- The Philippine military said that the Chinese coast guard rammed and boarded Filipino navy boats in the South China Sea on June 17. A Filipino Naval Special Operations Group member aboard the Filipino boat lost a thumb when the Chinese vessel landed on top of the bow. The incident took place off Second Thomas Shoal which hosts a tiny Philippine garrison stationed on a deliberately beached old warship. The incident is the latest in a series of escalating confrontations between Chinese and Philippine ships in recent months. On June 19, China defended what it called "professional and restrained" steps taken against Philippine ships. Watch the video to find out more.

Filipino citizens are also frustrated with this. The directive to our coastguards and armed forces is maximum tolerance. We in our country understand that we have a huge limitation if ever a war happens, but it's frustrating to see that our coastguards can't even defend themselves and think other ways to prevent Chinese bullying.
They are ordered not to escalate things. But time will come when the Philippines will have enough of it. That would mean war because the US and Philippines have a mutual defense treaty.

I am a Filipino. I salute the bravery of our navy seal. The best thing for us is to sit and talk the conditions of the Chinese they want to prevent further escalation. I am not favor with a War.
