Runway 380 he said?
"Taxi via A, 380" LOL
Extra dimensional pilot :)
If runway 36 is heading 360°, due north, then runway 380 must be heading 3800°, accessed by spinning around in circles 10 times, plus 200° more and stagger off roughly to the SW? It would explain why he's dizzy. 😂
@@DaddyBeanDaddyBean would actually just be heading 020º

ATC saved his life for sure!
And possibly others too.

For real. That’s a voice of someone who is 6+ drinks beyond drunk.

@@DavidWsTrainVideos Geez. That's probably enough for a vampire to get drunk off his blood!
@@DavidWsTrainVideos And it usually takes an hour or two to get either a calibrated breath test or a blood draw, so his BAC was higher when he was at the controls!
Better to lose your license than your life. Good on that controller for recognizing the man was smashed and acted accordingly. Too many GA crashes lately. Tragedy diverted.
Well said. I would add ..... its better to not do anything stupid like show up drunk trying to fly.... throwing away all that time and money spent earning the right to fly because of an unwise decision where this guy SHOULD HAVE STAYED at home and get smashed instead. Very poor judgement that cost this guy EVERYTHING!!!!
@@nal2us2 I'm always baffled at these situations. What are the pilot's thinking? Are they so full of confidence and arrogance to think they can get away with it? No self-awareness, or foresight? Or maybe there is some external pressures in their lives which has led to a series of bad decisions? It is strange that, like you said, one would willingly jeopardize all the time, money, and effort put into obtaining their PPL in such a way.
Not being a drinking man all I can say is this was EXTREMELY POOR JUDGEMENT on the part of the now... Ex-Pilot. I am studying right now for my PPL but the last thing I am going to do is something stupid even if I DID DRINK!!!! I dont get it.@@therealajnelson
*averted, not "diverted"
Actually, it's possible the tragedy was in fact diverted rather than averted, to a drunk driving wreck as opposed to a plane wreck, for example.
"Are you familiar with the airport ?"
Somewhat familiar tower ....there are 3 bars in the terminal !"
It's unusual to see a red eye flight during daylight hours.
This already happened on the 27th of April 2017. The aircraft, a 1964 Mooney M20E registration N7828V, was at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport at Broomfield, Colorado. The pilot had a breath analyzer test which gave a result of a .20 BAC or the equivalent of 200mg per 100ml ethanol in his blood. The airport informed him that their hangar lease was terminated immediately. The aircraft was subsequently sold to a new private owner in Arizona, who had nothing to do with this incident. Both controllers were nominated for an Archie, the NATCA annual medal of safety award.
Technically all these recordings "already happened" but I get your point, this is an old one. For some reason all these ATC audio youtube channels are copying each other and recycling this old incident these last few weeks.
Ah! I thought I was having extreme déjà vu!
@@calcutronsmith9198 But if it's recorded before it's recorded, it's prerecorded.
I looked the guy up, and it appears he didn't learn, he got a DUI in late 2023 in Texas.

I have a country sound to my voice so when ATC gets to talking real fast I just throw a little more twang at them at a slower pace and they slow it down to 3rd grade level for me. Try it! It works!

He refused a breathalyzer test until arrested and brought to the station, where he agreed to the test. It came out 0.20. For drunk driving in CO the limit is 0.08. He was plastered.
Better plastered and in jail than plastered all over the real estate......
For a car, it's 0.08. I understand for a PPL, it's 0.04. He was waaaaay over either one.
Oh, and I looked him up, it appears he got a DUI in a car in late 2023 in Texas. Still doing the same thing, didn't learn.
anything over 0.04 has consequences for maintaining pilot's certificate. @@dave30076
@@dave30076 I'm a bit confused by the rules in the USA (I'm not a pilot); the FAA says no alcohol consumption within 8 hours of flying, but the BAC limit is 0.04. Is that correct? In Australia and Europe, the BAC is 0.02.
Ah yes the old 8 bottles 1 hour to throttle.
I'm guessing that audio came straight off the tower's console, probably used as evidence.
Definitely looks like the tapes. I was submitted it.

well that's one helluva way to lose your pilot's license
This may be an old recording, but how ATC managed to stay calm, have enough time to summon assistance is a real skill.
I think he had an "Instructor" alright...Jack....Jack Daniels
Ah the infamous,
"is their an instructor on board?", question.
This happened in April 2017 and was featured in the 2018 Archie awards. Please include the date in the video and update the source in the description.
@bremy72 --- Why? The incident is new to anyone that has never heard / seen it before. People need to be reminded of the worst legal drug there is. Thanks to Vasa Aviation for putting this on You Tube! Boozers are losers!
He was drunk, but please don't forget that slurring, difficulty standing, and an alcohol-like smell on the breath are also signs of diabetic ketoacidosis. If the pilot had been suffering from that, ATC would also have saved his life.
First responders are usually trained to ask if a person has a history of diabetes or medical issues for situations like this.
But not holding a whisky bottle !!!
This is correct. ATC saved this mans life, either from himself or from a medical emergency. Was clearly in no position to be flying no matter what was happening
You're right, but he was arrested, and his BAC was 0.20, which is well above the automotive limit of 0.08 and (I believe) the PPL limit of 0.04. They did check, though. And, this guy appears to be still at it, a DUI in Texas in late 2023.
Or a stroke. We had that video on this channel with the controller who turned out to have a stroke while on the air, it sounded very similar to a drunk person.
ATC saved that dude's life. If it had been an uncontrolled airport he would have probably gotten himself killed.
And anybody on the ground's life.
LOL! 380 huh? Great catch by ATC. I thought he might be having a stroke, the real answer is disappointing, and not a cause for sympathy. ATC probably saved his life, and maybe other people's too.
Sort of the opposite happened to a Vegas controller -- it was pretty obvious the pilots thought she was drunk, but she was having a stroke. I think the video is on this channel.
Even people who aren’t pilots know runways are numbered only from 1 to 36.
Oh my god, he can’t even repeat words and he thought he could fly a plane?!
They don't call it liquid courage for nothing.
Did they detect blood in his alcohol system?
I remember looking this up. If I recall right he blew something crazy like a .20!
😱😱@@loupgarou95
GREAT WORK Rocky Mountain Metro!!! Thank you for preventing a tragedy and giving aviation yet another black eye that is not needed right now! PROPS to the ATC of Colorado!!! WooHoo!!!
I agree with everything you said except the "right now"' part. This incident happened in 2017.
As a guy who drinks a lot (responsibly): dang this guy was hammered
This reminded me of an incident a few years ago - a JAL pilot was arrested and jailed in London for attempting to board and fly an airliner with a BAC of 0.189. It's one thing to kill yourself through stupidity, but risking taking a plane full of people with you shows that he couldn't be trusted as a pilot anymore.
This reminds me of what you hear with a hypoxic pilot (those are some nail biting audios, for sure, but you know they “clear up” as soon as they get the plane to a lower altitude). So glad they stopped this guy! Can’t imagine what he was thinking.
How on earth! I cant believe such a demeanor. The TWR did an amnzg job alerting the cops.
1st word i knew already he was drunk😅😂
He taxied to whiskey...
Thank God he was not allowed to depart !!!
The "over" gave it away 🤭
Yep, way over!
This is quite old, from 2017(18?). There is a transcript online. That plane is still registered as airworthy, in spite of (pilot's? pilots'?) attempts to auger in by the jammed flashlight in 2011 and by following information Wiskey in 2017.
So this guy was my student back when I was a CFI. I gave him his PPL instruction in 7828V. And I was the pilot with the aileron jam in KPIE. I've got the ATC audio from that incident, I've even sent it to vasa but they've never replied to me.
The plane, airworthy. The pilot, not so much!
Damn, that wasn’t just drunk, that was Barney drunk. Only thing missing was the belches
Something tells me this guys doesn't understand "8 hours bottle to throttle".
He probably thinks you can be on the throttle for 8 hours, as long as you got a bottle.
As said in a previous comment, it’s 8 bottles, one hour to throttle.
@@thomasaltrudaexactly haha
@@thomasaltruda
Or just 8 bottles by the throttle.
Speech and behavior like that is not always indication of intoxication. I've seen someone go through a minor stroke and that's exactly what it sounded like, even though the person claimed that everything was just fine.
Yeah. But I don't hear any accusation from the ATC. He just wants to hear clear readback, and then send somebody to check on the pilot. The subsequent test revealed which of these options it was
Good call to the ground controller on this one. Either drunk, on drugs, or having a medical emergency, but either way, not fit to fly, and should have someone investigate. Good call.
Yep. In this case it was apparently alcohol, but it could have been a stroke. Glad they investigated.
i mean, yes but what else could the controller have done? the pilot was not reading back correctly so ATC could never give clearance for takeoff.
Cudos to ATC for recognizing the impairment and saving this guy’s life.
I believe this occurred on April 27, 2017.
The pilot ended up blowing a .207 BAC.
