I've climbed for 20 years don't trust those cheap snap locks. There's a reason climbing gear has a minimum 20Kn rating on them. Webbing also has a Kn dynamic load rating make sure yours can handle the stress before you put any real height under that device. The stress of a 3-4 m fall vs a 20m fall is massive. Be safe guys.
Along with the rest of the comments regarding safety concerns because of the carabiners, attachment points, electric latch, etc., good luck falling into that device from a height without a shock absorbing lanyard also. If you ever need to rely on that device to actually catch you and prevent a fall from height, you will probably not come out of it uninjured. I hope others don't follow your lead and try to make these for their own use.
Not that the other critiques aren't valid but this style of fall arrest (or at least the factory made equivalent) doesn't need a shock absorber because it stops you before you gain momentum. The first demo on a ladder he stopped within 0.25m of falling. Same applies at 2m or 20m or 200m working height.
@@Rainbows871 The factory made ones are always under tension. Your theory only holds true if there is no slack on it. Requiring the user to activate a remote control to spool in the slack can't guarantee that. The critical wording is "self-retracting" lifeline. If it's not self retracting, it won't help. This is only partially self-retracting (it only retracts when the user pushes the button).
As usual, another well machined project. However this is the first time I have to make negative comments. 1. Never use a home made inertia reel. Safety devices are designed and tested for a reason 2. The comment on those carabineers is correct, they are not rated. Also the square edge that you put on the connecting point will cause the carabineer to fail on a proper fall from height. 3. Inertia reels are designed to reel in and out while walking around to always keep the line taught. All that electric release stuff should be removed as if there is slack when you fall it allows you pick up speed and there causing more physical damage in the event of a fall. But feel free to use it yourself at home if you want. That's your choice.
Agreed. Safety gear and climbing gear go through a rigorous process to stress test them under the most extreme conditions. I understand that you are a gifted and skilled machinist, but you should not trust this device with your life.
I would never trust my life to a homemade version like this. I bought a self-retracting lifeline for working on the roof. It was expensive but I know it will save me. Don't mess around with safety gear!
Please dont trust those carabiners, they're not rated and trusting one will get you killed. HowNOT2 has a video on sketchy amazon carabiners and gear, and those specific ones break at half the standard for climbing (11kN instead of the MINIMUM recommended of 20kN). For your own sake get some proper rated ones.
My steel carabiners hold 11,240 pounds and my aluminum ones hold 5,000 lbs. these are all high quality Petzl, Rock exotica. I trust these with my life, it’s why I use them.
@@vvddisquoas someone that has rock climbing gear, being round (vs forged) the way they look makes me immediately think they are not human rated. Could easily be wrong but they don’t look strong. There is a reason proper gear is expensive.
You may have a point-but just to make sure, lets compare his design/build to yours first-the one that *YOU* designed/built. You know, the model that *isn't* void of all the "improvements" you *definitely see.* You do have a link to your video; right?
@@DanKoning777 I don't need one, and if I needed one, I don't have a reason to record it. I can make a cad model for you to make it and compare with his? You know, to your channel where you're definitely making things instead of making autistic arguments only autists think are smart? You're cringe btw.
@@DanKoning777Not the point, if this it to be used as a fall arrester (as they demonstrated in this video) then this project is a safety hazard, not safety equipment.
wtf with that "dynamic" camerawork ? constant moving from left to right, zoom in and out, up and down , man, i gott terrible motion sickness looking at these "dynamic" video,s. its a pitty because i like the content, but now i,m gonna unsubscribe because i cant watch it without getting sick. i hope you change your dynamic camerawork in the future, so i can watch it again. cheers ben.
... Have to admit, the convenience of it just keeping something suspended where you left it, I feel, is an unexplored one. People rely on just a winch normally. This is like, an analogue winch?
Technically, it would be classified as a "fall arrester". The design indicates that it should be able to be used to prevent (or arrest) falls from heights In the United States, OSHA, (Occupational and Safety Hazard Administration) states that any height above 6ft should have a fall arrester and a safety harness However, much like other comments, this device should not be used for such a task as it doesn't operate in the same manner and some of the accessories they bought are not rated adequately

First 14 minutes:" Wth is he building??"
14:00 " Ohhhh THAT'S what it is :D "
One day, he's going to get a spray booth, & I'm going to fall off my chair in amazement.
Be sure to have as many kids as possible, we need more people like you to even the balances ❤
Let me give you some advice. If you put automotive soundproofing on a part that is not machined, you won't hear that monstrous howl 5:54
