  • If you're working on "good things" in your golf swings and you're not improving, then you have most likely neglected the most important thing for great a great golf swing. Master this first, then you can work on the other "good things" in your golf swing.

    Amazing drill I have been struggling the last week ( every shot is all over the place) I used this today on the range and within 3 balls I started hitting balls straight and far !!! Thank you 😊

    I’ve been spinning out a lot with poor ball contact. Took this drill to the range and crushed my irons. I honestly think this might be the best tip for an amateur golfer on the internet. I’ve tried the coin drill and towel drill but neither work as good as this.

    I love your teaching. Your shallowing video is plain and simple magic. You take the hardest thing about the swing---shallowing the club----and reduce it to three simple observations. And gave me a framework to shallow the swing once and for all. FINALLY. I am amazed at your wondrous gift and generosity as a fabulous teacher of this game we love. THANK YOU.

    Right I’ve watched hours, probably months worth of different TH-cam vids from loads of instructors but I have to say this fella is by far the most honest and useful at giving the best advice to the basic golfer like myself who has tried every trick in the book to improve my golf, and the latest cheesy yank instructors trying to reel u in to their “online improvement course’s/scams” with their 30min advert when alls they’re trying to do is milk the basic golfers when this fella tells u all u need to know for free…. He’s magic

    So glad I found this channel it might be the best golf channel on TH-cam. As a new golfer so often I find myself standing over the golf ball with 100 cues running in my mind about my swing which makes me play so much worse. Whenever I remember that the most important thing is contact I straighten myself out. I'm going to be practicing this drill on the range for a while. Thank you for this!!

    hi not sure if its been mentioned on previous comments buts some years ago Bobby Clampett did a book/system based on his research into ball turf impact, he found elite pro golfers such as yourself, low point was 3 to 4 inches in front of the ball !! and as that low point impact position moved towards the ball and eventually behind it, the handicap of the golfer increased, in fact even low single figure handicappers were often hitting behind the ball, cheers and thanks for the great drill

Point being, maybe not intentionally but a lot of golfers and especially older golfers like Hogan incorporated a lot of these same fundamentals that you're brilliantly demonstrating. Pure truth. When I would coach myself to “swing easy” my lower body always slowed down and my upper body sped up and contact suffered badly. A proper swing thought is “ commit the lower body by opening that lead hip first” as you described here. That has been a more successful swing thought. Thank you.

    Yes. For irons especially, aim point (lowest point on the arch) is ahead of the ball. BUT Don't forget about your core rotation. If you're too armsy, if if you're aiming ahead of the ball, you could easily ground out the club and hit fat because you're not rotating and getting your hips outta the way.

    There are 2 other reasons people hit behind the ball. Yes,weight shift is one of the most common ones. The other 2 is right arm early straighten, which a lot of teacher talks about. The 3rd is early break down of right wrist. If u weight shift, don’t straight right arm, if u unhinge all your right wrist you will still hit the ground before ball.

    I have nerve damage and can only use a baseball grip. The fact that my right hand is a tad lower than my left makes me feel my shoulder is a tad lower and a more open chest at address ..as a result I get to the ball and turf at the same time or ball only , no turf, in most shots. your insight would be greatly appreciated>

      @@jchowngolf yes totally agree J, again great video & good tips.
      Me & Ollie both play off 6 and live in Swansea, maybe we could come up your way for a round and a chat 😎🤟. I'll definitely DM when we set up an insta account. Really appreciate it 🙏

    Any reason why you shouldn’t play with the ball forward?

    Hi, i was doing this drill (amazing btw) and i was striking my irons so well, but when i pit the ball and club back too where it usually is im hitting it naff again! Any clue why? Thanks for another amazing video

      Awesome to hear you liked it! Just more time doing the drill is the solution to that, golf is a marathon not a race. Also imagining you’re still doing the drill will also help 👍🏼

      Same with fairway woods off the deck 👍🏼

    Could you achieve the same thing by moving the ball back in your stance and not shifting your weight? (I realize this isn't the optimal thing to do.)

    • @jchowngolf
      @jchowngolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could but you’ll constantly be presenting too low of a dynamic loft, which will make it hard to shoot better scores

    Shallowing without anything much else will get you trapped and then fat shots and/ or flipping with early extension become more likely.

      Absolutely. A good swing is a blend of movement patterns 👍🏼

    When I'm playing decently, I do this very well. When it doesn't work, trying to hit down causes me to shank??

    • @jchowngolf
      @jchowngolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hitting down is happening because of the shift. Never try to physically hit down via manipulation

    I believe that’s how Moe Norman set up to the ball

    How about driver? I can not hit that either.
