    Can't tell you how much I appreciate you making these videos and sharing your knowledge with everyone. They have gotten me through a lot of head scratching moments with my beetle. Thanks Darrin!

    I usally don't like long videos, but I got to rip into one of these this winter, so you just hit my favorite list. Thanks.

    I'm sure his motors run great but I can't get over some of his heavy handed tactics. Prying, banging, beating into submission and the like.

    I love your videos. It really makes me want to try a rebuild like that, I love torque wrenches and tolerances :) Some Questions:
    1) Do you sell motors, and are they guaranteed mosquito free?
    2) What combination of awl, oil and erl works best?
    3) Is it true that old volks cases are not supposed to be remachined, ie align-bored and thrust cut? Something about magnesium and Aluminum.
    4) Wouldn't it be nice if others besides you and Chris Vallone asked us how we were doing today? ;)

    Does banging hard on the piston pins cause damage to the crank since it is hooked to it? Wouldn't matter if you had the crank ground I suppose.

  • @DanTheManIOM
    @DanTheManIOM 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would you just rebuild this to be 1600 cc or would you go bigger to 1776 or 1800 ?? My connecting rod went through the case, so I will doing this tear down on a stuck motor I have in my driveway (not the blown up one, of course)...

    • @vwdarrin
      @vwdarrin  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it depends on your budget if you go bigger you will need more carburetion & exhaust to take advantage of the larger motor , a 1600 with a nice set of carburetors and a cam runs really sweet , what you spend on the machine work to go to a 1776 , you could probably end up buying a exhaust or carbs for a 1600 build

    Hey Darin, really surprised that someone like yourself who rebuilds engines all the time you wouldn't have a pulley puller? I don't think I would want an engine that you hammered on, try a little more finesse. You could probably save some money on unnecessary part changes as well. Thanks.
