but I can only see the imagination in this FF for futurizing those concepts. I also believe the score and themes were Uematsu's Magnum Opus.

I forgot many details and scenes from the Final Fantasy series as I played them when I was young and they were coming out. I was having dreams for a while about a Final Fantasy game unlike any other. In one case there was a crystal teal staircase that lead down to an eternal darkness and at the bottom was where I faced this version of Ultima Weapon. A lot of it I guess was just my brains version of fragmented forgotten memories. Only my dreams were on another trippy level.

Peter Parker I’m referring to this video. The player used hero on his party. The question was, why didn’t they cast aura on the party and use limits? I was just letting them know that they couldn’t use aura if they used hero first
Back then i used holy war+meltdown+aura+spam limit break against all the tough bosses (ultima weapon, omega weapon, and ultimecia). I even grinded like a madman until all of my characters reached lvl100. Now i wish i could replay the game, but this time without the intense grinding and holy war.
I remember grinding for this fight, sometimes I swear the trip all the way down the steps fighting the iron giants and red dragons was worse than ultima weapon himself. Personally think they should have made a stage similar to this to get to omega weapon.
Problem is what works for one computer will not always work for all computers. Instead of committing to it, Square uses an excuse. Someone who knows what they're doing comes around, and they make an excellent mod. For example, when I use the HD textures option in the Steam version, they look so much worse than the PC version did back in 2000, which looked better or worse than the PS1 version depending on your computer. I know, because it was the version of FF8 I owned back then, and I was using a computer with a 300Mhz Celeron processor and 32MB of RAM. Not my computer, didn't have the option to upgrade it. The game ran like a slug. Anyway, in the Steam version, the Triple Triad game especially looked muddy. You couldn't make out any of the card details. I only know what I was doing because I played it so many times, and I actually have a physical Triple Triad deck.
Rinoa limit break "wishing star" actually have a triple effect with the less than 1% chance to be executed.... I've encountered that kind of luck ☺️😁... If only I have record the video at that time as a proof 😑

Schall-Rauch you have to evenly distribute all of the steam quantities, and don’t have Zell trying to use the controls at the last terminal. By memory anyway, I haven’t played in a while 🤷🏼♂️
the remaster won't be that mind boggling... they really need to redo the environment assets anew if they want to call it a proper remaster, I don't mind the character models but the environment really begs for a refresh

You can't allow Zell to open up the halfway floor(or simply not have him in your party) and you must equip Diablos' Enc-None ability in order to make it to the bottom of the dungeon without encountering any enemies. Otherwise, enemy encounters will be either fixed or plentiful.
It does work. But only if you use the power given to you properly and not have Zell bust open the door. If Zell does, then it negates Diablos' Encounter-None.
Glorious Showoff The most you might be able to do is use the tool "Hyne" and just add them in. Should be able to work at any point in the game. But always backup your saves just in case.

Math Lufther Thank you. :) I don't know if I should be happy or feel bad to get you to buy it. Haha. There are multiple ways to see how. I have links to all the mods in the description. There are videos on TH-cam or you can look at Mcindus's Steam guide to see how to do it yourself. Or you can donate for the launcher that does it all for you. But like I tell people, you don't really need it because it's quite simple to do on your own. You don't have to wait. I have a few updates in the works, but they are minor ones. At least until the I'm ready for the big stuff again.

How do you make the text boxes transparent? I mean in my version of the mod the boxes that should be are of an even more solid dark grey color than the normal ones

I think it has to do with the menu gradients contained in 'iconflmaster_14', because if I delete that file everything is fine in HD but the menu gradients which are back to low res, but at least I regain the transparent text boxes...I have the Italian version btw... Maybe I should go to Qhimm to ask McIndus in the Seed Reborn topic... Thanks for answering though

The wikis which refer to the official walkthrough state that the scientists were actually looking for a power source bigger than known G.F.s. In the process, they found Ultima weapon which was so powerful and fierce they fled in terror and left everything behind. The site had to be evacuated immediately.
This game always made me wonder if FF8 is actually a direct sequel to FF7 based far....FAR in to the future, say tens of thousands of years. I mean the hynes in this games mythology could just be a legend describing sephiroth being defeated, the moombas could be red XIII's race evolved over millenia, The shelters (aka gardens) could have been built by shinra remanants due to the planets demise, esthar could be built on the ruins of midgar explaining it's unique technologically avandced society, and even in this scene you have what look like materia reacting to the ultima weapon..... in an under water cavern that looks suspiciously like the remnants to the temple of the ancients. Even magic's scarcity is explained by the damage sephiroth did, thus meaning all the sorceresses were both cetra and corrupted by jenova.... explaining why they all enevitably go insane. Also if you look closely you'll see that the ultima weapons sword is nearly identical to clouds ultima sword. This game is really more interesting when you view it through this lens.
So fun fact: FF8 IS a direct-line sequel to FF7. The game that bridges the two is actually Xenogears. Cloud mentions the titular gear (He specifically says "Zeno... gias," which, pronounced in Japanese phonetics, is Xenogears.) after his fall into the lifestream, as well as speaking the lyrics for "Two Small Pieces," the theme from Xenogears. FF7's Cetra legend speaks of a crystal spaceship (The Lunatic Pandora) which would take them to the Promised Land, a place where magic springs from the ground. This phenomenon occurs regularly in FF8's Draw Points, where magic literally springs forth from the ground. It is to be noted also that the Mobile Type-8 gear found on the Lunatic Pandora in FF8 was the completed Type-8 gear from Xenogears. Long and short is that someone out there found a way to the Promised Land, well after the events of FF7. And no, FF8 makes it clear that Moombas are ascended Shumi, not evolved R13's. Should've gone that route, though. Could've been something there.
Andreas Oh! It is out. It's just not part of the installer. Mcindus and others think my backgrounds should have smoother edges like Project Eden's. So I'm slowly trying to do it.
P6lishB6kser There is a mod/add-on I have linked that can up enemy difficulty. But if you want a better challenge, then try "Requiem" I believe it's called? Should be compatible.
Oh. Hm... I'm not sure if there was a patch for the PSX or not. It's not something I've looked into. I know Sega Chief is tinkering with a difficulty mod, but it could take awhile for it to come out.

USE AURA MAGIC and just trigger the LIONHEART or USE ZELL's DUEL and you're done. ULTIMA WEAPON is EASY to kill.

Great game. Ultima weapon was hard to beat. This game has something that the stronger you level up. They level up as well.

Long time memories... i found the funniest strategy to play it risky and have all of the chars at low health and use limit breaks all the time. So much fun with ff8! Wp👍
I remember playing this part back in the day, and the encounter rate of strong monsters on the floors leading up to Ultima Weapon were ridiculously high! I notice here, they’re not. Any explanation? Please and thank you...
You can't allow Zell to open up the halfway floor(or simply not have him in your party) and you must equip Diablos' Enc-None ability in order to make it to the bottom of the dungeon without encountering any enemies. Otherwise, enemy encounters will be either fixed or plentiful.

How did you just walk down? Diablo’s no attack perk doesn’t work down there.
It does work. But only if you use the power given to you properly and not have Zell bust open the door. If Zell does, then it negates Diablos' Encounter-None.
Is there a mod that can let you have every summon at any point in the game?
Glorious Showoff The most you might be able to do is use the tool "Hyne" and just add them in. Should be able to work at any point in the game. But always backup your saves just in case.

Math Lufther Thank you. :) I don't know if I should be happy or feel bad to get you to buy it. Haha. There are multiple ways to see how. I have links to all the mods in the description. There are videos on TH-cam or you can look at Mcindus's Steam guide to see how to do it yourself. Or you can donate for the launcher that does it all for you. But like I tell people, you don't really need it because it's quite simple to do on your own.
You don't have to wait. I have a few updates in the works, but they are minor ones. At least until the I'm ready for the big stuff again.

john hartsell well the most straight forward reason would be that its a nod to the previous game? A sort of cameo if you will.

How do you make the text boxes transparent? I mean in my version of the mod the boxes that should be are of an even more solid dark grey color than the normal ones
420praiseit I don't think you can? If everything looks the same as in this video then everything should be good. Everything that's transparent works normally for me. Unless I'm missing something.
I think it has to do with the menu gradients contained in 'iconflmaster_14', because if I delete that file everything is fine in HD but the menu gradients which are back to low res, but at least I regain the transparent text boxes...I have the Italian version btw... Maybe I should go to Qhimm to ask McIndus in the Seed Reborn topic... Thanks for answering though

Why do you wait so long between moves, cerberus then shellx3 and protect x3 would have been good, then aura and hes owned, but Im guessing this was to showcase the mod, so nice mod

took me less then 3 min to finish him. cast slow on irvine, shot 60 fast ammo in 1 go, lionheart and repeat first 2 attack on zell.

The wikis which refer to the official walkthrough state that the scientists were actually looking for a power source bigger than known G.F.s. In the process, they found Ultima weapon which was so powerful and fierce they fled in terror and left everything behind. The site had to be evacuated immediately.
At the very least the invincible from holy war and rinoas LB should last like 2 turns. Its so OP the way it is its ridiculous.
This game always made me wonder if FF8 is actually a direct sequel to FF7 based far....FAR in to the future, say tens of thousands of years. I mean the hynes in this games mythology could just be a legend describing sephiroth being defeated, the moombas could be red XIII's race evolved over millenia, The shelters (aka gardens) could have been built by shinra remanants due to the planets demise, esthar could be built on the ruins of midgar explaining it's unique technologically avandced society, and even in this scene you have what look like materia reacting to the ultima weapon..... in an under water cavern that looks suspiciously like the remnants to the temple of the ancients. Even magic's scarcity is explained by the damage sephiroth did, thus meaning all the sorceresses were both cetra and corrupted by jenova.... explaining why they all enevitably go insane. Also if you look closely you'll see that the ultima weapons sword is nearly identical to clouds ultima sword. This game is really more interesting when you view it through this lens.

So fun fact: FF8 IS a direct-line sequel to FF7. The game that bridges the two is actually Xenogears. Cloud mentions the titular gear (He specifically says "Zeno... gias," which, pronounced in Japanese phonetics, is Xenogears.) after his fall into the lifestream, as well as speaking the lyrics for "Two Small Pieces," the theme from Xenogears.
FF7's Cetra legend speaks of a crystal spaceship (The Lunatic Pandora) which would take them to the Promised Land, a place where magic springs from the ground. This phenomenon occurs regularly in FF8's Draw Points, where magic literally springs forth from the ground. It is to be noted also that the Mobile Type-8 gear found on the Lunatic Pandora in FF8 was the completed Type-8 gear from Xenogears.
Long and short is that someone out there found a way to the Promised Land, well after the events of FF7.
And no, FF8 makes it clear that Moombas are ascended Shumi, not evolved R13's. Should've gone that route, though. Could've been something there.

Andreas Oh! It is out. It's just not part of the installer. Mcindus and others think my backgrounds should have smoother edges like Project Eden's. So I'm slowly trying to do it.

P6lishB6kser There is a mod/add-on I have linked that can up enemy difficulty. But if you want a better challenge, then try "Requiem" I believe it's called? Should be compatible.
I forgot to mention that I use psx version :) I found patch for it but it doesn't seem to work :/
Oh. Hm... I'm not sure if there was a patch for the PSX or not. It's not something I've looked into. I know Sega Chief is tinkering with a difficulty mod, but it could take awhile for it to come out.
I was thinking about difficulty mod made by Colly forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=11026.0 but as I said, there are no changes in the game when im using it :/
