    For me the point of this change is now It allows you to use your one to gain lane pressure hitting the enemy god without missing on the stacks, so for me It seems like a huge Buff to surturs lane phase

    This change is more of a buff to Side Modes I feel like. Cuz for example in Arena, Surtr would get 0 stacks, there is no way to farm them. Same in other modes where you don't rly sit and hit waves for 15 minutes.

      nah it helps a lot in conquest, before i had to decide between do bit 1 dmg to enemy god or get stack by killing minions. Now u can just attack the enemy god and minions with 2 and 3 auto cleave and his ability 3 (maybe 2 too when engage and hit wave and god). ofc it helps in arena to stack too but only issue in arena is the time, easy get 1 ability hit in before mage kills them to get a stack, just not much time.

    Old surtr 200 stacks did 1000 damage, new is 999 max. He got nerfed by 1 damage😔

    I'm a colossal fucking nerd and I want to know these things, so I actually opened up excel to record and compare the stacking process in this game.
    Basically when fineokay got stacks, I typed the current stack count, and next to that on the same row a 0 or a 1 depending on if it was a last hit (i.e. qualified for a stack in the old system). Next to that I had a counter that tallied up the 1s (old stacks) up to that point to see how many fineokay would have accumulated. And finally, a formula that converted the new stacks to the old stack equivalent (just divided by 5) and another with this number divided by the old stacks fineokay would have got, to find out the percentage ratio. All this was repeated on each row, so I could see the progression.
    TL;DR ---> The match ended at 374 stacks, whereas the old system would have given fineokay 84 stacks. The "old stack equivalent" with the new stacks was 74.8, or 89% of what fineokay would have got with the old system.
    As long as you are just last hitting minions, the new system is of course less efficient, because you only get 60% of the stack equivalent. But you are also hitting enemy players from time to time and getting that same 60% equivalent instead of nothing (unless you get a player kill while the 1 is on them, but even then you get slightly more benefit with the new system).
    The stack equivalent ratio did go up and down this game (sometimes fineokay was just farming, but at one point he hit Vamana 4 times in a row), but the general trend was upwards. I'd imagine that if the teamfight stage lasted longer this game, fineokay might have stacked the 1 to slightly higher damage than before.
    Based on this (admittedly small) sample, I do think Hirez lowballed the numbers a little bit. IMO you should get more a little more stacks for hitting a god. You really don't even want to use the 1 on any minions except big jungle creeps, because Surtr's AoE clear is good enough.
    "But what if you just farm a million stacks off enemy gods"? Well then they are presumably dying in the process and you are winning the game anyways.

    Really should just be uncapped. Stack forever; make surtr a continual problem in an hour long match and provide a pathway for usefulness late

      Could do something like “once Surtr reaches 999 stacks of passive, gain a *charge* and reset all stacks. *Charge* permanently increases damage of “1” by 1000. Can have up to 10 charges.”
      I mean you’d never reach it in a game every but still, close to uncapped as you can get I feel like.

    TLDR: For average Surtr players: Mild nerf
    For experienced Surtr players: Goes unnoticed - Potential slight buff.
    This balance change and its impact on Surtr really should be based upon typical scenarios you would encounter with him in a match. Basically we are trading a -2 damage per minion kill for the ability to gain +3 damage for poking/boxing enemy gods (the +1 damage for minion hit and +5 for god kill are irrelevant changes). That means this will shift Surtr into a more rewarding, aggressive playstyle. A typical scenario in lane where you would be ideally using your 1 on both minions and gods alike the changes are going to be unnoticed more than likely. You will be throwing your 1 on enemy gods to poke them when you can giving you +3 dmg each time. When you're unable to poke you should be using your 1 on CD when there are minions around for KB and to secure +3 dmg. Yes the dmg increase this patch will be 40% less per minion kill however there will be a 60% increase in dmg increase for poking enemy gods. This is where an aggressive playstyle with an emphasis on using your 1 on enemy gods as much as possible will actually be a slight buff to your dmg stacking potential.
    A scenario to put it into context: You leave your fountain and use your 1 to kill 10 minions and hit enemy gods 8 times (18 uses of your 1, sounds like a lot but truthfully isn't given its short CD) before returning to base to buy items.
    Pre-patch you would receive 10 stacks for the 10 minion kills with your 1 stacking at +5 dmg per stack totaling 50 extra dmg on your 1.
    Post-patch you would receive 54 stacks: 30 of which would be from the 10 minion kills and 24 of which would be from the 8 uses of your 1 on the enemy gods. This would equal a total of 54 stacks at +1 dmg per stack totaling 54 extra dmg on your 1. This would basically come out to about 10% extra additional dmg from your passive on your 1 (slight buff).
    These scenarios would likely have even more differentiation in the mid-late games where team-fights are more common and you would and should have high CDR and boxing potential. You should find yourself in situations where team-fights net you far more stacks from consistently smacking enemy gods with your 1 as oppose to using it on wave or camps when your 2 and 3 will likely clear both of which in a single use.
    However, with all this being said it's only speculative and we'll have to find out Tuesday if this deems to be true.

    Certainly a nerf for jungle surtr. Killing one jungle monster got you 5 damage from 1 stack. Now you get a max of 3 stacks, for 3 damage, from a single jungle monster.
    Stronger when boxing enemy gods, nerfed when just farming minions and camps.

    I'm so happy about that change, getting stacks in assault was a pain cause everyone is just spam clearing the wave instantly. That will help a lot in side modes

    In conquest if you were focusing the stacking aspect this has to be a nerf, but then you gain more pressure in lane since you are more rewarded to hit the opponent instead of focusing on last hitting.
    Edit: It seems fineo summed it up in a similar way in the end :)

    I disagree with people saying this is a nerf. Sure, you reach basically the same amount of damage, but HOW you got there is way different. With these changes you can box, fight in lane, gank, fight over objectives AND farm to get stacks, where as before you had to sit in lane for 20 mins afk farming minions to get that many stacks. Makes it so Surtr doesnt get punished in 1 stacks for being present the whole game.

      Is a nerf how likely is he going to reach 500 stacks compared to 100 stacks. I think they should done 1.5 magical damage instead, which 400 stacks will equal to 600 damage. Both ways you be afk farming is just require less skills to build stacks now because late game you would not be getting stacks hitting gods because is dangerous and probably be farming minions again.

    Hmm I don't know how I feel about this. It is better for casualy stacking I think but less worth going for or focusing on? The old surtr without a cap but reduced damage would make him 10x more interesting. I don't mind gods getting OP at the end of the game, this would change the meta a bit where late game gods are a high risk high reward thing. But idk

    This is definitely not a nerf but a QOL change/buff. It felt like shit to hit the enemy god and not get a stack so now you do. The more aggressive you are, the more cooldown, the more of a buff it is for him. Simple as

      @@Memrohit’s not, stacks are 5 times less valuable in this update now. I’m diamond 1 and in a 30-40 ranked conquest match I’m averaging 90-115 stacks. At best that’s 500 bonus damage now, in this new update I’d have to get 500 stacks for it to be valued the same, no one is getting even close to that

      Nah it’s actually a great change, it boosts his late game capability, which is great because Surtr was only strong early to mid game. Now he can continue to scale into late game. Not only that but the dmg stacks slightly faster for early to mid game as well… so it’s a buff all around

    The stacking feels more natural but they gotta double the amount of stacks you get or something cuz there’s no way to get max stacks now even with a 50% cooldown build unless it’s been 50+ minutes in the match they actually made it take twice as long to stack

    So you used to get 5 extra damage per stack up to 200 stacks which equals 1000extra damage at max stacks, now you get 1 extra damage per stack up to 999 stacks which equals 999 extra damage at max stack, so it isn't really a buff, the damage breaks even at max stacks, the only difference is how you stack now, I guess it doesn't just force you to last hit minions in order to get stacks but you can now getting them by being in fight and hitting enemies

    It's way harder to stack. Old passive, 1 minion kill equals 1/200th of full passive. Killing a minion now gives you 3 stacks. 3x200 = 600. Not even close to full passive.

    I hope people realize how bad of a nerf this is. Yes you can build stacks much faster now, but the value is 5 times less. That is a huge drop off. Not a single one of you are getting even close to 400 stacks, I’m diamond 1 in conquest and in my best games I’m averaging 90-115 stacks in 30-40min games. That’s me, I don’t expect an average surtr player to even get 60 stacks while still being effective in game.
    100 stacks now is 500 bonus damage, you would have to get 500 stacks in the update for it to be valued the same. That ain’t happening, you must be some bronze-gold noob to be in a lobby that would even allow it

      I think it's slightly worse but it's not that bad. Even in the absolute worst case scenario you are only losing 2/5 of your 1 bonus damage, which is bad but you will obviously be hitting 1s on gods so it will even out a bit

      @@TheMirksta I’ll put it like this to you, if I see a surtr after this update. I’m putting so much pressure on you cause 1) I know it won’t do as much damage anymore
      2) I want you to waste your 1 on me cause I’ll out clear you every dam time
      And 3) as the game continues towards late game Surtr no longer will one shot mages/hunters making him far less useful in these ranked games.
      I expect the average player to get somewhere around 200-250 stacks in this update, the damage on that is so low I wouldn’t even bother playing Surtr.
