Jokes and comedy were hit and miss, usually misses! That I only toned in ironically when they were being SERIOUS (as in FFX-1 serious) with the only comedy moments making me laugh being the GENIUE ones you would have seen in FFX-1 story then the "Forced light hearted to SUPER CRINGE" moments! Hell I never CARED to get the "True Ending" as I liked the themes of moving on after a loved ones death! As you said FF X-2 ONLY ruins FFX-1 story.....if you bring Tidus back to life! Reuniting Lenne ad Shuyin and helping him FINALLY make peace with her and his death's and making peace with and moving on from Tidus death feels MUCH more meaningful and a good way to tale end Yuna's character growth if you WANTED to make a "Part 2!" of 10 story! She did much good despite some of the goofiness along with settling the "issues" left behind by Seymour's and the Yu Yevon higher up's actions during 10-1. When Yuna was acting LESS out of character like a bimbo and acted more like "A girl TRYING to copy what she BELIEVED her deceased lover would do and act!" (Hell I took her ENTIRE attitude change in FFX-2 as "what she THOUGHT Tidus would do or say! Frankly it's a extension of the "Hahahahahaha" scene from FFX-1! Learning to express herself more! I mean it's said she spend the time between 1 and 2 mourning Tidus death) I will say this is a game I'm happy to just watch someone's MOVIE upload of it in the future after beating it once (As in they only show cutscenes and dialogue, no gameplay unless a cutscene is in it and ONLY that cutscene)
YES! FFXII needs an actual sequel with similar gameplay! Not that stagger bs they spam every FF game nowadays. I'd even take RW story remade in XII's style!
I guess music really makes a difference. I've played the Caligula effect on the switch. It looks much better in switch than on the vita. But I got threw it BECAUSE I liked j-pop.
As someone that played the switch version of Caligula effect. I remember that I encountered a few weird glitches as I played it. There was a in-game cutscene where the MC was interacting with one of the musicians I believe, and for whatever strange reason….half of the MC’s body was in the ground making him look super small compared to the musician….lol. Anyways, I got through the game because the OST is definitely a highlight imo considering the majority of the composers for the game was handled by various talented vocaloid composers.
The worst part about ff12 revenant wings is not the change in combat. It’s the fact that it’s more Vaan and them having characters that no one cared about and Ba'Gamnan apparently survived the sandsea.
Honestly played most of Persona 5 (Standard edition) but never got to finished it.. Probably will wait for the Royal Edition to go on sale and start all over again. A very long game indeed. For Strikers, maybe I'll get it if it goes on sale. FF12 (Original PS2) is another game I almost finished. Don't think I will try to finish it. FF X is and will always be one of my all time fav games. I could always replay it over and over and not get bored. Finished it a few times. With FFX-2 tho, I played it and finished it once only. I won't play it again haha.. Haha, for FF 13, just played and finished the 1st game.. Never bothered with the sequels. I never played the rest of the games mentioned.
The only 1 I disagree with is the final one. That sequel was great in my opinion. Yes, the combat is great but the music is what put it up there to me. The story wasn't terrible either. I beat that game twice and enjoyed it both times. Still listen to the soundtrack fairly regularly to this day. As for the honorable mention, it's a trilogy. Loved the direct sequel but the sequel to the sequel? Pass on that one 😂 Great vid Erick!
I agree that SMT4A was divisive and that its mechanics were improved over SMT4's, but I find it difficult to understand how some find the story in SMT4A was better than 4's narrative. I do agree that SMT4 didn't need a direct sequel.
I would add to Thales of symphonia: Dawn of the new world, was this sequel really necessary? It is so forgotten that it has not been re-released on current consoles and there are people who do not know that it exists. Final fantasy 7 and its multiple derivatives, from its film Qué si es canon (Advent children), to Si continuation of another genre (dirge of cerberus), through its prequels (before crisis, ever crisis, etc.). Crisis Core is the only notable one And it seems that square Enix wanted to do the same with FF13, but it didn't work for them and they changed the titles of these games with the failed nobula cystalis (FF versus 13, FF agito 13, etc.)
I played dawn of the new world right after I finished Symphonia back when I had my PS3. Words can't express how disappointed I was. If only I could get my precious time back spent on this trash
dawn really sucked not sure what Namco was thinking. Well at lease FF7 games tied to story, story Zack was good, even though action game was mess able get more back story for Vincent was cool
I remember most of these games. Didn't know Vahala Knights had a sequel. Caligula was one of my cousin's fav on his Vita. And seriously, FF 12 had the lamest protag. It looked more like he was just along for the ride, and nothing else. I thought at least he'd have a connection with the Princess, but nope. He's just... some guy, who had a brother that looked like the dead Prince. Shin Megami Tensei Apocalypse was a surprise in my book. Never played the original, but got that one out on a whim. The story took me for a wild ride, and the voice acting was superb. There was even multiple endings that was just wonderful on my part. I always chose the New God (Evil Ending) as the last one. And was not disappointed. FF 10 was perhaps my 2nd favorite in the FF series. And the sequel was... pretty good. Mostly because i liked the costume transformation. Never did finish it though since i had to move.
Final Fantasy X is a great game and somehow Square can't seem to figure out how to make a sequel that doesn't completely disrespect the original source material and alienate their fanbase at the same time.Whether it be the bullshit of FFX-2 or the wtf is this plot of X-3. Maybe instead of making a sequel, they should have made a prequel like they did with FFVII and left FFX alone. You konw...it's okay to make a cliffhanger ending like we saw in FFX where Tidus wakes up and swims to the surface...and just end it right there. Let the audience have their own sort of "Make up your own ending" style of ending.
Seriously a prequel would have been much better than anything we got. Give us a story set back in the war between Bevelle and Zanarkand 1000 years ago that was only hinted in numerous snippets of backstory. Origins of the Guado, Al Bhed, and Ronso. Yu Yevon when he was a good guy instead of a mindless floating parasite-thing. His daughter Yunalesca before her hope in humanity faded. Her husband Zaon before he... died (for someone without any lines they gave him some badass-looking golden armor). Spira remains the only FF world I have always wanted to see more details of, and FFX-2 was *not* that.
This is why I am so insanely happy ff9 never got it’s sequel ( yes ff9 sequel was insanely close to happening.) .. after hearing ffX 3s plot Id bet they make Zidane a drunk who cheated on Garnett or something. … man I couldn’t believe what they were trying to do with that story….
FFX-2 battle system is one of the best in the entire JRPG genre. Here i said it. The versatility of the class system and being able to change and switch on the fly during combat felt great. The story was weak but hey, don't forget that most of the game is spent fighting monsters...
FFX-2 was actually fun and I loved the combat. It was Square at its best trying new things. And you are wrong, as usual. The best thing about FFX was seeing Yuna actually trying to cope and be happy for once, free of all her suicid3 duty as a Summoner. Shame you can't see past your hate. The travesty is not FFX-2, it's the FFX-2 audio drama...which never existed...oh and let's not go into FF13 sequels which you suspiciously left out, because YOU enjoyed it...ironic.
9:54 I would say a bad game does deserve a sequel or at least needs one for developers to get a second chance at fixing issues as opposed to a good game
13:48 I kind of disagree with that a little bit, saying that it should be its own story kind of misses the point of its messaging where it says screw chaos and order and make your own decisions that you believe it is right for the world
16:19 oh boy that’s a hot take right there. Also the battle system is great because it’s literally just Final Fantasy 10 but more also also I think the stories actually pretty good. It’s a bit all over the place but it’s also just more of an epilogue. In my full opinion, showing the results of the people and giving Yuna a much more confident personality. I will say that the dance stuff is very cringe
FF13 trilogy was actually really good I loved the 2 sequels I’m still confused with the ending with (spoiler) Lightning chilling in a French village? Quite the journey indeed
I would argue that Caligula effect gets more hate than it deserves. I played on switch, So i cant speak for the vita version. however i did fall off 40 hours in and havent gone back. but i intend too whenever the urge to play the sequel comes up. Which i bought day one. and have had collecting dust since. Lol. One day. Still need to work my with through Legend of Heroes games. I only finished trails of cold steel 1
No ff ever needed a sequel! Thank god ff9 never got a sequel! They’d ruin the perfect end … ffX never ended tragically, it’s shown that tidus is alive at the very end… yeah ffx-2 didn’t need to exist but the gameplay of a videoGAME is pretty Dam good ( the bosses n super bosses are insane in 10-2 international) music and graphics etc were top tier .. it’s just a 7/10 reused assest type game that shouldn’t be a final fantasy
they tried to make Blue Dragon a thing, Xbox, Microsoft needed more JRPGs sadly kept losing to Sony, now tides are changing seems JRPG's going show up more on xbox/windows. Since Sony isn't doing hot of late with PS5 going see more titles going PC and Xbox in the future.
Persona 5 Strikers is better than Persona 5 Tactics, heck it is the only good Persona 5 game since it does not have most of the stupid day stuff. I agree with your two FFX and FFXIII, no one needed their sequels. Battle system could have been in a new IP.
I thought FF12 (not that sequal of it) was the best FF after FF7. That one game Valhalla Knights or so didnt look too bad from the scenes you've selected. But the gameplay must have been bad if you hate it that much. But I remember FFX being a good game (not a big fan though) but FFX-2 being a wtf-girl-version of it that was annoying.
I used to think that FFX-2 was an OK game, but I experienced the worst chance for a "Perfect Ending" I have ever seen in any video game. How do I get a 100% score when I followed the guide to the letter, and the game gave me only 99.9% mission score? The official guide even shows where the game is supposed to give you the missing 1/10th of a point, but the game never gave me that 1/10th of a point, so after six tries and again getting only 1/10th a point from the perfect mission score, I felt like throwing the game at the wall. I will never play that pos game again. I had to watch the perfect ending online. >:( The sequel to FFX-12 look like shht, so I'm not even going to buy a new console and the game to play it. No thank you.
it would been much better if REX didnt die and instead trained and get stronger in the prison, so he could be the main instead of VAN, but man even BASH would have been better as main in ff12😂
, X2 is really good. The exploration , the story , the combat, the music, the job system, the characters. Lots of good things. Stop being such a trash baby Eric.
Im gonna take the final fantasy x (not x-2)hot takes even further. The voice acting was so bad throughout it made cutscenes bad to the point it ruined any good it had going. The side content went from super lengthy grinds to pure madness bullcrap for endgame gear and fleshing out the sphere grid not to mention damn near plotting the entire stat plan out from the start..
I'm sorry Erick but I have to disagree with FF XIII sequel, I really liked the gameplay from XIII-1/2 and story could be better but doesn't dissapoint FF XIII LR was trash btw
I'm surprised ff13 didn't get the number 1. 13 got horrible initial reception. Then, not one but TWO sequels. Also my personal number one is the Final Fantasy 4 sequel "The after years". The most garbage thing I've ever tried to get into.
Why do people still drag ff10-2 through the mud. It was unnecessary and a mess but at least it was enjoyable to play. Most RPGs got crap stories. Only good story rpg is berseria and most of the rest of the RPGs are convoluted messes we accept like ff7
Yes, Crymachina has its weird balancing but at least it's not as stupid as Tales of Arise or Scarlet Nexus. And why are you complaining about the Yuri in it but not in Crystar? And please give the PS4/5 version of Caligula 1 a chance. It runs much better than the Vita version. And don't "praise" the sequel for its watered down combat. Mastering the first game's combat is really satisfying.
That's a great point you've bought up with Crystar. And I genuinely think he either ignored it entirely, or didn't finish the game. Honestly, with how many times he criticizes the existence of a homosexual relationship, I'm at the point where I believe that he's genuinely homophobic. At first I thought there was a genuine criticism about it that he just conveniently never elaborates on. But if yuri ruined the story for him entirely, it sort of just sealed the deal for me.
Yep sadly I'm almost sure he's homophobic, I don't care about any of those topics about the "agenda" but if he's only wants to spread hate I prefer to look for another channel
@@BrandonGarcía-v6b To add on, he tries to play this neutral ground by saying, "If this was a straight couple, I'd say the same thing" with his full review of Crymachina. When in reality, that's just an outright lie.
@@BrandonGarcía-v6bI knew him a bit more outside of this channel and yes, he kinda is And even more since the whole drama with a certain gay youtuber I can tell you, this is a first video i have watched in a while and immediately "yuri garbage" and "agendas" lol He really likes his edgy, dark and...mature stories so anything cute, adorable or with a hint of LGBTQ in it is bad
@AkumaItachi That honestly makes a lot of sense. And that was some ridiculous drama that could've been avoided easily too. I absolutely despise this anti-woke/homophobic angle he took with his channel. At first, I brushed it off. As mentioned before in his full review of the game, he mentioned that he'd treat it the same way if it was a "straight couple." I thought it was reasonable for a couple of seconds before I thought back to the many other games he played. And I immediately call bs when he enjoyed games like the Trails series. Where Joshua attracted girls nearly every second of the way in the beginning of the game. This then began to become more suspicious whenever he spoke about, "modern day political agendas" with Mato, and it just turns out that there was a lesbian in the game. Then this just proceeded on and on. To the point to where it's just tiring. Despite him preaching about not wanting modern day political stuff in games, he surely loves to shove his own beliefs in his own videos that gets tiring to watch. After watching this video, I already unsubbed.
I completely agree with the 10 games especially FFX-2. People are saying how the story isn't that bad and the gameplay is awesome...no pls don't try to make it look good. I played FFX just last year (no nostalgia googles) and still disliked X-2. It destroyed the story and the gameplay was alright at best for me (I don't even want to start ranting about the requirements for the true ending). And to the honorable mention: imo FFXIII needed a sequel when it comes to it's story atleast. It was unfinished and open ended in the first game. Now, did it need a trilogy to tell that story? That's what I'm not so sure about xD still love the trilogy though :P
God of War: Ragnorök, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Horizon: Forbidden West. Even big AAA game sequels seem to get worse reception with less impact. The decision to make a sequel with any form of entertainment is not usually because of artistic vision, but to fuel funds for whatever industry it’s in. There are exceptions but I wish people would think twice before buying and supporting a sequel. To genuinely ask themselves if it is necessary
people were upset that Square went around and changed OG story Vaan wasn't suppose to be MC it was suppose to be Baltheir, just people in charge said that was bad idea better to have younger person be main character. I didn't hate Vaan i think he was fine, game still being underrated was solid entry to series, i enjoyed 12 far more then 13 some how got so many sequels
vaan sucks big time as a mc.. Balthier would be perfect and vaan as a side be better 13 got so many sequels because it was planned before hand and as they released 13 -1 production on 13-2 was already underway and irreversible cost wise.. so we were getting 3 games unless sales were crazy bad
FF12 was the clear continuation of Square Enix's regression, given that most of the characters didn't grow, their motivations and goals didn't matter. The story was exceedingly simple - betrayal blah blah. I did enjoy the combat alot.

So I'm guessing you hated FF Tactics Advance 2 since Vaan and Penalo are also in that one (It takes place in FF12 Ivalice) LOL
10-2 I'm divided on and it's largely the story!
Are you really dissing Shadow tower abyss? It was awesome
RPG time with Erick
The only 1 I disagree with is the final one. That sequel was great in my opinion. Yes, the combat is great but the music is what put it up there to me. The story wasn't terrible either. I beat that game twice and enjoyed it both times. Still listen to the soundtrack fairly regularly to this day. As for the honorable mention, it's a trilogy. Loved the direct sequel but the sequel to the sequel? Pass on that one 😂 Great vid Erick!
The best thing about Crymachina is the masterpiece soundtrack.
XC2-3 are the best thing that happened to the Xeno series
Crisis Core is the only notable one
And it seems that square Enix wanted to do the same with FF13, but it didn't work for them and they changed the titles of these games with the failed nobula cystalis (FF versus 13, FF agito 13, etc.)
From Software did have another game they made. It was Armored Core and it was milked hard through ps1 to ps3, that was until Souls. Lol
Somebody woke up sour today.
Eldar Saga on the Wii is highly underrated in my view: its guild quests are the most poignant I've ever experienced.
Just gonna say ff10-2 is a really fun game to play with that said yes it was unnecesary. Buen video.
I really enjoyed Caligula Effect 2. Don't care for J-Pop, but could tune it out easily. Especially with how the battles actually went.
4:51 yeah your kinda right i just don't know why they didn't make a smt subserie or persona subserie with warrior game play
Its money they don't care what we think 😂
You missed the person 5 the phantom X mobile game sequel
probably because it only came out in Japan, hasn't been released global yet
@@kyotheman69 true
FF12 I like the atmosphere, the voice acting is perfect, plus the music, I feel like in series 12 Square Enix made it with love.
FFX-2 battle system is one of the best in the entire JRPG genre. Here i said it. The versatility of the class system and being able to change and switch on the fly during combat felt great. The story was weak but hey, don't forget that most of the game is spent fighting monsters...
I loved that ending. 😂
Caliggula somehow become horrible after first dungeon - music dissaper, fights over too complicated
Eric knows I didn’t need more Persona 5. I still bought Strikers though lol… I also liked x-2 more when I played it. 😂
Tidus: he's the angry "olny in Japan" jrpg video game nerrrrddd!!!
Honorable mentions:
Fairy Fencer F
Omega Quintet
Dark Rose Valkyrie
omega quintet and dark rose valkyrie never got sequels.
@@alexjones50 Don't forget Scarlet Nexus & Code Vein never get sequel and God Eater never get season 4
@@alexjones50 Don't forget Time and Eternity this game don't have a sequels too.
I agree with Final Fantasy X NOT needing a sequel. And as a sucker for happy endings, that's saying a lot.
Blue Dragon on the DS sounded always nice but since they were sequels to a XBox Game a console i didn't had i didn't buy them xD
FF13 trilogy was actually really good
I loved the 2 sequels
I’m still confused with the ending with (spoiler) Lightning chilling in a French village? Quite the journey indeed
the whole story was just total bad... especially the first
FFX-2. Spira is a better place with Leblanc in it. Nooj and Baralai suck thoo.
Battle theme of FF10 sounds comical now
I’m here for the slander 😂
I found FF12 Revenant Wings pretty fun actually
FF7 never needed a sequel or a prequel, I feel FF7R was just a cash in. The same can be said for FFX.
Crisis core was fun as hell.
@velveteenv76 I loved all the games something about 7 that just lets it slide😂
Indeed FF7R was bad, but FFX3 will be really bad if it happens 🤔
Well atleast ff7 some sequels were really good like crisis core
@@Mangomeshff7r is incredibly good.
Virtual Hydlide wasn't sequel it was remake, they did make actual sequel was called super hydlide it wasn't bad, it was decent
Given your frequent complaints about politics and pronouns I am curious to hear what you think about Starsector's plot
mmm... now I want cake ^.^
Damn dude, hating on ff12 revenant wings??? It's an amazing game.
Interesting video I like the idea
they tried to make Blue Dragon a thing, Xbox, Microsoft needed more JRPGs sadly kept losing to Sony, now tides are changing seems JRPG's going show up more on xbox/windows.
Not going to talk about the OTHER Persona 5 sequel?
Revenant wings is actually decent. I mean, DS decent which isnt too much.
5:56 😮 no way they got this
After ff x took away all my tears it deserves a sequel although ff x-2 is kinda bad
FF13 was due being mentioned. FF13-2 got so much worse after 13...convoluted unnecessary time travel s* plus Pokémons to capture 😂 Sad sad sequel.
That last clip of ff10.
, X2 is really good. The exploration , the story , the combat, the music, the job system, the characters. Lots of good things.
Stop being such a trash baby Eric.
Not MATURE enough, need less idols and more edgelords
Pretty much
Im gonna take the final fantasy x (not x-2)hot takes even further. The voice acting was so bad throughout it made cutscenes bad to the point it ruined any good it had going. The side content went from super lengthy grinds to pure madness bullcrap for endgame gear and fleshing out the sphere grid not to mention damn near plotting the entire stat plan out from the start..
I'm sorry Erick but I have to disagree with FF XIII sequel, I really liked the gameplay from XIII-1/2 and story could be better but doesn't dissapoint
FF XIII LR was trash btw
I'm surprised ff13 didn't get the number 1. 13 got horrible initial reception. Then, not one but TWO sequels. Also my personal number one is the Final Fantasy 4 sequel "The after years". The most garbage thing I've ever tried to get into.
I tried to play FFXII - Revenant Wings many times... I could not get into it. It felt like a cheap FF Tactics wannabe.
Lies! There is no such thing as too much Persona 5.
Big cringe. Ppl like you are why we'll never get persona 6
I liked revenamt wings
Caligula effect was a good game. 😢
woah! what we need is a new fantasy game with battle like eternal sonata but story not like this the story was meh
@@BrandonGarcía-v6bI knew him a bit more outside of this channel and yes, he kinda is
And even more since the whole drama with a certain gay youtuber
I can tell you, this is a first video i have watched in a while and immediately "yuri garbage" and "agendas" lol
He really likes his edgy, dark and...mature stories so anything cute, adorable or with a hint of LGBTQ in it is bad
After watching this video, I already unsubbed.
id put also from SMT series Soul Hackers 2 dear lord why does this game exist? Original Spin off of Spin off was great, wtf is this shit?
both smt4 good though
Lunar 1
Thousand Arms
Thousand Arms had a sequel??
Fairy Fencer Refrain Chord is god awful
X2 is great. From the story to the characters and exploration to the combat and job system and the music .
Can you explain what exactly destroyed the story in ffX2?
ff 12 was awful .
Respect to King's Field!
Kweh❤
Eu queria um Musou de Final Fantasy :(
God of War: Ragnorök, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Horizon: Forbidden West.
I mean I wouldn't said GoW Ragnarok is unnecessary
Ragnarök is really good. And a very needed sequel.
Vaan is an awesome character, and an even better protagonist. Fight me, noodley.
people were upset that Square went around and changed OG story Vaan wasn't suppose to be MC it was suppose to be Baltheir, just people in charge said that was bad idea better to have younger person be main character. I didn't hate Vaan i think he was fine, game still being underrated was solid entry to series, i enjoyed 12 far more then 13 some how got so many sequels
vaan sucks big time as a mc.. Balthier would be perfect and vaan as a side be better
13 got so many sequels because it was planned before hand and as they released 13 -1 production on 13-2 was already underway and irreversible cost wise.. so we were getting 3 games unless sales were crazy bad
@@kyotheman69when did this urban legend start? There is no proof that Balthier was originally the mc, probably born from coping
FF12 was the clear continuation of Square Enix's regression, given that most of the characters didn't grow, their motivations and goals didn't matter. The story was exceedingly simple - betrayal blah blah. I did enjoy the combat alot.
#11: Final fantasy IV: after years!
Nice Video, it was really cool
Final fantasy 10 is garbage and 10 2 is great garbage
