When bo was talking about how much of a privilege it is (for him) to have young fans, because we look up to him and might even learn from him, it made me sooooo happy. Because 1) people are always putting down young people And 2) I’m thirteen, and I’ve genuinely learned so much from him. What a parasocial relationship is, what he believes to be the truth about what free will actually is (which altered my opinion because he had such a strong case), that you are hardly ever seeing the real version of anyone because we’re constantly “performing”, and so much more. Ugh, I love bo a lot and it’s great to see how he feels about everything including us.
If you're 13(I assume 15 now) and are thinking on that level......you're on the right track. I'm 37 and love Pete and Bo so much. Their genuine honest open intelligent conversations are deeply important to me. But I think when I was 13.....it might have gone over my head. Then again, I never had _anything_ like this back then. You're lucky to have access to this sort of content at your age. But you also seem smart and aware enough to appreciate it. Hi Greta! I stumbled across your comment and I’m curious how you’re doing now that some time has passed. Have you watched Bo’s new special, and if so, what did you think? I’m a generation X person who has been a fan of Bo since he started on TH-cam and it’s been so fun watching him grow up. Since he’s younger than me, I’ve had a kind of jocular, “little brother” view of him for a long time, even though he’s so much more insightful and wise than I am. I have learned so much from watching him too. Also, what did you think of his movie, 8th Grade? Did you watch it when it came out? And have you watched it since you started high school? (I don’t know a lot of young people, and your comment sounded like you are pretty well rounded and self aware, especially for a teenager, so I’d be interested to hear your thoughts).
@@marybeth808 hello! not the original commenter but i am a 14 yr old fan of bo, so i thought i might answer. inside was a perfect piece of media for me. its themes of isolation, the internet, and mental heath were handled perfectly and eloquently, especially as someone who is struggling with all of those things. it made me take a step back and examine how social media was impacting my mental health and it was actually the thing that made me quit social media altogether. its been a kind of weird adjusting but i think its going to help me in the long run to focus on myself. i would definitely come back to it in the future when i have improved myself more. as for eighth grade, i only saw it maybe a month or two ago, and i just graduated eighth grade so it was kind of the perfect time to do so. it was definitely the most realistic portrayal of teenagers i’ve ever seen in media. there were so many times where i would just say “yup i’ve had a panic attack right before a party” or “oh i’ve been the only girl at a party to wear a one piece swimsuit” or “yeah i’ve spent hours on my phone at night with my leds on”. as much as i adore these works, i’m not really sure if i could ever watch them in full again, cause they hit so so close to home, but i suppose that really just shows how brilliant they both are

I'm so glad you watched 8th Grade, it was so hilariously/pitifully illustrated, and it brought back so many feelings for me. Bo after every intelligent, introspective and thought provoking stream of consciousness with specific examples: "um, I don't know, I don't know" like dude, you DO know. A lot better than most public figures, atleast! Also, really cool to see his thoughts and opinions inspiring him for Inside.
The depth of his analysis of culture, social media and true happiness is so much more refreshing and insightful that any other interview he's done for eighth grade. Bo talking about his film, before it was even made, is far better than his commentary of it after the fact. This is why the film succeeded so much - vision!

He mentions things like Deadpool (That Funny Feeling) in a lot of interviews, and on The Green Room he mentions being influenced by an absurdist comedian who uses a sock puppet (That's How The World Works) and some others. It's like a bunch of little easter eggs from the past!

I even read a 2018 New Yorker article that said he told a one-liner on stage about how pirates should take better care of their maps. It made me smile. The thoughtfulness, cleverness, and intentionality in his work is impressive, never mind his musical and artistic talent. He deserves every one of those Emmy nominations.
The two of you have put so many of my own emotions and ideas into words. You are one of the most level headed people I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. This was amazing.

I know this is like three months old, but I have to make a comment on their discussion on the way media has become mostly about catching the attention of people NOW rather than making good content for the sake of being timeless?? ? This is something that I think about all the time regarding the animation industry. It's such a shame to see that so many animated films these days are trying to pander to the easiest, most capitalistic parts of society, rather than creating heartfelt and true stories that could remain timeless for generations. It's all about the references and whatever is hip in the moment. It makes it seem as though these studios are treating children like they're these stupid, mindless drones, and not real, developing people who are smarter and more impressionable than we realize. I mean, look at something like The Minions or Sing! in comparison to the timeless beauty of Studio Ghibli films. Ghibli tells really incredible stories, taking chances with slow pacing and small moments, as well as including really mature themes?? ? And children LOVE them,dist and those films STUCK WITH US because of how real and timeless they are. Idk man. Even Disney's Frozen could have stayed a timeless classic if they hadn't kicked a dead horse with the marketing and constant product distribution of it. this conversation reminded me how gross it is that feminism has become trendy. If you go an a late night show and say vague shit like "I support women", everybody cheers and loses their mind. You don't even have to do anything. In the information age, it's enough to be a twitter-advocate in order to be loved. People believe your word more than your actions. It started when people declared feminism on behalf of other people. When they claimed that being for the equality of the sexes was somehow enough. Turns out, it isn't. You actually have to live by that and respect both genders equally on a day to day basis. And the worst was, when everybody got offended about Ivanka Trump's book, because it claimed to be feminist, when it actually wasn't. How did you not expect that already? Did you really believe her words when she claimed to stand up for women? What bullshit! Just look at her life, what she's done so far and you'll see that she never was a women's-rights activist in the first place. The MeToo movement has the same problem. People want to be advocats and be affiliated with it, because it's trendy and chic right now. But for sure not everyone behaves in a way that aligns with the message. It's not enough to wear black or a pin on your jackett and you definitely don't deserve high praise for it. Just deliver!

Also- sorry for the long comments- But RE: Commodifying yourself- It's like that as an artist. People who watch me make a piece, they are more likely to want THAT piece or something special they saw me make. When I was in college one of the classes I took was just about selling yourself as a person. Tell them you are from 'Indiana', tell them you grew up in x place and you did all these things. It's still hard for me, to this day to put a lot of that information about myself on profiles. I have a super fucking hard time with that, I don't want people to buy my art because I'm a woman or a streamer or because I live in a certain town or because I had a traumatic childhood and I talk about it in my videos, but those are the exact same things that draw me to follow and purchase from others, but at the same time, I feel like I should warn people about my content because it can get pretty serious and some don't understand why I make art the way I do, so it automatically comes up when I'm streaming. It's so hard, because my art is my way to remember things (and recover lost memory from a very murky past), it's how I deal with PTSD. It's very hard for me to turn that into monetization or a thing to sell. These days I refuse to sell anything any my art journals, because those are the most personal things and my literal memories. It also makes it really hard for me to write music with other people because it's so deeply personal. I honestly don't know how full time professional artists and musicians do it. In some ways I'd like to be anonymous and completely separate the things I need to say from 'WHO' I am, but I've lived a very public online life for 20+ years.

i can relate on so many levels man. bo's perspective on the perception of weed and it's potential effects on us is so insightful and resonance with me. today i am attempting to commit to not smoking at all; i am forcing myself to not have any gear or paraphernalia accessible in my home which i know will help; im also sharing my efforts with my friend in hopes he can help keep my accountable. it ultimately comes from within myself, but resources like this and Bo's simple way to put it is motivating and reassuring. weed in itself is not an evil, but our anxiety, environment, and habitual patterns can turn it into an evil within our minds, without us realizing.
duuuude, he is so dead on, and especially about how everyone went way too far the other direction. I was a 90's stoner, but then would go through periods of a year or more where i didn't touch it bc it was just nbd--illegal, not as easy to get, not that strong anyway so who cares. Then in my 30's when I had more serious jobs I really started smoking everyday. It was waaay stronger by then, and I could make a $20 gram last a really long time while still smoking every night after work. Then it becomes legal, and while I still just bought joints and grams usually, I smoked every night. Earlier on the weekends, always when i wanted to watch a movie, tv show, play music, had any chores to do, or any chronic pain. Basically became a daily stoner for 10 years. Quit three times since age 40--once for 3 months, once for 6, and now I'm at another 3 month mark. Everytime I fell off the wagon I would immediately go back to smoking everyday. Then it would be a few months before I woke up and realized, then a difficult couple weeks to quit again. What Bo says about it being so "ok" or not harmful to do is dead on--it doesn't "hurt" to do it every night like alcohol does, until you realize it does.
I feel so content just listening to him. It's such a relief. This is the conversation- it isn't even me thinking bo is great- it's everything about the whole podcast. It's every single evil in the world that NEVER gets addressed. I am actually at peace listening to him. This is the climax.
Something that he talks about- making art for the point of it, is something I've been doing online for nearly 20 years. I started sharing art, body painting and adult content as a personal outlet (and a way to connect with people because of my agorophobia and PTSD) and got into streaming before things like TH-cam and twitch existed. I still stream my art, to a very small audience, and it's because I don't advertise to try to sell what I'm making or going viral. I don't have any corporate branding and I don't attempt to make specific things just for views. Not everyone can afford to do that though. The reality is that people like Bo could easily lift up smaller creators who are doing the kinds of things he talks about. He's the one with the power now.

I would not have comented, but i disagree, in that i feel certain that the movements and interrelationships of all of the significantly massive objects in our solar system do control all of the myriad cycles that make up our environment. You may be correct that the mostly forgotten ancient science that horroscopes are made from has become more like a superstition then an actual science, but i would argue that somehow, in some energetic way, the positions of the planets, moons, and sun in relation to our own is one of the largest influences upon our lives. I certainly do not expect you to believe me but if you are willing to open yourself to the consideration of this, then it will be possible for me to have given you something of value as you both have given me something of value through what you have said for the past three hours. He mentions things like Deadpool (That Funny Feeling) in a lot of interviews, and on The Green Room he mentions being influenced by an absurdist comedian who uses a sock puppet (That's How The World Works) and some others. It's like a bunch of little easter eggs from the past!
@@auracle6184 It's been an adventure listening to old interviews and getting to know Bo. Inside is like the culmination of ideas and opinions he's had for years. I even read a 2018 New Yorker article that said he told a one-liner on stage about how pirates should take better care of their maps. It made me smile. The thoughtfulness, cleverness, and intentionality in his work is impressive, never mind his musical and artistic talent. He deserves every one of those Emmy nominations.
The two of you have put so many of my own emotions and ideas into words. You are one of the most level headed people I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. This was amazing.

I know this is like three months old, but I have to make a comment on their discussion on the way media has become mostly about catching the attention of people NOW rather than making good content for the sake of being timeless?? ? This is something that I think about all the time regarding the animation industry. It's such a shame to see that so many animated films these days are trying to pander to the easiest, most capitalistic parts of society, rather than creating heartfelt and true stories that could remain timeless for generations. It's all about the references and whatever is hip in the moment. It makes it seem as though these studios are treating children like they're these stupid, mindless drones, and not real, developing people who are smarter and more impressionable than we realize. I mean, look at something like The Minions or Sing! in comparison to the timeless beauty of Studio Ghibli films. Ghibli tells really incredible stories, taking chances with slow pacing and small moments, as well as including really mature themes?? ? And children LOVE them,dist and those films STUCK WITH US because of how real and timeless they are. Idk man. Even Disney's Frozen could have stayed a timeless classic if they hadn't kicked a dead horse with the marketing and constant product distribution of it.

this conversation reminded me how gross it is that feminism has become trendy. If you go an a late night show and say vague shit like "I support women", everybody cheers and loses their mind. You don't even have to do anything. In the information age, it's enough to be a twitter-advocate in order to be loved. People believe your word more than your actions. It started when people declared feminism on behalf of other people. When they claimed that being for the equality of the sexes was somehow enough. Turns out, it isn't. You actually have to live by that and respect both genders equally on a day to day basis. And the worst was, when everybody got offended about Ivanka Trump's book, because it claimed to be feminist, when it actually wasn't. How did you not expect that already? Did you really believe her words when she claimed to stand up for women? What bullshit! Just look at her life, what she's done so far and you'll see that she never was a women's-rights activist in the first place. The MeToo movement has the same problem. People want to be advocats and be affiliated with it, because it's trendy and chic right now. But for sure not everyone behaves in a way that aligns with the message. It's not enough to wear black or a pin on your jackett and you definitely don't deserve high praise for it. Just deliver!

It's like that as an artist. People who watch me make a piece, they are more likely to want THAT piece or something special they saw me make. When I was in college one of the classes I took was just about selling yourself as a person. Tell them you are from 'Indiana', tell them you grew up in x place and you did all these things. It's still hard for me, to this day to put a lot of that information about myself on profiles.
I have a super fucking hard time with that, I don't want people to buy my art because I'm a woman or a streamer or because I live in a certain town or because I had a traumatic childhood and I talk about it in my videos, but those are the exact same things that draw me to follow and purchase from others, but at the same time, I feel like I should warn people about my content because it can get pretty serious and some don't understand why I make art the way I do, so it automatically comes up when I'm streaming.
It's so hard, because my art is my way to remember things (and recover lost memory from a very murky past), it's how I deal with PTSD. It's very hard for me to turn that into monetization or a thing to sell. These days I refuse to sell anything any my art journals, because those are the most personal things and my literal memories.
It also makes it really hard for me to write music with other people because it's so deeply personal. I honestly don't know how full time professional artists and musicians do it. In some ways I'd like to be anonymous and completely separate the things I need to say from 'WHO' I am, but I've lived a very public online life for 20+ years.

That weed topic around 13minutes hit me, I realize weed isnt addictive but I unfortunately have gotten into the habbit of smoking almost every day for the last two years and I do do it muuuuch more then I should, its hard to quit when you use it for every little thing like "oh shit I need to do house chores, better smoke first" or similar excuses just to convince myself its alright to do it often, Its easer to quit when its not in the house but when I do have it in the house I will smoke every night
i can relate on so many levels man. bo's perspective on the perception of weed and it's potential effects on us is so insightful and resonance with me. today i am attempting to commit to not smoking at all; i am forcing myself to not have any gear or paraphernalia accessible in my home which i know will help; im also sharing my efforts with my friend in hopes he can help keep my accountable. it ultimately comes from within myself, but resources like this and Bo's simple way to put it is motivating and reassuring. weed in itself is not an evil, but our anxiety, environment, and habitual patterns can turn it into an evil within our minds, without us realizing.
duuuude, he is so dead on, and especially about how everyone went way too far the other direction. I was a 90's stoner, but then would go through periods of a year or more where i didn't touch it bc it was just nbd--illegal, not as easy to get, not that strong anyway so who cares. Then in my 30's when I had more serious jobs I really started smoking everyday. It was waaay stronger by then, and I could make a $20 gram last a really long time while still smoking every night after work. Then it becomes legal, and while I still just bought joints and grams usually, I smoked every night. Earlier on the weekends, always when i wanted to watch a movie, tv show, play music, had any chores to do, or any chronic pain. Basically became a daily stoner for 10 years. Quit three times since age 40--once for 3 months, once for 6, and now I'm at another 3 month mark. Everytime I fell off the wagon I would immediately go back to smoking everyday. Then it would be a few months before I woke up and realized, then a difficult couple weeks to quit again. What Bo says about it being so "ok" or not harmful to do is dead on--it doesn't "hurt" to do it every night like alcohol does, until you realize it does.

I feel so content just listening to him. It's such a relief. This is the conversation- it isn't even me thinking bo is great- it's everything about the whole podcast. It's every single evil in the world that NEVER gets addressed. I am actually at peace listening to him. This is the climax.
Something that he talks about- making art for the point of it, is something I've been doing online for nearly 20 years. I started sharing art, body painting and adult content as a personal outlet (and a way to connect with people because of my agorophobia and PTSD) and got into streaming before things like TH-cam and twitch existed. I still stream my art, to a very small audience, and it's because I don't advertise to try to sell what I'm making or going viral. I don't have any corporate branding and I don't attempt to make specific things just for views.
Not everyone can afford to do that though.
The reality is that people like Bo could easily lift up smaller creators who are doing the kinds of things he talks about. He's the one with the power now.
Omg i can't believe some people actually called bo "coward" for not talking about gender issues dude he was respectful. He said he doesn't wanna talk about it cause he isn't qualified for it. He's not much knowledgeable on this issue so he stepped back, instead of stating non factual or ignorant things which is nice of him. Because this is a public platform and you should be careful about what you say cause it could harm a certain community of people.
as a trans person i totally agree with the way he has reacted. people don’t have to express they opinion on everything, that can sometimes do more harm than good. i personally appreciate how he approached it and don’t understand why people call him coward for doing such.

I would not have comented, but i disagree, in that i feel certain that the movements and interrelationships of all of the significantly massive objects in our solar system do control all of the myriad cycles that make up our environment. You may be correct that the mostly forgotten ancient science that horroscopes are made from has become more like a superstition then an actual science, but i would argue that somehow, in some energetic way, the positions of the planets, moons, and sun in relation to our own is one of the largest influences upon our lives. I certainly do not expect you to believe me but if you are willing to open yourself to the consideration of this, then it will be possible for me to have given you something of value as you both have given me something of value through what you have said for the past three hours.
