It isn't some mythical place like it sounds, unless you are a Surfer/Skater. As it's the former surf spot of the Dogtown Z-Boys and plays a huge role in the history of skateboarding. Most people don't know that. You would have had to live in the area in the 60's-70's when they finally demolished the pier. It was a great place to grow up. The Rose parking lot on the Venice side is where tweakers and bike thieves have been congregating for years. Watch the movie "Lords of Dogtown" or the "Dogtown Z-boys documentary." The condemned pier is the surfing focal point and shows the grittiness of the area in the 70's. when it was finally removed it left a large empty piece of beach between Santa Monica and Venice Beach. Bums started calling it that about 25 years ago...

it is inbetween Santa Monica and Venice beach borders so if running from LAPD you can cross the border into Santa Monica and vice versa and the police will probs stop chasing you. That place attracts gangs, criminals and people on hard drugs and is extra sketchy!
