  • Hi everyone, hope you are well,
In this video I’m making a new spoil board for my CNC and squaring out the X gantry to Y axis using maths.
My CNC has footprint of 1500mm in Y and 1000mm in X but the cutting area is only 1200x 820, where I will install the spoil boards.
The design is made up of 6 individual boards cut to the same dimension and hole layout. This made machining and placement much easier. It will also be easy to replace a board if it is ripped up.
The work holding consist of “Tracks”, T bolts and T nuts with hold down clams. I’m also using Bench dogs to square any workpiece placed on the spoil board, for quick and easy Off set referencing. With multiple Bench hole placements, I can add several offsets in MACH4 and save it for different operations.
The spoil board is made from 16mm MDF since that is what I could from suppliers at the time of making it. Cutting is done with 8mm Upcut bit and did leave a clean edge on the MDF.
Credit and thanks go out to @CorbinDunn and @JayBates for their videos and design tips in making spoil boards. I’m sharing their video links below. Really good videos if you are thinking of making a spoil board for your CNC.
