Nevada law does not allow casino workers to gamble in the same place they work. A simple solution would be to prohibit clerks who sell such tickets from being able to cash them in.

That’s already a thing. Lottery apps allow you to scan your ticket’s bar code to see if it’s a winner. And a lot of places like gas stations and convenient stores that sell tickets do have machines where you can verify winning tickets yourself. I’ve even seen one at Walmart.

If someone wins at my job i always print two receipts showing the winning total. One for paperwork at the end of the night and one for the customer. For this reason. i had a customer swear she won $20 but when i scanned it,it said the prize was already claimed. She told me i was lying, so i took a picture of the ticket and computer screen, just to document everythimg and i gave her ticket back, and told her to come back to see my boss. She ended up comimg back the next day to speak to my boss and tried to have me fired saying i took her money. When my boss scanned her ticket again, she invited her to look at the screen showing it said "prize already claimed". She still thought i stole her money.Thank god my boss has a good,clear camera facing the lotto machine,showing i didn't take nothimg when she ran the cameras back🙏🏽😪 My boss said believe it not people try to take money using a ticket they already claimed the money off of. And if i woulda gave her the money amd the drawer was short, it woulda came out my check.😭
Scan the tickets yourself.. I don't trust ANYONE who has the opportunity to scam me. I also only buy my instant tickets from a machine.. No human contact after the roll is put in so no chance to be scammed.
In California, I've never heard the terminals make a "winning sound." In any event, most retailers have self-service scanners to verify if your ticket is a winner. If I happen to have a super-duper-lotto-millions ticket, after checking it online and if I'm a winner, it's off to the lotto office for me, even if it's 100 miles away. Your local food mart doesn't carry suitcases full of money to pay large jackpots. :/

then you'd walk away thinking you only won $50 and the clerk pockets the difference. that's why i always double check my tickets on the app.
