Proud American here but typical American thought process. Still bragging about successful wars from the 1940s. Every American soldier with true war experience is retired. Every active soldier today lacks modern war experience. It's been over 70 years since an American soldier sank another warship or shot down a modern aircraft lol and we got comments making fun of other countries' lack of experience when we have none also. All of our experiences are old and expired. We never seen a country with nukes, submarines, or even drones before. The 2016 "Tribunal ruling" by the PCA was brought by the Philippines at the instigation of the USA and its ruling has NO VALIDITY for the following reasons:
The PCA is not a UN body and exceeded its authority in this matter.
The arbitration ruling is non binding as China refused to be a participant in this sham / scam.
The PCA ruling is in contravention of "The Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties" which states that a later ruling cannot override or extinguish the rights of a member state's claims in an earlier treaty.
UNCLOS explicitly recognizes the continuing validity of historical claims long before the disputing countries were sovereign entities.
China’s historical claims, going back many centuries, are well recorded both in Chinese and non-Chinese documents (eg. Vietnam's 1958 agreement). China has consistently exercised sovereignty over the islands and reefs as well as the surrounding waters in the South China Sea. Therefore China has prior and rightful claims in the SCS.

The PCA is constituted through two separate multilateral conventions with a combined membership of 122 Contracting Parties but, as you say, it is not a UN agency, it is independent and this independence was agreed to by the 122 contracting Parties of the UN. It is an intergovernmental organization that provides dispute resolution services to the international community and I don't know how it is attached, perhaps you do, but to recieve any benefits in the UN converntions by signing the conventions through representation at the UN, automatically, to benefit, the nation must agree that other nations, including themselves have the right to defend their perspective through representation in a court of law, and that court of law was extablished as the PCA It has unparalleled experience in the administration of inter-State dispute resolution proceedings concerning oceans and the law of the sea. To benefit from the UNCLOS, the signator MUST agree if there is debate, then they MUST allow any signatory the right to bring any other signatory to the PCA. It was agreed but I don't know if it was a seperated document or inclusive with China's signing of UNCLOS. Interestingly, the USA is not a signatory and has not ratified it. So the USA can go whereever it wants. China should never have signed and there are penalties for breaking the agreement which included "BINDING" decission by PCA if There Was Any Disagreement. Now the PCA has recognized judges. China should know who the judges are an how they are chosen. If they disagree, then they should have petitioned for correction. You can't storm out of a court and claim corruption. If you do, a person is automatically considered guilty.
