for color you can add the adjectives light and dark .you can say this one is darker or lighter. darkest or lightest

Can someone explain me why the comparative form of 'simple' is 'simpler' although it has Two Syllables.
How about clever?? It has 2 syllables it mean it has 2+ syllables but it's comparative is "cleverer" , why not we use "more clever"?
