The fact this guy literally tried to kill himself half way through the fight helping you rid the plague that has spread across this world. Hollow Knight is one of the best games because of the story, art style, combat, and most importantly characters that can really pull n your heart strings
I also really likes that the music change just as he start stabbing himself, changing the atmosphere entirely. I really likes how the Sealed Vessel get some depth just with the way he fight and with the music. It's both impressive and touching.
Ghast the Otaku Imo I see it as him trying to get rid of the corruption from him because it's painful and can't bear it anymore. The radiance never took over the vessel, it's just restrained within.
Ghast the Otaku Because that's what they were created for, to contain the corruption. They couldn't allow anyone to remove the corruption from them, but at the same time the vessel couldn't handle the pain either.
The hollow knight was designed by the king to be a perfect void to contain and usurp the Radiance. The problem was that the current hollow knight was not perfect and the Radiance was able to leak out. The conflicting nature of the king and the Radiance was what lead to the plague of madness that spread across the kingdom. That is why a new hollow knight needed to be born. But this time the hollow knight would not contain the Radiance, but instead usurp it like the king had so long ago.
I saw it as The Hollow Knight trying to stab himself to kill himself and allow The Knight to kill him faster. The infection makes the victim unable to act on its own free will and makes them go primal.
I think the second phase really hit me hard. It went from "oh shit epic boss finale", to "oh no.. he's in pain and wants to die" I don't think I've ever teared up during a boss fight like that before.

I love how intense yet tragic this theme sounds. I think it shows you that the infection takes over one's body against their will and that even though they're trying to fight back, they simply can't. A good example is Myla. She gives out a cry that can only be described as anguished when you kill her, which makes you realise that although she tried to hurt you, she was still Myla on the inside. The same can be said for Hollow Knight. Simply a vessel who wanted to love his father and live a normal, happy life until sealed within the Black Egg and corrupted beyond help. Truly a dark, depressing game.

No, i think the main philosophy of the game is light/truth is not sustainable for everyone, one who had the power to conceal the painful truth must bear the weight of their past, like the knight learning about the circumstances of it's birth, to no avail the knight was able to enclose the harsh reality for others and recover the lost will of truthfulness in hallownest even if the truth oppose the will of truthfulness itself since the will of life isnt always the will of knowledge. When a father hides the reality of his son's past, the father must bear the truth and carry it to deminish it's existence, Ignorance is bliss, but to know is not always best.
You go in expecting the Hollow Knight to be something grand and epic (pure vessel), and you get this ragged figure barely clinging onto its existence that gradually loses the ability to fight you and even tries to kill itself to help you defeat it. This conflicts so beautifully with the song, it delivers the message that something isn’t right.
This is easily my favorite song in the whole game. Even more so than Grimm's theme and even Nightmare King. This isn't just the final boss theme. It's a funeral dirge for the Hollow Knight. And you are the one who must end his suffering. I also really like how the latter half of this theme is also the theme for the Path of Pain. Now, your obstacles include buzzsaws, spikes, Wingmoulds, malevolent architecture, and your own tears.

I think the easiest method uses the Nailmaster Charm and max nail upgrade which lets you one shot almost all flying enemies. Good luck on that, and thanks for the help!
I'm not sure because I tried so many different Charms, but yeah I think Nailmaster was really usefull (whereas I didn't use it for the rest of the game). And then probably life blood charms, maybe with hiveblood but that starts making a lot of points :P

To me what's so sad about the second phase isn't as much the fact that they're in pain. It's that even after every single thing the Pale King did. Even after everything they saw him do to their siblings (the Knight included), even after raising him to be a mere tool They're *still* trying to contain the infection. It's as if they think the "Idea Instilled" that corrupted them and made them a weak vessel wasn't the King's fault, but their own. Like they have to sacrifice themselves to take the Radiance with them and save a kindom that doesn't exist anymore, to honour a father that never cared about them. Like they, above everything else, are the Hollow Knight, and if their death saves them the humilliation of not being *enough* , of not being able to do the very thing they were created to do, then so be it.
BTW when u say his father did care, well it is wrong. There are alot of moments that say how sad pale King and white lady were while doing this. I mean then mom locked her self up for that sole reason. And when u beat path of pain u see a moment Lil knight and king vibeing like crazy

Basically the hollow knight was not hollow because the king gave him a duty to save the world. He really wanted to save hollownest but just the idea of it made him not hollow.

oh lord the pain is so clear here and the way the music turns with it is incredible.. great way to invoke emotion and really make the player feel the story to their core. I was never much into this style of games but I stumbled upon it on, one of my favourite streamers doing a variety stream, the music was so good. I remember thinking I have to play this. even if only for the music fast forward a few months later and its done and I cant wait for Silk Song. This song above all really sold me on the game and the rendition used for path of pain just feels right

Ingstruments and orchhestral forces swell over you as you approach the end. The world has been crafted with pure perfection as it teaches you not by tutorial, rather by game design. A secret area provides a true platforming challenge for veterans in the genre. Sure PUBG is good too, but which one was put more effort and love into? In PUBG, you arrive in a map, your objective, survive In Hollow Knight, you arrive, you explore, discover, you fight, you train, you learn, and you cry. All of this is I kid you not, 15 bucks. This aint just some random indie game treasure This is an indie masterpiece and if it is to receive more attention... Its an instant classic

At first half oh it, I've noticed that sometimes notes for left and right hand almost mirror each other. I wonder, if that was made on purpose to reflect on the fact, that both Knights are technically brothers?
the real king was a ´wyrn´ and when he died he become ... ah... whatever are the NPC and saw the Radicance´s destruction and then create the container ( the enormus thing with three faces)... But that wasn´t enough and many tries later ( in the ´void´ you see the mistakes) and that... is our character. He died and become another... ¿Person? And radiance infested him. So in the battle with him we absorb the Radiance inside him ( killing him) if the Hollow Knight has the void heart and hornet is still alive we can defeat Radiance in the Kings mind Killing a god... tecnically... But if the Hollow Knight doesn´t have the void heart or Hornet died or we kill the king before enter on his mind Radiance and the Powerful Wyrm soul comsume the Hollow knight and all the citizes continue infested So responding your questin No they aren Brothers they are... No, I'm afraid you've got it wrong. Originally there was the Radiance, which was sort of like the ruler of the bugs. But when the White King was reincarnated from the Wyrm, he taught and led the bugs and eventually made a kingdom, rejecting the 'orange' of the Radiance. But as time passed the Radiance grew angry and infested the dreams and thoughts of the bugs(hence the orange eyes). The White King knew this, so he experimented and created thousands of 'vessels', such as yourself and the Hollow Knight. But he chose the Hollow Knight as the perfect vessel , deeming you and the others a failure. So the Hollow Knight sacrificed himself to seal the Radiance within him, and the three Dreamers acted as an additional seal. But due to the Hollow Knight not having the Void Soul (which you get when you let the void in you and crack open the kingsoul), he could not perfectly contain the Radiance. And as the ages went by, the bugs fell under the influence of the radiance making them into hostiles. And the White King left the realm (who knows why?) That is why you, his 'brother', eventually sacrifice yourself and seal the Radiance completely in the true ending.

To be honest, I was expecting a 4-hand composition for this (not that it doesn't still sound amazing). It's pretty incredible that you can keep the time length for the piano tutorial on the dot with the real OST. If I had to complain though, it was a bit slow but I guess there are certain limits to a piano. All in all, great job.
Yeah I was expecting I'd have to do a 4-hands arrangements as well :D But I'm glad it wasn't needed, and that the arrangement isn't overly difficult either. I try my best to keep the same tempo as in the original - I usually play both the arrangement and the original at together to check on that... but I can still make mistakes, so I'm curious of if you feel some part are too slow, or if it's the arrangement as a whole. Also - which may be related - there are always little tempo variations which I feel aren't worth transcribing (they're hard to notice, and are often at the discretion of the piano player). It's especially true for Hollow Knight OST as I'm pretty sure the composer recorded the parts himself. It's definitively a good thing though, that's part of what makes this OST so good ^_^

I absolutely love this song, made me fall for the character The Hollow Knight because their story is so heartbreaking. I remember fighting them and I was already sad because it looked like they were so tired from being chained up. Then they started stabbing themselves and I was shocked. SO tragic. Also, I love that the ascending and descending harmonies in the first half are perfectly visualized in this vid, that's one of my favorite things about this song!

Honestly that was such a meaningful moment. To see the final boss viciously impale himself to let out his true form. Just to see how bad the infection hit him. To make a vessel so close to being pure, end it's own life to become "stronger". It puts a new view on the infection and the power it holds.
The music starts off so intense kind of like the fight but it gets so somber towards the end. Reminds me of the first time I fight him expecting to be ripped a new one just to face the realization this man is tryin to kill himself
This theme is my favorite theme on piano, as it gives so much tension. This IS the final battle. There's no turning back. It's either win or lose. There's no middle ground. It's beautiful.

Man, i havent had a game make me go from cold and calculating dry humor about dark stuff, to straight up projectile crying until i read into the lore of this game, and when i saw him stab himself to lash out at the radiance. I wanna give the vessel a hug.
I like how the visual sheet music is kinda like the boss fight with the Brocken vessel being the green and the mc being the purple and how they clash together and then spread but I don’t know if it was into intentional
2:13 the way the song changes from epic boss music to, like, grieving funeral violin music is so weird, it’s like the song is saying that the Hollow Knight is already dead… if you’re playing without sound effects, that change of genre really hits hard

They're *still* trying to contain the infection.
It's as if they think the "Idea Instilled" that corrupted them and made them a weak vessel wasn't the King's fault, but their own. Like they have to sacrifice themselves to take the Radiance with them and save a kindom that doesn't exist anymore, to honour a father that never cared about them. Like they, above everything else, are the Hollow Knight, and if their death saves them the humilliation of not being *enough* , of not being able to do the very thing they were created to do, then so be it.
Bruh, they legit don't have emotions or will, like at all. Tho the Lil knight been tissed of having some sort of will but thats it
BTW when u say his father did care, well it is wrong. There are alot of moments that say how sad pale King and white lady were while doing this. I mean then mom locked her self up for that sole reason. And when u beat path of pain u see a moment Lil knight and king vibeing like crazy

Basically the hollow knight was not hollow because the king gave him a duty to save the world. He really wanted to save hollownest but just the idea of it made him not hollow.

@@sinaa9315 Well, my idea was that the ghost (thats what hornet and other call him) was born later. There was two black eggs, one from the hollow knight and one from ghost. I may be wrong on this but the hollow knight cared for his father and that care was the thing that ruins his duty.

My God this is one of the most dramatic final bosses that I've seen
oh lord the pain is so clear here and the way the music turns with it is incredible.. great way to invoke emotion and really make the player feel the story to their core. I was never much into this style of games but I stumbled upon it on, one of my favourite streamers doing a variety stream, the music was so good. I remember thinking I have to play this. even if only for the music fast forward a few months later and its done and I cant wait for Silk Song. This song above all really sold me on the game and the rendition used for path of pain just feels right

I was really disappointing with the difficulty of the final boss so I looked up the lore behind it and realized the point wasn’t supposed to be difficult but meaningful

At first half oh it, I've noticed that sometimes notes for left and right hand almost mirror each other. I wonder, if that was made on purpose to reflect on the fact, that both Knights are technically brothers?
the real king was a ´wyrn´ and when he died he become ... ah... whatever are the NPC and saw the Radicance´s destruction and then create the container ( the enormus thing with three faces)... But that wasn´t enough and many tries later ( in the ´void´ you see the mistakes) and that... is our character.
He died and become another... ¿Person? And radiance infested him. So in the battle with him we absorb the Radiance inside him ( killing him) if the Hollow Knight has the void heart and hornet is still alive we can defeat Radiance in the Kings mind Killing a god... tecnically... But if the Hollow Knight doesn´t have the void heart or Hornet died or we kill the king before enter on his mind Radiance and the Powerful Wyrm soul comsume the Hollow knight and all the citizes continue infested

No, I'm afraid you've got it wrong. Originally there was the Radiance, which was sort of like the ruler of the bugs. But when the White King was reincarnated from the Wyrm, he taught and led the bugs and eventually made a kingdom, rejecting the 'orange' of the Radiance. But as time passed the Radiance grew angry and infested the dreams and thoughts of the bugs(hence the orange eyes). The White King knew this, so he experimented and created thousands of 'vessels', such as yourself and the Hollow Knight. But he chose the Hollow Knight as the perfect vessel , deeming you and the others a failure. So the Hollow Knight sacrificed himself to seal the Radiance within him, and the three Dreamers acted as an additional seal. But due to the Hollow Knight not having the Void Soul (which you get when you let the void in you and crack open the kingsoul), he could not perfectly contain the Radiance. And as the ages went by, the bugs fell under the influence of the radiance making them into hostiles. And the White King left the realm (who knows why?) That is why you, his 'brother', eventually sacrifice yourself and seal the Radiance completely in the true ending.

My friend begged me to play this game for a long time before I finally agreed. How did he convince me? He fought the hollow knight and it was so devasting and beautiful and intruiging that I immediately started the game

To be honest, I was expecting a 4-hand composition for this (not that it doesn't still sound amazing). It's pretty incredible that you can keep the time length for the piano tutorial on the dot with the real OST. If I had to complain though, it was a bit slow but I guess there are certain limits to a piano. All in all, great job.
Yeah I was expecting I'd have to do a 4-hands arrangements as well :D But I'm glad it wasn't needed, and that the arrangement isn't overly difficult either.
I try my best to keep the same tempo as in the original - I usually play both the arrangement and the original at together to check on that... but I can still make mistakes, so I'm curious of if you feel some part are too slow, or if it's the arrangement as a whole.
Also - which may be related - there are always little tempo variations which I feel aren't worth transcribing (they're hard to notice, and are often at the discretion of the piano player). It's especially true for Hollow Knight OST as I'm pretty sure the composer recorded the parts himself. It's definitively a good thing though, that's part of what makes this OST so good ^_^

I absolutely love this song, made me fall for the character The Hollow Knight because their story is so heartbreaking. I remember fighting them and I was already sad because it looked like they were so tired from being chained up. Then they started stabbing themselves and I was shocked. SO tragic.
Also, I love that the ascending and descending harmonies in the first half are perfectly visualized in this vid, that's one of my favorite things about this song!

Honestly that was such a meaningful moment. To see the final boss viciously impale himself to let out his true form. Just to see how bad the infection hit him. To make a vessel so close to being pure, end it's own life to become "stronger". It puts a new view on the infection and the power it holds.
I don't know what it is about this that just makes it beautiful like a clash of two great warriors.

This theme is my favorite theme on piano, as it gives so much tension. This IS the final battle. There's no turning back. It's either win or lose. There's no middle ground. It's beautiful.

I like how the visual sheet music is kinda like the boss fight with the Brocken vessel being the green and the mc being the purple and how they clash together and then spread but I don’t know if it was into intentional

2:13 the way the song changes from epic boss music to, like, grieving funeral violin music is so weird, it’s like the song is saying that the Hollow Knight is already dead… if you’re playing without sound effects, that change of genre really hits hard
