  • The tune "Alley Cat" is from the 1960s, composed as a jazz piece by Bent Fabricius-Bjerre, more commonly known as Bent Fabric. It is a very unlikely piece that you will ever hear on a reed organ, but one needs to have fun once in a while :)
This instrument was made in Berlin Ontario (now Kitchener) around 1897 - it is 100% foot powered, the accents and dynamics are all controlled by the amount of wind that is moved by the treadles.

In first grade, ca. 1965, our school had a dance routine to this song. The kids were in tiger cat suits, swinging their tails. I've been tornemthing my neighbor best friend, because he was on stage then. I've never forgotten it and he wished he could!

I love that "grungy" bass, that no pipe organ can re-create!

Thanks! This organ has a large sub bass that are not found in many reed organs of this size. It sounds even better in person :)

Rodney, you really make this Berlin organ SING! It sounds like lusciously full Wurlitzer pipe organ. And... nobody does expressive crescendos and decrescendos as effectively and superbly as you do! BTW - Thanks to Lori, you look well lit! LOL.

Thanks Darryl! My goal is still to convince more people that these instruments are *musical* instruments, and not just whimsical furniture :) Maybe the lights will help LOL :)

Wow! Ha I’m left speechless you are exploring the capabilities of these instruments and this seems a whole new realm. A real tour de force! ! I like the touch of reverb that reminds of the big old municipal organs or ballpark organs.

Thanks Charles! I always find it interesting to play music on these instruments that is out of character and in a different time period, one never will know the result until you try. I was going to leave the recording "dry", but after I heard it with the reverb fingerprint that was copied from our church I just had to leave it in :)

Thank you for your generosity in making us hear you on this nice reed organ. I wish I could give you all the reed organ parts that I have collected over the years in my area. It would be sad to see it all go to waste.
